Very excited for this. Great first custom for people who are looking to try different angles and still have a solid constructionHow many different versions did you buy? :P
I feel like Im being super thick here but where is the link to join the gb?
I feel like I wont be able to resist being in for both :0
have anybody got a confirmation of their submitted order form through email?I did not get a confirmation email.

I see that each plate choice comes with an SKB60 so please ignore this post

It's a shame the shipping to US is so expensive - at this rate, I'll only be able to get in at 100 MOQ. How often can we expect updates on MOQ?

Perhaps a proxy or two will do the trick to save on some shipping fee for US buyers?
But the question is who can be a reliable proxy and is also willing to go through the trouble.

I'm actually painfully ignorant on what it takes to be a regional proxy. Basically a verified local point of contact to receive the bulk shipment (lower rate from DE to US) and then coordinate individual shipping within CONUS?

yes, shipping to the US isn't cheap. also the euro to dollar exchange rate has changed quite dramatically over the last year or so. before that it would have been a steal for US buyers. at the moment UK buyers are in a really nice position, shipping is not that expensive and the exchange rate is in their favor.
btw we are now at just over 50 orders

Maybe for the US a well-known company, such something like TheKeyCompany, could be used as proxy? An established "store" or a well-known member could do it, especially if they have before.

Will have to see if any of the US based vendors end up getting in on the GB themselves personally, and see if we can bait/lure them into being a proxy. Isn't Donutcat a 75% lover? How do you summon people on GH (I originate from rmk so not brushed up on forum tricks).
Would you entertain the idea of a US proxy if there are enough orders?
Also, do the MOQs given include all layouts/sizes or is that MOQ per size/layout?
Glad this is getting a lot of traction so quickly!
50 orders already. Nice! So, in essence, each layout/variation would require 10 orders to get any cases produced at all?
At this rate do you see the GB closing and invoicing beginning at the estimated time of 2018-04-26?

I think he's still planning to do an official reddit post with new pictures to make it count before it goes down the reddit drain :P
Maybe more people can jump on or eat the shipping once it reaches price breaks.
EU <> US is always super expensive unfortunately, but to be fair that's pretty much common for shipping keyboard size/weight parts anywhere around the globe.
@Zuology, that's the planend date. But it seems like there's some wiggle room.
I created some unofficial posts to link back to this official thread to spread the word over on rmk & mechmarket. There's been a fair amount of response and people saying they've bought in. FWIW I let PlastikSchnittstelle about the unofficial posts and he is ok with them until he puts together the full board presentation. I really want to see this GB succeed and more people is more orders and less cost for a great product that is different from the more traditional customs out of asia. I think the BYO-PCB thing is great, the adjustability is unique, and industrial look is uncommon.
oh and also, over at DT someone asked for an ortho plate (https://deskthority.net/post408275.html#p408275).
please take a look if you are interested. might happen.
also regarding the swap-sockets. you can always get shorter standoffs for my SKB case. now the plate is hold by 5mm standoffs wich makes the caps sink in by 2mm. you can just use 4mm standoffs instead or even 3mm and you would certainly have no trouble with swap-socket-PCBs at any angle.
Ortho plate would be pretty straightforward to design and get cut in addition to existing layouts, I presume?
$50 shipping to the US is pretty much average or even below average for keyboard coming from an independently run international group buy.
What about shipping cost if ordering 2 to the US? Depending on how that works out, I might be in for 2 - one YAS and one standard.

OK great, so ordering 2 means about 40 eur total, 20 eur each.
without tracking, 8eur each, 16eur total.
on DHL website, it's 37Eur to US. Is that correct? Or is it the flat 40?

I'm here only for SKB75RE, and yes, it's because many cases don't fit properly.
Maybe you can put this option to the form so we can see whether this option passes the MOQ or not ;D
Also, out of all the layouts, the standard DZ60 layout isnt shown. Which plate would be correct for the normal DZ60 layout?
1.25-1.25-1.25-6.25-1.25-1.25-1.25-1.25
It looks like plate A says the above layout would fit the GH60 PCB, but no mention of banana split or DZ60 with that layout.
See the standard bottom row here:

Does that mean we can just swap out the standoffs if we want to individually customize our setups with lower/higher mount with minimal effort (pending clearance from bottom of case)?

I already have to manage DT and GH. I'd be very thankful if any of you adds to the post on reddit that Zuology started (or the other two subreddits), until I start an "official" GB post there.
To accommodate the extra space needed for the o-rings, I would potentially need shorter standoffs. Anyone tried something like this out before?

would you just need longer screws rather then shorter standoffs?

If I wanted to keep same standoffs, plus the extra length needed for o-rings, then yes. However, this would change how deep the plate sits (switches/caps more recessed). I would get a shorter standoff to compensate for o-rings added length, and maintain original plate/switch depth.
Nice prototype, is there any chance you could record a typing test? I'm curious how the different case design would affect vibration/sound profile.

absolutely! you will get the typing test video as promised. wanted to make the third build first in order to be able to compare mx-silent-blacks against normal mx-blacks. will do it tomorrow or over the weekend.
cause of the third build I didn't had the time to do the ortho-update. that means new renderings, as well, will also happen over the weekend.
AND: we are at exactly 60 orders at the moment.

second, thanks to Zuology for helping with the discussion and the posting at reddit.
now the idea with the o-rings. I had thought about this as well but was hesitating to advertise this as optional dampening. I just wasn't sure if it works well. would be really interesting to see if it works well. like zuology mentioned, you would need a shorted standoff (like 4mm instead of the included 5mm) to fit the o-ring in between.

Any possibility of getting a bare, unanodized case?
Oh, bad news about those typing videos, he must have double tapped the recording button at some point and the phone was mounted at the lamp so you couldn't really see what's going on... :D
I guess he'll have to do it himself after all.

Just saw on Top Clack that KingNestea said he recorded a typing test for PlastikSchnittstelle - guess a bunch of the keyboard elite were hanging out in Germany drinking :D
They also shouted out the SKBxx GB, Wodan said it looks really good in person.

The case would be very nice for my custom work-in-progress board.
Do you plan to provide plates for plate-mounted stabilizers and
hand-wired/pcb-less builds?
If not, is the case (without the plate of course) compatible with
with plate-mounted stabilizers and pcb-less builds?
After a closer look at the images: is the plate attached to the top
of the case? This would make the case already pcb-less plate compatible,
with the plate being the only missing thing...
This issue could be resolved by a GH60/Pock3r adapter. Since you have extra
space around the keys, this should be possible. If you provide the exact measurements
I will given it a shot :)

yes, it is a top-mount construction.
yes, only PCB-mount stabilizers are supported.
Sorry, I don't understand the rest of your question :(
Thank you for the clarification.
Here are my two remaining questions:
Question 1: Do you plan to add a plate for use without PCB and with plate-mounted stabilizers?
If you do not, where are two options to make this happen:
1. Use a standard 60% HHKB plate with the same dimensions as this one: https://1upkeyboards.com/diy-60-black-carbon-fiber-keyboard-kits.html (https://1upkeyboards.com/diy-60-black-carbon-fiber-keyboard-kits.html). This plate is smaller than the one used in your SKB60 design. In order to make a standard plate compatible with the SKB60 design, an adapter is be required. The adapter has to add a frame around the standard 60% plate in order to attach it to the SKB60 case.
2. Create a custom plate (e.g. with the swillkb case & plate builder http://builder.swillkb.com/ (http://builder.swillkb.com/)).
Question 2: In both cases, we would need to know the exact dimensions of the SKB60 plate design and the locations of the screw holes. Would it be possible to get this information?
Thank you for the clarification.

this is a top-mount construction, not a tray-mount. so this means no compatibility with "standard" plates.
if you want to make your own plate, i can provide you with the necessary data. (warning: if you want to LASER a single plate in germany it can easily cost you around 200euro)

yes, i can arrange that. but you do want the bead blasting, right?

list of orders with the usernames in the start post - yes, this will come, first i plan to include the ortholinear option.

Bead-blasting leaves a more rough looking texture opposed to anodized from what I've seen. I've already placed my order, but if this is a legitimate option without creating additional problems, I imagine this difference would really set this case off well.
I don't know about google forms, but recently joined a GB with an order list and I found it very useful.
Sorry for the confusion, my username is 'online'. :)
Anyway, I'm happy as long as I'm in. :)
There's no 75RE layout option on the form until now
Should I make my own custom plate instead? :D

just added the ortholinear option to the form. If you have placed your order already but want the ortholinear plate instead or added, then please PM me. I will update this information in the start post soon and bring ortholinear renders as well.

yes, you are in, WKL and HHKB.
I'll put up the order list soon in the opening post.
also new, if you want a YAS version and don't have a PCB from the GB or the extra sale (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=87511.0) jet, then you might get a chance to get it combined with the SKB. If at least 10 want it, silentreader will send me the PCBs and I will bundle it for you. less then 10 wouldn't make sense, in that case you can still get the PCB directly from silentreader.
PM me if you would like to get the YAS PCB with the SKB combined from me.
Are there any prototypes or renders for what the 75% will look like? I can find pictures of the plate/layouts, but I wasn't able to find a built model in this or the IC thread!
The pictures of the case I've seen so far look great!! :thumb:
No sample was ordered for the 75%. Decision was explained by OP back in the IC that it basically came down to cost, so he got 5 samples of the 60% case made, with a couple of different tops. 75% would have been cost prohibitive to do a prototype for.
Edit: Didn't realize the GB post was modified/updated and some of the images changed. FWIW, this is the gallery I have that I used to (unofficially) cross-post the GB over on the reddit, which has images pulled from IC: GALLERY (https://imgur.com/a/D4rSz)

thank you very much for posting this. I just now realize, that I still haven't linked to the renderings of the versions I don't have a sample of.
Do you still intend on cross-listing this GB officially over on R/MK and R/mechmarket? I recall you saying you wanted to wait for higher quality images and typing sounds video, which it looks like you have all set now. I'm happy to help and put up another unofficial updated GB post to followup on the first round of posts I did over there.
I don't know if the close date for this GB is hard set, but it would be great to get most orders for lowest price breaks, and the extra exposure over there could be helpful, especially with the new XD75 ortho plate you added (XD75 has trended pretty well over there, so I'm sure it would lure a couple more at least).

