I see :))
I read your post on DT. Did you spare 1800 pcb? (Of course I 'm interested ANSI).

If you want a PCB that is essentially broken and with only switch bottoms..sure. But shipping costs would be pretty high.

This was a HAD 1800, now it's a unicorn, my wife wanted a happy keyboard so I made this for her, I made her happy because she is the best wife a man can wish for :)
The caps are a mix of almost everything, JTK Purple for alphas, Hyperfuse for Numpad, GMK Purple for ISO Enter, CYMW mods and the Rustler because she deserves only the best. The switches are the original MX Blacks, she loves to type on them.

I am ready to join soon this gentlemen club of 1800 owners, but have to attach an USB cable to the keyboard - and need an hole in the case therefor. Or should I go with PS/2 and an original untouched cable?

If you use the Dolch case, you can use USB without visible holes :)

Unfortunately with this G81-1800 case there is not much place :(

Yes, but a workaround, thanks to an idea from suicidal_orange I soldered a bridge to the next empty ENTER place on the PCB:

Here is my entry for this noble 1800 owners club. It is a new G81 case, with a Leeku MX 1800 PCB (v3), unlubed and unstickered MX Reds (but with 55g SPRiT springs), and a mixture of ANSI and ISO German caps. Unfortunately the ANSI set I bought a while ago from Taobao were in a weird profile, and so I mixed the sets. Also i have to re-solder the right ALT switch, it is askew!

I will make one later, basically I just had to make a cutout for the USB plug. A sharp knive is enough for cutting the case.

Regarding the LED I used one I got from SPRiT (I think he added a RGB set to every order I made), and it glows red now.

Beautiful Madhias, that looks amazing. Soo classy!  ;D

I'm planning out a Leeku 1800 build right now, and I was wondering if anyone here could tell me if the original PS/2 cables work alright via USB with a converter? I prefer the look of the OG coiled PS/2 cables, but I'd still like some USB action.  :))

Boards:

Now, that would be something! I would also like to know this. Double win if that is the case, no need to cut the case _and_ original coiled cable... Yummy!

Yeah, those were my thoughts too. I don't really want to cut the case, so I'll deal with PS/2 if I have to. The cable is sexy enough to make up for it. PS/2 is inconvenient for board swapping though..

I also thought of using PS/2, but as you said board swapping and using it all the time somewhere else makes it so much easier to have USB directly available! I would say with a correct adapter it will work to use the PS/2 mode and cable. I have still the original cable, with original packaging and all, so maybe one time I will change it.

Yes, I had to cut the case, but a sharp knive was enough to do this. It is not that exact, I like it, it could be better though, but it is on the back of the case... I will post a picture later. Now my wife has taken the camera! Arrgh.

Nice touch with the LEDs :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
