Okay, I confirmed that I will do a group buy for Orion.

I'll set up a group buy thread soon..

If there are enough orders for a specific location and people want a proxy, please find one and let me know the details..

Hooray!

Some info....

- Interest check for Viper & Eagle will last until 3/10.   He needs at least 100 combined units before proceeding with the groupbuy.
- IC stands at about ~50 units with 5 days to go -- not looking very good :(
- Someone asked Duck about its compatibility with other 60% PCBs.  He's not sure because he doesn't own any other 60%.
- Kit includes: Aluminum case (1 pc design, probably means it's a tray) + Stainless Plate + PCB (SMD comp pre-soldered) + bolts
- Fully programmable.  I believe it supports full LED as well.
- Price of 200,000 won is before VAT.  Final price will likely be about 10% more.

Why would they need 100?
Isn't that a bit unreasonable?

If this does end up being $187 plus shipping etc, it's going to be very hard to turn down.

^ I second this ^

^ I second this too. Duck Eagle even cheaper than a single premium version FMJ case? Wow.

As far as I can tell from the picture, Eagle is pretty much just a 60% version of lightsaver 96, and I have not seen anyone complaining about lightsaver's build quality. But, of course Eagle is not as good as FMJ case material wise. (EDIT: and anodization wise as well. Just to be clear.)

IINM, duck's alu case is made of 6061 material and FMJ's is 7075 (premium)
but i'm not a material expert...what's the difference between this 2 anyway?

well the build-quality depends on many factors and the alu may not the problem, a lot of housing out there using 6061 and it's still good, and at that price I don't expect to get a 7075 case too (except the one from Ali), but  the anod, I have some friends comfirmed the Duckmini2's anod surface is not so good, and joneslee also tell that the pcb coating on Buttefly got crack when he do the solder works

but dont get me wrong, I don't mean to talk bad or sth like that, just some thought and that Viper, its price, is one damn sexy case I want

I assume that the PCB fabrication for Butterfly was done in the same place as for the LightSaver, and I have not noticed ANY issues with cracking or anything of the sort when soldering my Lightsaver.  It went perfectly and was very easy to solder, and I have no complaints about PCB quality whatsoever.

The anodizing quality--in general--that people are talking about--I think there's some confusion about surface preparation/finish BEFORE anodizing is done with actual anodizing.  Actual anodizing builds a uniform porous layer over time that is then infused with dye (optional) and sealed.  Any roughness or surface texture difference is a result of surface polishing before anodizing.  Uneven anodizing would be either of these two things: something blocking parts of the anodizing surface in the acid bath (unlikely, if suspended properly) or uneven coloration from lack of dye bath agitation during the dying process.  I'm guessing the issues were more with the surface preparation before anodizing.  Maybe some unevenness around the USB socket hole through which the case may have been suspended for anodizing / dying.

Granted my LightSaver has no dye and is clear-anodized, I can't comment on even tint, but from photographs of the red version ,it looked even.  The finish on my LightSaver is very neat and smooth, without any parts looking patchy or poorly finished to stand out.

The reason I asked is that the PCB from the Duck Mini v2 fits in a poker case just fine. It has the same mounting points as the Poker X (e.g. no center mount).

Has there been any images or schematics of the PCB, because I haven't seen any.

Custom keyboards generally are DYI unless they have an add-on option that states you can buy the assembly service. So in this case, it's ~$220 (not including tax/ems shipping) for the DYI kit, without switches, LEDs, and stabs