Yes, you recall that right and I still intend to make an official R/MK post. A few reasons why I still didn't.
Let me explain.
The powedercoating on the plates of the samples was much too thick and the bead blasting was kind of sloppy (some spots not really blasted). My contact at the firm was on holiday so I couldn't clear that out right away. This is no big deal, but before I collect any money from you I want to make sure that this will not happen in the final production.
Also I had some requests via PM for a 65% version. As many of you know this was ruled out during IC phase. 60% and 75% had just more votes, though 65% had much as well. For me the biggest reason against 65% was that at the time 65% PCBs alone were hard to get. This has changed a bit since. Now you can get them from Sentraq (https://sentraq.com/products/65-rgb-underglow-pcb), Keyclack (https://www.keyclack.com/product/m65apcb) and KBDfans (https://kbdfans.cn/collections/65/products/tada68-pcn?variant=3201133346829). So maybe I'm preparing to add this option as well (just adding the option is of course no guarantee it will happen since a minimum of 20 orders would be required).
Also I don't want to add another stack of renderings. I will make just one or two where all the versions join happily together, something like a nice family picture. And I still need more time for that.
So in short, I'm still working to insure quality, maybe add another version, last nice rendering. When that is done - then I will do R/MK to give it a last push.
Until then I'm totally comfortable if this GB goes a bit unnoticed - the numbers are already better then expected.
This also means, that the payment phase will have to be pushed back by two weeks I think (so not starting before mid-may).
I hope you're all fine with that.

Thanks for the update - quite happy to wait and not rush things to ensure things are as best as possible, and if you are adding onto the GB options that is well worth it. Are there any versions of cases or plates that are still below MOQ or look like they will struggle to be made? I'm specifically wondering about the 75%, which I am in for. I would presume that all of the 60% layouts would have hit MOQ easily, given the popularity of the size.

Hmm I had money stored for this GB. My next paycheck arrives around 20th of May, will the payment phase bend enough for the 20th so I can rearrange financials a little?
No worries on delaying anyway, would rather wait a month longer for a quality product. :)
If you can make that happen I would love it. Of course, if more people prefer a mid-May payment then you should go with that instead. :)This also means, that the payment phase will have to be pushed back by two weeks I think (so not starting before mid-may).

Yes, you are right, it makes sense to have the payment phase around the end/beginning of a month. So I guess it will have to be around the end of may.

Is there any option for an aluminum plate? I only ask because I kind of like the bounciness w/ tactile switches.
Thanks for the clarification on that. I like the bezel size its the screw height that bothers me aesthetically so Im definitely leaning towards this now rather than another KBD75.. I need to find homes for my extra key sets and and try and take some sort of retirement from this hobby for a while ;)
How do the screws feel btw? I showed this to my girlfriend and she brought up the point that they might be uncomfortable.
Good point, I was curious to find out about this. I don't feel the screws at all. When typing you don't come in contact with the frame/bezel anyway, that doesn't happen with any keyboard (at least not when I type). Then there are the situations when you don't type and your fingers rest on the keyboard. Mostly my fingers rest on the keys itself so in this case I don't feel the screws either. Sometimes my fingers wander around the key area and on the bezel/frame and then of course I do feel the screws but not in an obtrusive kind of way. They immediately become a part of the whole body and my fingers instinctively use them as kind of orientation points somewhat like the bumps on the F and J keys.

Powdercoated steel plate, as described by PlastikSchnittstelle. IDK if he'd be willing to share specs for the plates so you could have your own cut to order independently.

Now you can get them from Sentraq (https://sentraq.com/products/65-rgb-underglow-pcb), Keyclack (https://www.keyclack.com/product/m65apcb) and KBDfans (https://kbdfans.cn/collections/65/products/tada68-pcn?variant=3201133346829). So maybe I'm preparing to add this option as well (just adding the option is of course no guarantee it will happen since a minimum of 20 orders would be required).
looks amazing. one question, is there an option for the YAS62 PCB to have USB type C ?YAS62 didn't support USB Type C.

Any of the popular PCBs with the USB port on the left side will fit.
QuoteAny of the popular PCBs with the USB port on the left side will fit.
PCBs need to have USB port on left side, type irrelevant as long as it fits into the top left cutout window. Unsure if there's a limitation to if the port is top or bottom of PCB. I think back in the IC thread he says the cutout is fairly large to compensate for the different "popular" PCBs. The port cutout is directly under the top left corner screw, for reference if you want to math out the dimensions. Sorry if its already been asked, but what thread-size are the case screws? (The exposed/raised ones on the top of the case )
Want to try different types/colors of screws when mine arrives.
Also, since Im getting a YAS62 version, are we sure silentreader will have enough PCB stock to send you at the end of the group but? Worries he might sell out of his PCNs ahead of time. Thank you!

I'm aware of that, I just need the dimensions of the USB cutout. USB C requires a wider cutout than miniUSB B. I can figure the rest out if I know how big the cutout is, since most USB port differences are on the Z axis rather than X or Y in my experience.
At first glance, it looks like it should work, though.
Also, I've filled a new form, please disregard my first one (I swapped from HHKB to WKL)
- There are a few mini-USB cables that have a pretty bulky head. The top left screw is positioned right above the USB port and if you happen to have a bulky plug, then it might interfere slightly with the screw inside the case. Not a big deal, I just sliced a bit off the plug and then it did fit perfectly fine. I now this since the first prototype but I didn't want to change the screw position, since I think it's perfect and slicing isn't a big deal. Some cables fit right away, some need the slice.
- The position of the USB port differs slightly on some PCBs. Depending on your PCB, the plug might not be perfectly centered in the cutout, but of course it will always fit.

Don't worry i got 40 PCB left
if I want to change my order what is the easiest way to do it?

The cutout is now planned a bit larger than the one shown in the pictures. Now 14mm x 9.5mm. You are right, the z-height is the more critical point here, since there is one screw coming from above at that position.
You did read the section "Nit-picking" in the opening post? there I wrote:

I know it is difficult to know if a cable will fit or not before you have it in your hands and can measure it yourself. If not the little slice-job is not a big deal imo. But I get you want to be sure and have everything sorted out before. Which PCB with USB-C do you consider? I guess I'll just order one along with some different cables. Then I hope to be able to give some recommendations and amazon-links to cables that will fit guaranteed.
And yes, deleted your HHKB order entry.

Sweet :) I'll probably switch to it from a 75% excited to see it!
Nooooooooooooo! We need more 75s! All the 75s! Come on, people!

Just to make sure: has the 60% WKL case reached MOQ or not yet?
Ordered a DZ60 with USB-C this week for this case, it seemed like the least "bells and whistles" PCB that fits this case and supports QMK. :)
though I hope I will be able to use the linux subsystem in windows after the upcoming april-update instead of the msys2 terminal.

so you will go WKL with the DZ60 PCB? that means USB-C is super important to you, since you could just take a normal SATAN PCB for the WKL layout.
btw QMK is my favorite as well. once you know how to make your keymaps it works really good. no problem with two SATAN PCBs and one GH60 PCB so far. though I hope I will be able to use the linux subsystem in windows after the upcoming april-update instead of the msys2 terminal.
though I hope I will be able to use the linux subsystem in windows after the upcoming april-update instead of the msys2 terminal.oh the update makes it possible to flash via WSL? I have been using it to compile my QMK firmware already. Would be nice to do both from one terminal
Have we past 70 for 60%?
I'll be grabbing a 65 when those go live. Is it MOQ30 for each variant?MOQ is lower for the 60s cause they share parts. In the beginning I said 10 but that was stupid, 15 should really be the minimum otherwise it would be problematic for me. I'm lucky we have more now, so all OK. 75% has a MOQ of 20 but it is well over 30 now. 65% will have MOQ 20 as well. Think I'll be ready to add it tomorrow or Tuesday.
Yeah I considered Satan and GH60, but I wanted a 60% with USB-C (got iErgoDox and Pearl40% as USB-C only right now) and DZ60 was the only choice I found at a reasonable price when I quickly searched. This case is closed format so underglow not needed and I don't like backlighting that much either so did not want to waste money on those features with this one. :)yes, just quickly setting it up after you took hours building you keyboard is not how it works. I also needed to invest some time before I got it but once you are comfortable with it is really good. The official guide (https://docs.qmk.fm/) is very good and this youtube tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HLV6mUxNnU&list=PLYEUsdlqPD2a3kzQgnF98Prj-4IzZJGYG) helped me as well. I like the satan PCB also because there are a lot of keymaps in the github repository that I could learn from. Glad I'm not a fan of LED lighting keyboards, all the extra lines of code for RGB stuff seem to be quite complicated.
My first DIY kit was a Satan, jumped straight into QMK without even checking for GUI tool thingies or anything. Was a hassle but managed to get it working after a few hours of cussing and googling. :D
This looks really nice, and I think I'd like to get in on it. However, I've never built a board before. Would someone here advise me on which options to order? Here's what I'd like to end up with:1. HHKB is not for everyone. It is beautiful but not all can/want adapt to the layout. The YAS looks a little bit like HHKB because it has the narrower bottom row as well, not as much though. Most noticeable about the YAS is that it incorporates the arrow-cluster which is not common for 60% keyboards. That's why most program their arrow keys to another layer and access it via Fn key. If you rely heavily on the arrow keys then I recommend you go for the YAS version. It is also the only version that I can provide you with the PCB. Take a look at the original GB here (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=87511.0).
1. HHKB layout. Looks to me like I should get either SKB60 HHKB / Plate A, or SKB60 YAS / Plate B. I'm not clear on the difference.
2. Is split space-bar possible?
3. Which pcb to go with the above? I don't have a windows machine, so if there's a firmware download/upgrade necessary, could I do it on mac/linux?
4. How likely am I to destroy the pcb if I've never soldered before? In which case maybe a second pcb would be useful?
5. Was there a price estimate on shipping the above items to the U.S.? I haven't chosen my items on the order form yet, so I can't see shipping and paypal charges.
Thanks for your help.

great advice. I would add to not just watch soldering videos, you must watch Wodan's build videos, since then you can see a great technique to solder the switches tightly to the plate/PCB. I think he talks about this technique in the KBD75 video. Link to channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOfwAlVn0JxymLljlDnOODQ (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOfwAlVn0JxymLljlDnOODQ)

