Title: Show off/talk about your avatar here.
Post by: Glissant on Fri, 18 January 2013, 06:02:38: I know a lot of people like their avatars to be representative of some facet of their online/offline persona, so I thought we might have a place to shoot the sh*t about them.

My avatar was drawn by the wife, and edited by me. I added a picture of my cherry ds set and a geekhack modifier keycap in the background to add some spice to the thing.
It's kind of tiny because of the size restrictions, but I think it came out pretty nice. My avatar character leaning on the modifier key was intentional, but not sure if it shows up too well unless you know what to look for.

What do you guys think? Any feedback?

I used to use avatars that I made from episodes of Bleach. I primarily enjoyed Ichigo's scenes where he was kicking total butt. It sort of got me pumped when thinking of those scenes.

These days I have avatars that are either made by my wife or things that reflect what I am interested in/thinking about.

Never put much into avatars because I don't really know what I really want as one, so I usually just go with whatever.

She does a lot of really cute noseless girl stuff (Samples below) and I actually have my avatar tattooed on my upper left arm. It's obviously not as boxy looking and has no black outlining, making it quite a bit softer. People often think its painted or fake, due to its brightness and lack of black outlining lol.

Edit: Okay apparently her newer stuff includes the nose lol

I was going through a rough patch, and became quite self deprecating and a friend was thoroughly trying to debunk everything I was saying. I bluntly retorted that if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, tastes like a duck, sheds water like a duck, etcetera (I went on quite at length) then it must be a duck. "You are not a duck."

And I haven't been ever since.

Too many people on broadcast all the time and it reminds me (most of the time) not to speak unless I have something worthwhile to say.

Deaf-mutes and many other people with communication impacting disabilities have to make much more effort to communicate and I've found that when people broadcast less, it is usually more worth listening to. I like the irony to the situation.

Back in 2007, when I was first on the internet, I got really interested in making artistic fractals in a program called "apophysis". I made this in about 5 minutes to demonstrate to a friend how easy it is to make something that look good. I liked it a lot, so I decided to make an avatar of it. It's my avatar everywhere, I use it as my phone background, a B/W version is on my e-reader. I'm trying to figure out how to get it added to my Keurig screen, but that's a long shot.

Previously my avatar had been just a black/grey/red stylized "Dork Vader" that I made in MSpaint.

Sadly, I lost the original file (and all the files), so I can't render it any more, or any differently. I'm stuck with the 1600*1200 that I made originally.

I also try and keep my avy the same for as long as I can becasue IMO when your browsing posts on forums the images more than the names are what you assossiate people with, kinda like there 'face'... and it pisses me off like wild-fire when people change there avy...

So with that nosensical logic I've used a bunch of diffrent images but usually settled on one and then kept that for all the forums I'm a member of... this is my old avy that I used on everything;

But after those forums died (removed factions etc) I began to branch out looking for a new communites etc and began posting on here and other forums and felt like I needed to update and change my avy a little as it was really old (to me) and it becasue I'd moved about so much I felt like it needed updating... which is when I discovered on tumblr MaxCapacity a 'glitch' artist that does alot of work with 8-bit stuff but also messing with old VHS tapes and images like that, he created the image I'm currentally using.

I just prefer it becasue its alot more colourfull than my pervious avy and it's kinda a new art style (least to me) that sits better with the music and art that I like, here is the full image;

Yep. GITS SAC definitely by far the best anime ever. I only have DVD but have like 3 copies. Bizarrely in 2nd Gig the region 2 title music was diff to region 1 and only some regions subtitled the lyrics on season 1 - never did figure out what language that was though!

While I typically do hate animated gifs, the size is small enough it doesn't take forever to load and it's not really distracting from what I've seen, if anyone feels it is distracting i can just go to a still version.

It is a symbol that I made MANY years ago (except that the avatar version is missing the infinity symbol underneath. With how small avatars are often limited to I figured it would be best to just chop that off.) I still remember when 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' came out... The symbol for the deathly hallows was very similar... I had to get more orange juice, fill cup, find straw, cut out the Star of David (took like 20 minutes) and then paste it on. Finally, I had my mom hold a napkin as a backdrop to make the flash reflect back and look better. So... it was like a half an hour project :P

If you look closely and read some, but not all of the legends, it says, more or less: "Command 1: Help, Play"

Including the sub-legends, there is Help/Hex and Play/Test which makes it even more cryptic and complex.

On several occasions I have temporarily changed it, but I suppose I have established an image that I need to continue.

My first novelty cap was an awesome face, and since this brought me to GH I made my last avatar a smiley face made from hundreds of key caps by a local artist whom I'm friends with.