In the meantime, is there a 60%, programmable, hotswap board that would fit with this project? That would be the most fool-proof solution for me until I can figure the rest out.
Just wanted to offer that I created a very basic little signature banner if anyone wants to use to promote this project. It's in the imgur gallery I have for this project here at the end: https://imgur.com/a/D4rSz. If anyone else wants to take time to do their own that is better, please share!
Told you I'd buy some cables just to make sure there won't be any issues. Got them today. Two with USB-Mini-B plug and another two with USB-C plug. They all fit without interfering. Seems like my "make-sure-the-cable-fits" warning was a bit exaggerated. Let me explain again: It's not about making the cutout big enough - that's not a problem of course, it's about the screw coming down from the top, exactly where the cable is. But like I said, just enough clearance so the screw doesn't touch any of the four cables I bought. These are the ones:
- deleyCON mini USB (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00WHZ8KGW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

yep, thanks, that shows it quite well. but like I described, after I checked different cables: NO SCREW TOUCHING!!! so everything is fine :D
It looks like if someone was especially paranoid about the screw they could just replace it with a shorter screw. Easy.
It looks like if someone was especially paranoid about the screw they could just replace it with a shorter screw. Easy.I don't believe you could easily just use a shorter screw in that one place. The picture shows it with the standoff/spacer in place that sets the distance/depth of the entire plate/pcb assembly. After you stack on the plate, there is a nut that then threads on to secure it in place, and that nut sits flush with the end of the screw from other pics (in one of the 3 sample build galleries it is shown clearly). If you wanted shorter screw, you might compromise the security of that nut being properly threaded, so you would potentially have to adjust spacers (all of them, to keep it level) as well as all the screws, and then the plate/pcb would sit "higher" in the case, making it more of a mid/low profile look with switches being exposed and giving some keycap upskirts.
In the initial IC, you had the 65% as a mid-profile. Is it going to be 'upgraded' to hi-profile like the rest of the cases?
Also, question for anyone reading: does anyone have any good suggestions for PCBs that have south-facing LEDs? The Tada68 board has north-facing LEDs, which causes cherry profile R3 caps to hit the top of the switch, creating an unpleasant sound. The M65 PCB has south facing, but it's sold out, and the other options seem to be sold out as well.
If not, I can use xda/dsa or something else I guess

switches in the wrong orientation? oh yes, this is something that extremely annoys me as well. the satan pcb which is in two of my builds is done in this fashion as well. but as far as I can tell cherry profile abs doubleshot keycaps (GMK) don't hit the switch housing. this only happens with very thick pbt keycas and only some of a set. enjoy pbt for example, only on some modifier keys.
"Cherry MX switches are made for flangeless 3mm LEDs; 2x3x4mm LEDs work too, as well as 1.8mm LEDs." is from a quick search I found in this thread: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=62943.msg1475318#msg1475318
The 2x3x4 and 1.8mm LEDs now available are both suggested options for under-switch LEDs for the Kailh Box designed switches (tightly mounted/soldered to PCB to fit switch over), which is a very small/tight tolerance/clearance. I would surmise those LED sizes would not have the issues that started the whole north-facing LED conflict with Cherry profile r3 switches. It's an old out-dated issue, IMO, and keeps recirculating without much basis nowadays.2x3x4 gives issues with cherry profile (tried it about a year ago). 1.8mm works fine.
Its an issue even without LEDs, but especially with 2x3x4 ones. Has to do with the switch orientation itself. If youre using silent switches, its extremely noticeable. Tactile/clicks, much less so, since its already a symphony of clacks.
The issue is (depending how you label the rows) on the tab /QWERTY row.
So, either use a different profile keycap with silent switches, or cherry profile with tactile/clicks. The one combo that doesnt work is silent + cherry profile.
Again, not the end of the world. Just was curious if anyone had other suggestions. Thanks for the boards that were suggested!

Beautiful work :-*
You might check out Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) and Cerakote. Both are known for dimensionally thin coatings where part tolerance is critical. They're also probably an order of magnitude more expensive than typical powder coat, however. :-[
Cerakote is notoriously expensive.
Edit: For what it's worth, I'd be perfectly content with a nice powder coat. The Cherry MX cutout should allow for a tolerance of 0.004 inches, which is well within the limits of most powder coats on metal (60-80 microns).
I absolutely love this case and have the money to get a 60%, except for that God awful shipping price to the US. I'd most likely be in for this if there was a better shipping option or a US proxy by chance, but either way I love this design and good luck moving further!

Hey thanks!
The 40 pricing I mention in start post are a bit of a downer for US people, that's true. But the most orders from a single country come from the US - by far. There is also the 16 option that I haven't mentioned in the start post (also see some discussion about this a few pages back). Also some have contacted me offering help regarding proxy shipping to the US. The shipping is something I will work out later (and of course more detailed before the payment phase) but I can tell you that I will find a way to work out a shipping solution for the US that is much more affordable than 40 - promised!

UPDATE (regarding prices):
Just wanted to let you all know, that there are over 100 orders now (⁓110). That means the lowest price point is unlocked. We are past 100 since some time now already but the reason I didn't let you know this until now was because I didn't ever expect to reach this number and therefore the prices for 100+ were a rough estimate. So I had to get new prices in order to check if I can actually keep the announced prices for 100+. This took time. Now I can tell you, that the prices for 100+ are correct! So we are now at:
128 for all SKB60 versions
145 for the SKB75
The SKB65 will be 138, I still need some more time before I can add it to the order form (checking out if it's possible to offer you a PCB along with it).
Also good news for everyone who ordered an extra plate. They are 30 right now but they will get cheaper. I'll try to offer extra plates as cheap as possible, closer to 20. Next week I will be able to name the exact price and then update it in the order form.
Just to be prepared I will calculate another price point for 150+ units. Will take me at least another week before I can update you on that.
Still planning on cross-listing this on r/mk & r/mechmarket? I feel like you could easily get another 50 orders from that alone, especially with all the new artwork and body of images/renders you have amassed at this point!
Hopefully we will have an option to not use a proxy as well. I personally don't think saving $20 is worth the extra weeks it would take the proxy to receive and ship (or not ship, due to "personal issues") the kits.

Chipped in as well - don't make me consider building a third OLKB so we can meet the MOQ :)) kidding aside, I'd be heartbroken if we don't hit the MOQ, especially since it's so difficult to find cases that perfectly fit the XD75. I really need to get rid of the KPRepublic steel case, doesn't look as nice as I had hoped. Also, who doesn't want a keyboard-turned panzer?

I want to join this GB but I don't have any experience with importation (I live in USA). Would that 40 euro shipping estimation include import fees? Does DHL handle that kind of stuff? I think I have the money to spend on keyboard stuff right now but I just don't want to get shocked with customs charges when it arrives haha.
Regarding PCB, could you use the tada PCB? or kbdfans is working on the yd68?
Have been looklng for a nice case for a 75 and stumbled upon this one. And in the EU, so no extra cost with duties and vat. Think my Pulse caps are gonna love this.
Regarding PCB, could you use the tada PCB? or kbdfans is working on the yd68?
Yes, the TADA fits perfectly fine. Basically any 65% PCB you can find will fit.
Here is a list of the 65% PCB options that are available:
- 65% RGB Underglow PCB from Sentraq (https://sentraq.com/products/65-rgb-underglow-pcb) (QMK, white PCB)
- M65-A PCB from Keyclack (https://www.keyclack.com/product/m65apcb) (QMK or PS2AVR, black PCB)
- Tada68 PCB from KBDfans (https://kbdfans.cn/collections/65/products/tada68-pcn?variant=3201133346829) (QMK, white PCB)
- 22mini-B PCB from Winkeyless (https://winkeyless.kr/product/22mini-b-x2-pcb/) (PS2AVR, white PCB)
Okay thanks! When the form is updated I will also update my order to the 65. Thanks.
Okay thanks! When the form is updated I will also update my order to the 65. Thanks.
I suggest you take a look at the form now ;)
Regarding changes of your orders:
If you have already filled out the form and later want to change your version or add one, then please just fill it out again but with the complete order. So if you had ordered an HHKB version for example and you want a second one, then please don't add another order with ONE HHKB. Instead fill out the form with TWO HHKB orders. I can spot double entries and I will just delete your older form entries and just keep the last/youngest submission.
What will the 65 plate look like? Ideally I’d prefer it to be like plate a or the 75 plate, without the huge long opening across the 1st row.
The available 65% PCBs don't offer split spacebar support so the SKB65 plate doesn't either.

That is one reason I hadn't put up the 65% jet - just no time to make the plate info picture and new renderings. You can see the plate in the form. The SKB75 plate has the cutouts because the new KBDfans PCB supports split spacebar. The plate of the SKB75 supports this of course. The available 65% PCBs don't offer split spacebar support so the SKB65 plate doesn't either.
The M65-A has split spacebar support, according to its product page
I have no statistics but I imagine the quantity of people who wold buy a split space 65% is rather small.

I have. About 30% of the participants plan to build with split spacebar.
One you start using split spacebar, there is no going back :D atleast for me.
I won't get the 65%, so don't mind me, but I would argue having the plate support it will just open up more options for people. Is there a major downside to supporting it?

Im not 100%, I think its just the bigger cuts outs on the plate, which means you see more pcb; making it less aesthetically pleasing.
I'm planning to sell a yas62 pcb with silver alu plate for 60 shipped. If anyone is interested, pm me.

Now to decide which to get, 60% or 75%. Someone help me out, as I am at an impass as for which one to get. I quite like the 75% layout, but already have one. Middle ground, 65%
If you aren't familiar or comfortable with 60%, committing to a custom case for one isn't really wise, IMO. 75% customs are fewer and far between, and I'm a 75% lover so I'd make the case (ha) to go with the 75%.

Not a fan of the bottom row. I do admit it is a sick layout. Might just buy both and sell one later. I'm sure these will hold/gain value.
I just signed up for a YAS62 kit, but could not remember if I signed up for a WKL earler in April. can you check, and if so, cancel the WKL order?
Regarding changes of your orders:
If you have already filled out the form and later want to change your version or add one, then please just fill it out again but with the complete order. So if you had ordered an HHKB version for example and you want a second one, then please don't add another order with ONE HHKB. Instead fill out the form with TWO HHKB orders. I can spot double entries and I will just delete your older form entries and just keep the last/youngest submission.

FYI - If you have a double-entry, the most recent entry will overwrite the older one, if it is there.
Could someone explain to me why top mount is generally considered superior to tray mount? All my keyboards so far are tray mount only.
UPDATE (regarding your orders):
lately not many new orders are coming in. But a lot of you want to change the order and switch to another version or add one. Sounds simple but takes time as well.
unless Ortho75 still too lowOh god please no :-[ any update on order count for the ortho plate?
I think you will see another bump/surge of new orders once you get plate finishing/samples resolved and you move forward with promotion posts on rmk/mechmarket, but it seems like all case and plate variants have hit reasonable MOQ by now (aside from the 60-b plate you already addressed), unless Ortho75 still too low?
Also update GB post title with something to indicate final changes (for example: [GB] SKB75 & SKB60 (Standard, WKL, HHKB, YAS and ORTHOLINEAR) - FINALIZED UPDATE).
Any chance of seeing a pic with a SA set on it? :) only if possible :thumb:
I am just really curious how much more nice it will be with the 3mm sink in.
Still plans for the 65?
Would you be fine with shipping to a proxy?

Seeing as the SKB60 B Plate with arrow options (DZ60 PCB compatible) might be dropped due to low commits I might either back out, or go for the 65 with the LFK65 Hotswap PCB https://www.lfkeyboards.com/lfk65-hotswap.html (https://www.lfkeyboards.com/lfk65-hotswap.html)

Are there any other hotswap boards that would work with these cases?

That PCB fits the M65-A, according to the plate layout for the SKB65, it should fit. I believe that the HS60 (https://mechboards.co.uk/shop/all/hs60-pcb/ (https://mechboards.co.uk/shop/all/hs60-pcb/)) might fit the SKB60 Plate A.
Another PCB would be M60 -A PCB, but the daughter board might be an issue so I don't recommend it. the GK61 might fit, but I don't recommend it as it doesn't use QMK or boot loader but something completely different, it's actually pretty bad.

since this case is a top mount construction you don't need to worry about screw hole positions in the pcb at all. also the case is quite roomy on the inside :)
that means that basically any pcb will fit as long as it has the usb port at the standard left position.
Would hotswap sockets mean that the PCB and plate can be separated on the fly as long as all the switches are removed beforehand? Would this make the top-mount less sturdy or something?
A sample of the SKB75 this time. I'll still have it this month, will make another build and document it for you.
So I estimate payment will start earliest by the end of this month.
Thanks for your patience, we're almost there ;)

Yay 75% love! Which pcb are you planning on using? I think the only pcb that had a bit of a question on it was the xd84 because of the chip on the bottom of the pcb possibly contacting the bottom on lowest case angle. On that note could you show what the case looks like when set at a steep/higher angle (~14°+), which is obviously not great comfort for many, but stiletto high heels aren't about being comfortable either and look great :-\
Just to make sure: since payment phase is getting pushed back, does that mean ordering past today (20.) is possible as well?
How do I confirm that the order I placed is registered? I did not get any confirmation after filling out the order form.
Nice man with getting the 75% samle in.. ( Hoping to see it with SA on ) And no rush finishing this up! How is the 65% doing?
and if one would like to swap from 75 to 65? Great work with everything so far!! :thumb:
I have added another plate option to choose from. Now SKB60 is available with an ortholinear plate, which support the XD75 PCB (https://de.aliexpress.com/item/-/32831044551.html?spm=a2g0x.10010108.1000023.5.37ba4d4dlaJzIT) for example.
This links to the XD75am, I think. Does the hotswap version also fit this case? I think that one's the XD75re (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/xd75re-Custom-Mechanical-Keyboard-75-keys-TKG-TOOLS-Underglow-RGB-PCB-GH60-60-programmed-gh60-kle/32818745981.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.1.47c47fa3u102Ix&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_5_10152_10151_10065_10344_10130_10068_10324_10547_10342_10325_10546_10343_10340_10548_10341_10545_10696_10084_10083_10618_10307_10059_308_100031_10103_10624_10623_10622_10621_10620_10814_10815,searchweb201603_2,ppcSwitch_2&algo_expid=34cdb337-3f19-43e9-a1a0-009d27388037-0&algo_pvid=34cdb337-3f19-43e9-a1a0-009d27388037&priceBeautifyAB=0). I've read that the screw positions on the XD75re are unusually placed, but I'm not sure if that's true.
Also, if I wanted the option of doing an HHKB layout, in addition the ortho layout, I couldn't just get a separate plate for that--I'd have to get a different case, correct? Because of the different design with the blockers?
Would hotswap sockets mean that the PCB and plate can be separated on the fly as long as all the switches are removed beforehand? Would this make the top-mount less sturdy or something?
interesting point and YES!
the pcb is only held by the solder joints to the switches.
going for a hot-swap-pcb won't make anything less sturdy. all the sturdiness comes from the case and the plate. these two itself are so rocksolid that not any kind of pcb will ever be able to in- or decrease sturdiness. the pcb just isn't part of this equation.
Someone else correctly pointed out the problem with hot-swappable PCBs when used with a case/plate like this, since the switch sockets' pressure fit on the switch pins will be needing to be strong enough to hold weight of PCB suspended from the plate, since there wouldn't be the fixed soldered joints for security. YMMV/TBD. Also, screwholes on PCB are irrelevant, only switches will be securing the PCB to the top-mounted plate, as mentioned.
As for the Ortho & HHKB, you would need at least the matching plate AND matching case top. I don't know if anyone has asked PlastickSchnittstelle about that option yet, but the possibility of him deciding to sell additional tops without bottoms is his to decide, as I can only imagine how complex ordering, QC, and sorting a GB covering this many sizes and layouts already is. He's already proven to be paying attention to every detail of this ambitious first run, and has been very organized thus far, but a man may have his limits :thumb:

What do you mean by that? If you would like to swap your order or add to it, I still allow that - but not for much longer, let's say until the end of this month. Just do it like explained here (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=95113.msg2608241#msg2608241), please. Short: just fill out the form again, I'll delete your old entry.
You should get what you want, right ;)
What are the numbers like for SKB60 at the moment? :)
So the 75 has its MOQ? Will you do it even if just one layout gets enough orders? I ordered a KBDfans PCB yesterday and just now realised that this is a GB and I probably should have waited until it realy started :D
The MOQ was for all units combined, i think the 40 units were ppassed within the first couple of days.
well, MOQ is said 40, i meant overall, but it would be a disaster for me. prices were supposed to be higher but i got scared before posting that after all the time, interest might have faded so I went as low as possible to make it happen. also I haven't mentioned that every single version needs to be produced at least 10 times (which is crazy low, anybody who has a clue knows I can't make no profit with that). it looks like we get at least 10 for all versions, let's hope it will get more over time. 50 overall for the first 24h is good I guess.

I believe we are still waiting on him to receive/build SKB75 and get finalized satisfactory powder coating or alternative finishing on the plates. The extra time in the pre-invoice phase for samples/QC is welcome, since most GBs can be run much more shoddily and without the extra prep and guarantee of the final products.
Yes, like Anakey, okidna and Zuology pointed out - MOQ is met. All versions (SKB60-STD, SKB60-ORTHO, SKB60-WKL, SKB60-HHKB, SKB60-YAS, SKB65, SKB75) will be made. So even Ortholinear. It shares all parts with the SKB60-STD, except the plate of course. There is at least one Ortho extra plate order so it made it as well.
A lot of questions that come up have already been answered in some kind of way, but I can understand that - I know, most of the time I haven't read through a whole thread myself before I post somewhere.
Btw I really appreciate Zuology's help on digging out the relevant quotes and help me answer recurring questions ;)

That is correct - as soon as I have the SKB75 sample, I'll do a build again and equipped with this I will do an official RMK/mechmarket post.
Since we are well over 100 now I asked for a new quote as well. When I have that I will be able to name another price break point :)
I hope this news makes the wait a bit easier.
Btw, hadn't gotten any feedback regarding the update on the shipping cost (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=95113.msg2610962#msg2610962) - I thought this would be good news as well, right?
I didn't quite understand the discussion about the XD75re. Will the board fit in this case?

I have a question regarding the SKB60-HHKB case design. If I understand it correctly, the case is designed for a HHKB Layout with a 7u space key. However, the SKB60-A plate design accepts 6u and 6.25u space keys in addition to 7u space keys.
The original HHKB layout uses a 6u space key. In my opinion for a good reason--with a 7u space key the keys right of it are hard to reach. In my opinion 6u und 6.25u space are a much better choice for the HHKB layout, but only if the case matches. So, my question is: did you consider a case design with a lower row for 6u space keys?
For cheaper packaging, can you merge my order with silentreader's?

With plate A and a pcb that supports this, you can of course use a 6u, 6.25u or split spacebar. The only "problem" are the symetric blockers of the case. Real HHKB has a longer blocker on the right (2,5u instead of 1,5u). So if you use a smaller spacebar, you will have 3 keys on the right of your spacebar, instead of 2. I do not think, that we will see a version of proper HHKB sized blockers. Personally I will just have the additional key there, as I will build the board with a splitted spacebar myself.
But I understand your issue very well. I also find 7u spacebars to be of impractical length. Anyone using the right Alt key frequently (like everyone using US-International), will find the Alt key in an inconvenient position. But still this 7u HHKB style is very popular and there are next to no cases with proper HHKB blockers :/
What kind of switches is everyone planning on using? Im really excited to try out some nice linears with this case
Quick question, the ortho plate is compatible with XD75re pcb, right?

Yes, the plate-A would allow for 7U, 6.25U and 6U HHKB layout. But I can only offer ONE HHKB-top part. The reason we went for the HHKB-7U top instead of 6.25U or the original 6U is because it was decided via google form back in the IC phase. So I thought this is through, however If all of a sudden it turns out, that all of you who ordered the HHKB version would be fine with the 6U-HHKB, it would be easy for me to make this insted of the 7U top.
Maybe the ones who halped to make the decicsion via google-form back then are now not those who actually order - I can't say. If a healthy amount of the HHKB buyers will voice their wish for 6U instead of 7U top here, I will PM all HHKB orders and ask.
Good idea?
...The PCB also exists without hot-swap socket, so you can build a proper keyboard. I prefer swapping the keyboard instead of swapping the switches, much quicker ;)
UPDATE (order list):
many of you made some changes to their order lately, thanks for sticking to the method I asked you for (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=95113.msg2608241#msg2608241). Here is an updated list of all the orders so far. This time not as picture file. It's a PDF, so now you can just hit "Ctrl+F" or "⌘+F" to find your name quickly.

UPDATE (final sample and invoicing):
...
A US proxy is also something I wanted to look into. Need to decide about that as well before invoicing can start. A proxy would mean a lot of extra communication, planning and time. That's why I hope the new and cheaper shipping options I told you about here (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=95113.msg2610962#msg2610962) are satisfactory for you. If so, we could get along without proxy. Need some opinions about that.
Orders are still taken for these reasons, obviously.
This is really bugging me out but at the moment I can't do nothing about it, but be patient.
Btw, almost none of you who ordered the HHKB version really cares about the 6U suggestion (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=95113.msg2613894#msg2613894), right?
You can always invoice for the cases and shipping separately, which is common among GBs. This has a few advantages: 1) Gives you more time to decide how to handle shipping 2) Doesn't screw you or GB participants over if exchange rates change between the GB ending and when you are ready to ship 3) Makes it easier for people to change their address during the GB if they need it to be shipped somewhere else.
I'm fine with the updated shipping estimates to the US, way better than the original ones, but if a proxy would help even more I wouldn't decline.

It's completely up to you on figuring out pricing/communication/logistics of a US Proxy. I personally don't have any issue with the lower-cost shipping option you already quoted, and unless the potential US proxy has a commercial account already in place, the domestic shipping within CONUS will be close to the direct-from-EU price already, and will entail a lot more moving pieces.
My 2c is that you can invoice for the kits themselves and then separately for shipping once that is confirmed and solidified, just to get things moving.
(As a non-HHKB user) Have you put together a list of those buying HHKB cases and emailed or PM'd them directly for input, or maybe create a short google form survey and have those people fill it out for feedback?
UPDATE (regarding shipping):
Many of you asked if I could offer a cheaper shipping alternative. To the USA I only offered 40 shipping so far. I chose this option because I wanted tracked shipping. I just spent some more time checking out the DHL options and it turns out I missed something before. The cheapest international (includes USA) option is 16 and does not include tracking and insurance. BUT you can add tracking and insurance (only up to 50 though) for additional 4 to it. So this means 20 is available as well now. This option allows up to 2kg. This means I can pack two SKBs and one or maybe even two extra plates in the package. The ∼40 option allows for up to 5kg, that would mean at least five SKBs and extra plates. I made a table showing the available options. All prices include 1 extra for packaging cost:
Destination Option 1 Option 2 Germany 6

I'd like to have a 6u spacebar and longer blocker on right.
(I just don't browse GH often enough, found the GB from reddit. That might be the case for others too why people have not commented about the 6u vs 7u.)
I'm for 6U as well. Sadly we lost the poll in the IC phase by something like 40%-60%. 7U is still better than nothing I guess.
I've had a search about but can't see it listed clearly so apologies if I've missed it.KBD75

I'd be down with stainless but it's not a deal breaker for me. Looking forward to this moving forward. I wanted to confirm being in for an unanodized SKB75, is the any special notation for that in the table?
IMPORTANT:
OK, there is a decision that has to be made before I can send out invoices. As you know, I pointed out several times how important the black plate is to me.
Quick recap:
Powder coating is not an option, because a thin layer can't be easily be achieved on a surface that has this many holes close together. The layer turns out to be too thick so the switches don't snap in nicely.
Black galvanizing was supposed to be the solution, but it turns out it has a drawback. It is not possible to galvanize stainless steel - this is only possible with "normal" steel.
I did research for other possibilities to make stainless steel black. There are solutions but they are not possible with the current prices.
I know most here expect the plate to be stainless steel, so I feel I can't just do this without letting you know.
So I need to know what is more important to you:
a) black plate / standard steel
b) bare plate / stainless steel
Again, sorry for the wait, we are very close.
About a) vs b)
The steel is not exposed to heavy weather conditions but inside a keyboard on a desk. Even normal steel will last for generations without the slightest trace of rust. Though the reflections of the shiny stainless steel is something you would notice every single day. So for me steel/black is the way to go, I just felt I had to let everyone know.

About two or three want without anodizing. Don't worry, I won't forget.
Update regarding invoices:
When? probably next week.
Once invoices go out I will make a raffle. Five extra SKBs will be given away for the first 100 who payed. So many will have quite a good chance of getting an extra one. Once determined who the lucky ones are, they can choose any SKB version they want.
Hansichen and Zuology will get an extra SKB. Hansichen, because he was the first who ordered and Zuology because he was a great help. Just let me know which version you want to add.
I guess I am the odd man out, I'd prefer stainless steel, but will take what is available.

I think SS is also a solid choice, but a black plate on a custom board is (kinda) rare nowadays

Oh shoot, I just realized the GB was supposed to close two days ago. Not sure if I made it in, in time or not.I think he extended it because the 75% has a little delay or something? Im not sure, but I submitted my order yesterday and the form was still open. Fingers crossed!
Yep, hopefully invoicing starts next week.
Yep, hopefully invoicing starts next week. At least until then I'll take orders. Sorry, just haven't updated the start-post regarding this jet.
And yes, still don't have that final sample.
I would prefer to pick up the cases myself instead of shipping, is that possible?

Of course! Already noticed that you're from frankfurt as well. When the time comes you'll get it directly from me. :thumb:
Btw, when I prepare shipping I'll look if city names pop up more than once and pm those who live in the same city. This may be a chance for some to save a few more bucks on shipping.
I'm from Leinfelden, thats right next to Stuttgart. Just in case there was someone from good ol Stuggitown :)
I believe I joined by the form about a month ago but I have no way to confirm it. Can you confirm ifI have joined? My reddit username is "snat_"
Are you still waiting for 75 sample?
Will take me at least another week before I can update you on that.
...
btw, will post an updated order list soon because many of you switched to a different version and some new orders.
Just wondering, is there still going to be a drop at 160+ units? :D

Still possible to get in by any chance? And if so, I assume Ill have to desolder YAS pcb from the plate and use your plate, correct?

I'm not a DT user, but I believe the GB is also mirrored over there in its own thread.
Looks better imho. You're doing a great job mate.
@PlastikSchnittstelle
Please don't be sleepless - you have been doing a very good job in trying to make sure everything is in order, which is the most important thing.
Your design has multiple unique features advantage and plus a competitive price setting strategy - I cannot see any competition even from the Chinese. And all along we can see that you are responsive and diligent for this GB.
I have more money to pay for my order at the end of the month (plus I am still looking for a job!), so I am fine waiting a bit more for some products that I will be satisfied and do not have to return because of issues.
UPDATE!
TLDR;
The reason for the many delays is that the last samples showed fractures at the edges. A lot of testing with different alloys, radiuses, tool setups and material thickness had to be done. The issue is now resolved, we found the right recipe to avoid any fractures without altering the design too much. If you are not happy with the changes - pm me to cancel your order. It's also cheaper now.
The whole story:
First SORRY for the constant delays! Now let me explain to you why. I mentioned a few times before that I wanted to ensure that there won't be any quality issues when we go to production. Behind this was one specific issue that was very difficult to control. If you bend aluminium you sometimes get fractures at the edge. This wasn't happening with my first prototype and therefore I had no reason to believe this might become a problem. But the last samples (which you saw many pictures of) all had fractures at the edges. The reason none of you realized those fractures in the pictures is probably because of the file compression and also because the bead blasting reduces the effect to a certain extent. Regardless if you spot it or not - there is now way I would have ever been fine with this. The manufacturer first told me we would just have to use a different alloy but still the fractures appeared. I had to adapt the design a few times and the manufacturer tried different tooling. The most noticeable change that had to be made was to reduce the material thickness. 3mm was insanely thick for an object of this size. We tried 2.5mm but it was still too thick. 2mm thickness combined with a slightly bigger radius turned out to be good. Now maybe some of you will be disappointed and think that going from 3 to 2 mm is a bad thing but let me put this into perspective. Sheet metal enclosures for electronics of comparable size usually use a thickness of 0.5mm. Even bigger enclosures like PC cases go with 0.5mm, sometimes 1mm. Only very expensive PC cases use a thickness of 1.5mm but not 2mm. So with 2mm thickness at this small scale we are still at level overkill. The 3mm was just insane and with the knowledge I have now, I can say that 3mm would have only work when bending it over a huge radius - something that just doesn't fit in the design scale of a keyboard.
This gave me sleepless nights. At some point I thought I would have to cancel the whole damn GB but working on a solution turned out to be successful.
I hope you understand that this took time, especially because in between changes I had to wait an annoyingly long time for results. The manufacturer is jam-full of orders and my one is comparably insignificant.
So this was the reason why I had to delay the invoicing for so many times. Collecting the money before I'm not sure that all works out, is something I just wouldn't be comfortable with.
I made new renderings, illustrations and updated the links in the start post. The overall appearance is still the same imo. The frame is now 1mm wider on each side and the outer radius ended up slightly bigger. The weight of the finished build was a bit heavier than a poker3, now it will be roughly the same weight. I decided to make the frame a bit higher so now the caps sink in a bit deeper, while at the same time I managed to keep the very low height of the lowest row. IchiBalzac kindly sent me a PCB with hot-swap sockets. Now that I have all the dimensions I can say that even at the lowest 6 degree you won't have any problem fitting them in. You also have the freedom to use different sized standoffs or spacers to raise or even lower the plate further.
The sample is almost finished - just the bead-blasting and then the anodizing isn't done jet. I'll get it at the end of next week and can then make another build and pictures. After that the invoicing will start - for real this time!
If you feel that you don't want to participate in the GB anymore due to the changes, please pm me.
Last thing to mention is the new price point. The current order quantity (almost 170) combined with the slightly thinner aluminium make the following prices possible:
SKB60: 115 (was before 128)
SKB65: 125 (was before 136)
SKB75: 135 (was before 145)
Extra plate: 20 (was before 25)
Thank you very much for your understanding and patience!

just checked, you chose one SKB60-WKL.
just checked, you chose one SKB60-WKL.
Can you confirm if I chose the SKB60-YAS and YAS PCB? Could I also have another YAS PCB added to this?
This still applies:
If you have already filled out the form and later want to change your version or add one, then please just fill it out again but with the complete order. So if you had ordered an HHKB version for example and you want a second one, then please don't add another order with ONE HHKB. Instead fill out the form with TWO HHKB orders. I can spot double entries and I will just delete your older form entries and just keep the last/youngest submission.
Exactly, you have SKB60-YAS and YAS PCB. Of course you can add a second YAS-PCB if you like. Just fill out the form again with the complete order like I described here:
yes, but it's just a number.
UPDATE
Got the sample Yesterday. YES, longer than expected - AGAIN! Finally everything is fine! Most rushed build I've ever done. Just took some quick pictures. Will be on a short holiday till next week. Then I'll start invoicing.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/p2QlShj.jpg)
The plate for this sample is not galvanized cause they only do it when they get a lot. This is why you can see the reflections of the plate between the caps. With the black galvanized plate in GB production, the reflections won't appear.

Was there ever a 75% sample made?
Also, does the sound change with the thinner material?
Thanks so much for your patience!

Is it too late to join the GB? I just saw this and im interesed in a 75% :)
I remember reading somewhere (either here or on Deskthority) that PlastikSchnittstelle said that as long as the form is open and you can fill it out, you will be part of the GB (since invoices will go out after the weekend or something). Is it too late to join the GB? He hasn't closed order form yet, or at least has not made any statement about it yet

Yes, what happened to the 75% sample?
I am also very interested in how the thinner material will affect the sound.
Only after I have collected at least 80% of the payment, I will place the final order so the production will start.
Yes, you are right, will be October now. Can't believe it has already been taking sooo long. Will update the start post accordingly over the next days.
Joined the GB yesterday last minute, hope i am still in :)

yep, you are ;)
will take orders throughout the invoice/payment phase. maybe even after because I might round up some numbers and therefore will have a few extras to sell.
Planning to jump on board, looking at the 65% case, what MOQ are we at?

we are at 160+
I just realized I haven't updated the pricing info in the start post yet, sorry will do soon.
this post mentions the current prices (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=95113.msg2633236#msg2633236).
In the skb65 would there be enough froom for a battery? (Thinking of building with the yd68... Bluetooth PCB. And idk if there will be about 5mm extra distance between the bottom of PCB and the bottom of case. :)
Hey,
I sent an email to all participants. just summing up the recent development and informing about the next steps. also the new 15 international shipping option. hope it didn't land in your spam folder. I know from scott that his went to spam, he uses gmail, so if you use gmail, there is a very good chance the mail landed in your spam as well.
want to send the invoices out later this day or tomorrow.
Is it too late to jump on board?
So theoretically, I could also change to the YAS layout? Or would I cause even more hassle for you? Im looking forward to mine either way!Is it too late to jump on board?
no absolutely not too late!
orders will be accepted as long as the payment phase is still ongoing OR as long as the google form is open, you can join.

As I said earlier, be sure to check your spam folders.
hey, I just sent out a few invoices to trigger a certain paypal notification that pops up when I approach the max monthly limit. had to put in some more personal info. if I had sent out all at once the account would have been frozen. now just above the limit and everything seems fine. just wanted to move careful, like always ;D
to give all the rest the same chance to enter the raffle, I'll finish save them as draft and then send them out at once. takes really long, just putting the email in isn't enough, the whole address must go in. have about 70 now. guess I won't be able to finish them all this evening, so the big batch will go out tomorrow.
but it's good to know, that paypal behaves well.

UPDATE (final sample and invoicing):
Yesterday I talked to the manufacturer. The final sample is still not made (SKB75). I will have it by the end of next week, hopefully. The quote for the higher quantity, I will also only get next week.
I can't start sending out invoices until I have both the final sample and the new quote.
The final sample is so important because with it will be decided if a slight design change will be made or not. Nothing drastic but I want to show it before invoicing.
Only with the final quote I can determine the final price for roughly 150 units. We are just about 20 units away from this at the moment. The reddit GB post I want to do as soon as I have the final sample should help us get there.
Hey dude, this is a lovely board and I just got my invoice. Unfortunately 4 months have past since my initial interest in these boards and in that time I started looking into moving out from home. I just paid my deposit fee on my first apartment and can't afford anything related to this hobby for quite a while. :( Hopefully someone else will be able to pick up my spot. Sorry to let you know this way, I know these boards will be amazing and I can't wait to see pics of it when they comes out! I'm actually trying to sell everything to help me with all my expenses. :(

I got my invoice, but it's the most expensive shipping option. I only have 2 cases and 1 PCB. How can I go down to the less expensive one?

I think so far only three or four had contacted me cause i had put the wrong version or amount on the invoice.
Hey there, I replied to the invoice with updated info, but haven't gotten the new invoice yet. Just wanted to make sure you received it. Thanks!
I think so far only three or four had contacted me cause i had put the wrong version or amount on the invoice.
That statement confuses me a little. My invoice states: "SKB60 (Standard, WKL, HHKB, YAS, Ortho)"
Only thing I can check is the amount of keyboards (1), but I can not verify that you have me down for the correct kind.
If you want people to verify the choices, you need to put case and plate type on the invoice. Or have you done that on later invoices? .,.

they all have the same price, so I treat them as one item to simplify the invoicing process for me. check the last updated order list (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=95113.msg2645802#msg2645802), there you can see which SKB60 you ordered, WAIT... just looked it up, you ordered the HHKB version.
ah, yeah, just like hansichen mentioned just before
BUT this is still bad practice. The invoice should state for what I paid the money.
Hey, I'm not ignoring my invoice. Will pay it tomorrow morning for sure. :thumb:
Hi guys, I've ordered the SKB60-HHKB version and I think I may be a bit over my head.
I was under the assumption that I could just transfer my HHKB pieces INTO this casing and I'd be good to go.
Since placing my order, I've learned more and more about this /hobby/ and am now aware to how much work I'm getting myself into haha.
If someone could recommend a PCB that would fit my case I'd appreciate it.
Any other tips / list of things I'll need moving forward would be amazing.
Thanks for all your help!

We are over 90 payments. 94.Awesome, thanks!
So we have about two thirds. Not sure if this is good or bad, I tend to believe it is more good. Think it's normal that many pay at the last day - often did it like that myself.
Finally decided to pull the trigger, really excited about it! :thumb: ;DWow, you are super fast! Already received the invoice and paied! Thanks a lot!
One quick question which probably has been asked a few times already, but wasn't able to find anything about it with a quick look through the thread: In the order PDF, there is the SKB60 STD PL-B plate, which is not available in the order form (or in the OP). What exactly is this plate B?
Since I ordered a WKL, I'm guessing it doesn't matter anyways, because this has "it's own category", but still want to know and be sure.

Heya, curious, any way to get any other color than black? :p
No problem :) was worth a try to ask ;)Heya, curious, any way to get any other color than black? :p
hey, only black is available. the case (top and bottom part) is black anodized aluminium. the plate is black galvanized steel.
there were two or three in the very beginning who asked if they could get their parts raw/untreated. I said OK, so they get it raw, but that was an exception, I can't offer this to more people. there are already so many versions together with different shipping options that make the whole GB very complicated to handel. It's just black now.
UPDATE (PAYMENT STATUS):
I made a new order list - this time it also shows the payment status for each participant. There are still 41 invoices unpaid. We'll see after the first week of September is over, by then most of the invoices are due.
Please everyone check the list for mistakes.
Last day. How's it looking?
Last day. How's it looking?
Well, since my last post only a few more have paid. As of now there are still 38 unpaid. I'd like to split up this group into three different kinds:
A) Four of them asked if they could get some more time. Thanks to them, cause if I know they want to keep their commitment but just need some more time, then I can proceed, assured they'll pay later. No problem with that.
B) Most of those who haven't paid jet have kept quiet - I'd be thankful for some feedback like the ones from A) gave me.
C) This is the group most troubling for me as a GB runner. 13 have just canceled their invoice. I only noticed that last week. Was a bit confused when I noticed that the number of unpaid invoices went down without payments going in. So I went through the list in my paypal account and noticed "canceled" invoices - I didn't even know this was possible. Paypal doesn't gave me any kind of notification for this. I wrote an email to them, basically asking what's up but only one single person has answered. He mentioned having written a note for me on paypal along the cancelation but paypal does not show me any details about those invoices other than that they are marked as cancelled.
So it seems like this group just had fun filling out the form but didn't feel any kind of obligation. They pre-invoice Email summarized the latest development and I totally accepted any requests to drop out by then. But just disappearing is pretty not OK imo.
So what now:
25 still open and 13 cancelled. I'd like to wait for next week and hopefully some more of the 25 will pay or just contact me and ask for a delay. If the 25 stay committed then I will cover the 13 as extras and the order will be placed.
Backup plan:
SKB75 and SKB60-WKL samples incoming, ETA end of next week. Will put more effort in taking pictures (all before were just by phone) and make an official reddit post (had promised that long before anyway). This should help to get the amount that justified the price point all were paying.
Production:
I will give the go for production no later than September, even if I don't get the planned number of orders. Wouldn't be nice for me but the huge majority of you paid and have been waiting looong enough - thank you for your awesomeness!
Oh, aaand I forgot to tell you about the raffle. The winners are written down on a piece of paper that I don't have with me right now. Will let you know tomorrow.
Just keep in mind that you should not bear the financial risk of this, if you can't get enough sold to reach the price point we had earlier you need to charge us remaining buyers more.Agreed. But I believe with advertising the GB on reddit in a couple of days, it should be possible to find new buyers for those slots
Some GB runners are too nice and cover these costs themselves but then end up in financial issues...

agree, I wouldn't mind paying extra to keep the GB going smoothly instead of put all the financial stress on the GB runner.
financial burden can get bigger quite fast, which increases the risk of another Ivan.
Please do let me (us) know if you need some more money for the case because of the deserters. I'm ready to put in some more money in case a higher MOQ is not reached now. No worries, thanks for sharing the problem openly. :)
I don't understand why you're so hesitant to put an actual GB post together on MM. It's not like reddit requires some higher level of effort, or that it attracts somehow worse people. It was a mistake, I think, just having it here and deskthority.
Now that you're needing more people, you're still only going to make the reddit post to show off 2 new builds? Just make a GB post with the new builds and all the current info. Use RES and it's literally copy/paste.
Hell, you could even ask people here (who have already volunteered...several times) to make a post over there. I just don't understand the resistance.
This thread is somewhat confusing, and I'd be interested in a WKL 60. What's the updated price point and ETA for these boards? Any more info would be great!

Whats the status for the YAS PCBs? Do you already have them in stock, did you already order them, or are you waiting until you received all payments? Do you have commitment from Yasin/Silentreader that he can deliver the amounts you need?

johngodsmith
-pineapple-
noobas4urus

Like I had stated before, hansichen is added for being the first who joined the GB and Zuology for his help here in the forum.
To all of them, congratulations and please let me know which version you'd like to have added.
I may have been one of the person you'd likely to convince with the SKB75 sample. Does it fit B.mini PCB from winkeyless? I'm also wondering if I can get the plate's SVG file if I joined for one.Hey, yes, that PCB will fit as well, like almost any other will. As long as you see your desired layout supported by one of the skb-plates, it will work. Since SKB is a top mount case, you don't need to care about screw hole positions in the PCB - they just aren't relevant.

SVG? So you wanna make a plate with your layout by using something like adobe illustrator? I don't feel good about this. SVG is for web, not for manufacturing and illustrator lacks the needed precision. If you don't want this to go wrong, please use CAD. Sure I'll give you a DXF file.
ELSE:
btw, last time I phoned the manufacturer about the status of the samples was thursday. at the time the parts were being bead blasted. got to be this week!
How about the USB cut out for B.mini?

At this rate, it's less than 1 per month. These samples were ordered beginning of July...
the samples (SKB75 and SKB60-WKL) are on the way. would be great if they would arrive before the weekend so I could finish everything at the weekend but not sure, maybe they will only arrive on monday.
UPDATE: BOARDWALK SUPPORT (SKB60-BW)
some time ago I was asked by one of you if I would consider offering a plate for a PCB that was then called the "Ergo60". Back then I declined because the project was already complex enough. Now that I have to make up for missing payments and after two more asked me about a plate for that PCB, I contacted shensmobile and I got his blessing to offer a SKB60-Boardwalk version as well.
How will this go down?
I won't support all the possible layout for the Boardwalk PCB since the plate wouldn't look nice. I'll offer not one but two different Boardwalk plates (the only way to avoid huge holes in the bottom row). If you already are a part of the SKB-GB and you want to switch to a SKB60-BW version or add one, please PM me. If you read this, want SKB60-BW but are not jet a participant in this GB, then please have a bit more patience. Once I post on reddit, I'll have new pictures ready and by then the google order form will have the SKB-BW versions included as well.
Here you can see how a Boardwalk version will look like:Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/i5sHQhx.png)
Here you can find more pictures including the plates:
https://imgur.com/a/7xaVgR5
If one or both of the plates get a minimum of ten orders, then they will happen.

UPDATE: SUPERMEGAFINAL SMAPLES ARRIVED
the samples (2x SKB60-WKL and 2x SKB75) arrived on friday. I spent the whole weekend modding switches and building the boards (including a ghetto mod, hint: bottom row of the 75% boards). Today I went out and found a nice spot where I took pictures. Sorry that the boards (especially to one with the tai hao caps) are quite dirty on the pictures. I hadn't noticed that before I went outside and at the spot I didn't had anything with me for cleaning.
Here is a little teaser before I'll create an imgur album with a lot more pictures:

Will have the reddit post ready in the coming days. Regarding this I came up with another way of throwing some more extra SKBs at you:
The two who will be the most helpful (answering questions for example) in the reddit thread will receive one extra SKB of their choice

I don't see any difference. What does this mod change?

I'm not seeing it on first glance either. Curious to hear what the "mod" is on the 75% bottom row! All I'm seeing is the 6u spacebar with 1.5u ctrl/alt and 1u windows key (75% tsangan?)

Yep, that's basically it. PCB and two switches had to be modded in order to get me that bottom row. The PCB is the KBD75 and that does only support [1.25U|1.25U|1.25U|6.25U...] or [1.5U|1.5U|7U...]. I'm generally not a big fan of all .25U steps and really like the bigger 1.5U mods but I also find the win-key very useful. So I had to file the holes in the PCB and mod the switches. No more pins down from the bottom of the switch but small wires escaping to the side, they got wired around the pcb and then soldered to the existing spots. Had to kill quite a lot of switches for that but it worked, I got what I wanted! The 6U spacebar was luckily already supported by the PCB.

I just realize for the 75%, the top left screw for the plate falls right on top of the usb port. Can we get an underside picture of the top piece with the plate screwed-in?
QuoteAny of the popular PCBs with the USB port on the left side will fit.
PCBs need to have USB port on left side, type irrelevant as long as it fits into the top left cutout window. Unsure if there's a limitation to if the port is top or bottom of PCB. I think back in the IC thread he says the cutout is fairly large to compensate for the different "popular" PCBs. The port cutout is directly under the top left corner screw, for reference if you want to math out the dimensions. These pics show it somewhat clearly.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/0STNFqt.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/dI9piMR.jpg)Show Image(https://imgur.com/5mV5vHN.jpg)Show Image(https://imgur.com/XuyZB9u.jpg)
- deleyCON mini USB (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00WHZ8KGW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

hey I just posted the GB on reddit.
I really hope this makes up for at least some of the missing ones.
hope I can get your help there.

Hey! Might I also suggest putting the post up on mechmarket too? You may get some more exposure to the project as people who are interested in purchases tend to go there.
Are we close? Did we get some from Reddit?

I think exactly ten now, not as much as I hoped but now I know I did all I could. Will have to make a decision on how many extras I will get, then place the order.

Ten is better than none, and when they arrive people will likely want in on the extras. :D

that's exactly what I'm thinking. when pictures of your builds will start popping up, some more will want one.
[...] I didn't had time to bring the Reddit GB post over to mechmarket jet, like some of you told me I should do so. I'll do that today (99% sure).
UPDATE:
Last week I've been going through the google spreadsheet which is the output from the google form. After filling out the form, many of you wanted to change stuff. I had to check all communication (PMs from Gh, Dt and Reddit as well as emails) and make sure everything is correct in the spreadsheet. I put together a script that was supposed to help me. Paypal can output a file for me with all emails of the paid SKB-invoices and the script just compared that against the emails in the form entries. Strangely the amount of unpaid invoices was still quite high according to the output of the script. When I went through the list of unpaid ones I quickly noticed some names that I know for sure had paid. What was wrong? Well some of you paid the invoice with a Paypal account that had a different email address than the one you put into the order form. That's why the script didn't find a match. So in the end I found myself going through the whole sheet manually. Man I can tell you this together with bringing the order sheet in line with all the changes discussed via PMs took me quite some time. Had to check again so many times cause whenever I did, I found another mistake.
Now the spreadsheet is error free (99% sure)!
Result:
When I started sending out invoices, 149 had entered the order form and as you know a lot (over 40) hadn't paid after the first month. Now after another month has passed and thanks to the reddit post, 144 have paid their invoice and this means I now have to decide on how many extras I will add and then I can ask for a quote for final production, then pay and by doing so kicking of the production.
Until then:
The order form will remain open so getting an SKB is still possible. Who fills out the form will get an invoice quickly. If I'm out of extras of a particular version, I'll just take it out of the form.
I didn't had time to bring the Reddit GB post over to mechmarket jet, like some of you told me I should do so. I'll do that today (99% sure).
That's good news. My takeaway from this is that we won't need to adjust order prices now that almost everyone has paid.
I understand that you're still taking new orders from Reddit for a bit. When can we expect production to begin?
I just realized, that crossposting is super simple on reddit, now on mechmarket as well:

UPDATE (order list):
I updated the order list. Everyone should please check if his order is correct. Even if you had checked already in one of the earlier lists, please check again.
The ones who won an extra SKB have theirs already added in the list.
I have given up on those who got their invoice long time ago but still haven't paid. This is luckily not a problem anymore, since the posting on reddit has indeed made up for them.
There are a few who signed up after the reddit announcement but haven't paid jet. That's ok, since they just joined recently. They are accounted for in the order quantity.
I decided to put only those into this list who have paid their invoice. I think this is a more sensitive way, than exposing the others. List will be updated when more have paid.
Again as searchable PDF, attached to this post.
Hey, mine is incorrect. I ordered an HHKB layout. Lazerbeamspewpew from Reddit.

Looks like I'm listed twice. Once as matthmattix and again as Matthmattix. Using either of those is fine, but I'm in for one HHKB. Thanks!
Are we still expecting these before January? My V2 Zilents should be here in December, so I'll only be lacking this case for my build! I'm getting more excited about this every day!
Is this group buy still running or did I miss it?
Is this group buy still running or did I miss it?
Well it's been running for over 6 months and and no order has been placed yet, so I am guessing it's still running.

I decided on the final production numbers on Thursday and submitted them on Friday. Now they need to give me the quote for that, so I can pay and get the ball rolling.
The numbers I submitted include a few extras (more of the popular versions, less of the not so popular ones). So it is like I told a few times already - if you want an SKB, just fill out the form. You'll receive an invoice the coming day. If I'm out of extras for a particular SKB version, then I'll take it out of the order form.
EDIT:
BTW, payment started in mid August, that is not six months ago (GB post, yes, long time ago; IC post veeery long ago). Generally, YES, everything seems to take longer than expected and I'm sure no one else than me wants this to be done sooner than later because this is exhausting/demanding/stressful for me.

Hi, just checked your updated order list, and I see that you have correctly registered me with a 65%, but I didn't see the extra plate mentioned anywhere. Tried emailing you, but haven't gotten any replies yet, so I thought I'd try here. I'm FonderPrism in the form.

Of course I answered you. We exchanged a few emails. Last, on 27.10.2018 I answered your this:
"Yes got it thanks a lot, I already corrected in my spreadsheet"
that was after the list you mention was uploaded (24.10.2018).
I am very sorry, somehow Google decided all your emails were spam..!

I like you! ;)
Just curious to hear if there's any early progress updates, but probably too soon since you just submitted full order last week, right? I'd be interested to see the manufacturing steps, from stock sheet/plate metal to cutting/stamping, to bending and blasting! I'm one of the weirdos who asked early enough on for a non-anodized kit, and am interested in seeing how it will actually look "raw".
No update jet.
I already called and mailed them so often when I was waiting for the first and later second batch of samples. Also the last quote took them quite a while. Back then I remember calling them a few times and be like: "do you have the quote for me?", "when will you have it?", "BUT I NEED THAT QUOTE ASAP!" I don't wanna do that anymore and it didn't help anyway. They are very busy, and the surface treatment for the aluminium parts is done by another company while the surface treatment of the plates by jet another. If they haven't sent me the quote by the end of next week I'll call them.
Small update:
Called them today,
nothing new jet. They are very busy, they said they probably need another week for the quote.
Meanwhile I'll start sourcing screws and packaging.

Does this affect the timeframe or is the plan still to ship in november?they need at least a month for production, so november is obviously not possible any more.
Just got a notice that my delayed Pulse is on the way to EU. I had this all timed and thought I would be screwed by a late shipping from SA, but no. Everything is on time but the case.funny - as I was reading this, my door bell rang and SA pulse got delivered.
Can you spread out the damage to the budget on the cases if needed? Starting to believe their quoting will suck.WHAT?! what damage? I ordered more cases now than the last quote. manufacturing more can only make it cheaper. there is no damage to spread out, where does that come from?!

Nice! Hopefully you enjoy the set. If you have some extra time snap a picture with Pulse on a SKB. Bet it will be a match made in heaven.
I just realize, that both the SKB75 sample builds I did need a 6U spacebar. SA from signature plastics don't have 6U spacebars - DAMN, I really wanted to see the PULSE set on the SKB75. Will have to put it onto the ANSI SKB60-WKL next week.
Possible to get some more pictures of the 60 WKL version? :)

The order is submitted of course.
When they told me how long it would take, I tried to negotiate it but it wasn't possible to get it done quicker.
We are at a time of the year that is not favorable for a production run. Approaching the end of the year, many factories shut down for some time. Our manufacturer has a lot in the pipeline and the parts will probably not be done before they shut down. Same for the company that does the anodizing they will empty their big basins for cleaning at the end of the year.
So the bad news is that I will get the finished parts in February.
Had really hoped it would be faster.

Some info for the GB participants - I was concerned about the lack of feedback and information from the GB organizer since there was no updates for quite a while and when I finally got a response regarding update it was questionable.
So I asked to provide me with the name of the company that does the metal work since my own project may help with production quota and I was planning to submit my order to the same manufacturer. Got another very questionable response from the GB organizer. Then he approached me personally and offered me a refund, which is not what I asked for. I asked more questions regarding handling this situation and in response GB organizer just decided to cancel my order, deleted one of my countries of residence from his ordering page and now refuses to send me a new invoice for my second address. Even though he sent me a refund this is not what I was asking him for or about. I consider this a coward move and response avoidance.
I know that GBs usually have unforeseen delays for various reasons and I'm okay with that, however I'm not okay with the fact that a simple information about the delay wasn't provided when it became available to the GB organizer. By the way his response was - "I'm aware of this unexpected timeframe since over a week now but I didn't had the balls to tell you right away. It really made my stomach ache".
Don't believe me? Check the other well known platform that starts with the "desk"

Hi, just realised... I'm not on this list. I was down for the SKB60 WKL, we converged over email and on GH PM!
hehe, I just had a fun idea.
before he was refunded, omikron was in for a SKB75.
before I ship everything, I'll make another raffle with this SKB75.
so thanks to him one more SKB75 will be given away :-*
Just checking in, February still the goal? Also an updated orders list was mentioned a few weeks back, would be great to let everyone verify their orders. :)

Yes, February is still the goal.
Here I attached the updated order list as pdf again.
If for some reason there are still some mistakes - no problem, there are still quite a few extras left from each version, so I can manage if I got something wrong.
Since there is not much for me to do now other then waiting, I'll keep it quiet for a while.
Also:
Some of you had asked me for a custom plate. I made quite a few already, some interesting ones, already three alps plates, for example. So if I haven't made this clear by now: If you want a custom plate, just pm me, let me know what you want and you'll get a DXF with your custom plate from me.
yep, I got you, you joined just very recently, so that's why I haven't moved your name to the spreadsheet that I made for public export. so don't worry, I got you, you paid your SKB75, all fine.
That's not hard at all. Being able to use some kind of dampeners like orings is part of the whole idea. Was already mentioned a while ago. here as well (https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?p=418090#p418090).

I don't know if this has been asked before. But can I use a usb-c pcb with this?
V2 zilents. I think the softer bottom out would work particularly well with the hard steel plate.
Okay, thanks!I don't know if this has been asked before. But can I use a usb-c pcb with this?
no problem, if you dig into this thread you'll find a post where I bought three common usb-c cables from amazon and tested them with the case in order to make sure there are no issues.

I am gonna do the new version of box navy combined with SA caps.

Do you just mean fixed stems, or are they reworked in other ways? If the latter, where can I find more info?

I'm a linear guy, so probably some lubed filmed vintage blacks, or retooled blacks, or even some Gateron blacks or yellows or clears if I managed to get a hotswap PCB.
Holy Pandas, call me saying out of jealousy cuz I missed the MD, are mostly and mainly a curiosity thing anyway.
My tactile holy grail, that the Holy Pandas and the Halo True want to mimic is Topre, something I'm typing on right now. The next thing close to Topre is SKCM browns before everyone is talking and making their own Holy Pandas, Outemu/Zeal/Gsus/KBDfans - I hope the mechanical switch market in 2019 won't be this boring in Q234.

Could anyone do a quick sanity check for me? I'm considering the KBD65 PCB from KBDfans (https://kbdfans.cn/products/kbd65-65-custom-mechanical-keyboard-pcb?variant=21778664357936), and as far as I see it should fit the SKB65. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

But your SKB will not have a blocker between ctrl and the arrow keys.
I naturally forgot about the whole blocker issue.
The 1.50, 1.50, 1, 1, 1 lower right might be possible as you said, but It's a bit hard to say with all the holes in that area. I'm going to gamble that it does support that, and in any case I can fall back to non-blocked 1.25, 1.25, 1, 1, 1.

any bluetooth pcb-s in 75% format in sight that could fit this case?

What are Bob's choices for a 75% PCB? Just the kbd75 or are there other options?
There are two other options, they are linked somewhere earlier in the thread and mentioned in the layout graphics.
I have a few of the KBD75 PCBs (USB-C version) here now. Wanted to add them as option to the order form for the extra cases I ordered. Just hadn't had time for it jet. So FYI, anyone who is interested in the SKB75, you can get the PCB from me as well. Also possible to add it to an order if someone hasn't already gotten it.
Hey, since there isn't much to do for me other then waiting atm, I became more passive regarding posting. Also I was very busy with non keyboard related life. I wanted to check the status of the cases last week, but I was just too busy. Next week I can hopefully bring some positive news. Now that I just checked back here I see quite a lot post I missed. Will take my time to go through them tomorrow. Oh, really nice that fiber-carb-plates!
Is the order form for the extra cases already up?
Is the order form for the extra cases already up?
I think you misunderstood something. There is no separate order for additional cases. That wouldn't make any sense. It was one big order, a few more cases than actually needed at the time. The additional ones are what I called "extra cases".
Oh wait, now I realize that I misread your question, sorry. But similar answer: There is no new/extra form. If you want one just fill out the form that is already linked. If I run out of a particular version (according to spreadsheet) I'll take it out of the form. Only the option to add a KBD75-PCB isn't in there jet, you could just pm me if wanted.
UPDATE: called them yesterday
...
negative aspect:
this is really a huge disappointment for me. finally getting them was a point of relief that I was very much looking forward to.
positive aspect:
yes, I think there is one. instead of just delivering what they've done so far, they realize something isn't OK and they redo it. I think they wouldn't want to risk having the parts bead blasted and anodized and then having to take some back. that would have been much worse for all.

this is really nice! was really curious how they would look like in carbon-fiber. thanks for showing!
the reason the cutouts for the stabs are bigger than usual is that with this shape it is possible to take the PCB mounted stabs out after all is soldered together. So if you solder and forgot to put them in, no problem with this. so now you also don't have to make sure they are perfectly modded before you put them in, no problem to perfect them later. that kind of cutout is only possible with a dedicated layout, not with a unified.
UPDATE: called them yesterday
let me keep it short:
another delay
why:
they messed up most of the bottom parts.
consequence:
order more of that sheet metal alloy. they only do that together when they order their standard stuff as well, so more wait. when they have redone the bottom parts, then all parts can go to bead blasting and anodizing after that.

can I do something now:
- thinking about raffling out one or two more cases to comfort you. not quite sure how much more I can afford to give away, will see later. maybe some of the protos can be raffled out as well.
- I haven't updated the start post for a while now, just too much other stuff to do atm and this thing has become a monster. hope to be able to bring it up to the latest in the coming weeks.
- I still have one SKB60-YAS proto of which I had only shown phone pics. was a rushed build and I wasn't happy with the switches I had used. it wasn't part of the latest outdoor photoshoot. it has been desoldered and gotten new switches since. will finde time to take nice pics of that build.
- will continue to make custom plates for you on pm request (still two or three in the pipeline)
in hindsight:
I should have contacted much more factories to get more quotes.
this is all a learning process for me.
UPDATE: called them yesterday
let me keep it short:
another delay

With these updates what would the new anticipated timeline and shipping date be?
@plastik, I wanna get some foam of some sort ready for the SKB. :) How thick do you think I could go? Just a piece from r3 to r1 in angel 8-10
What's the current status now? Have they started to work on the new bottom parts?
Getting itchy to build my SKB75.

in the front of the case there really isn't much space between the pcb and the bottom. that's only at the front edge ot the pcb. to the back of the case the space grows and at the rear end there is quite a lot of room under the pcb, especially if you choose to go with higher angles than 6°. I would suggest you go with a quite thick foam, like at least 3mm but just leave out the front area in the case where the pcb is very close to the bottom.
Your are sane!! :thumb:
But your SKB will not have a blocker between ctrl and the arrow keys.
Then maybe i have lost my sanity.. But it looks like it support a BR: 1.25, 1.25, 1.25, 6.25, 1.50, 1.50, 1, 1, 1.
I had noticed the new 65 from kbd fans as well and was very happy about it. the pictures look like there are quite a few holes right to space so I hope it supports 2x1.5U or 3x1U between space and arrows as well. I suggest to just mailto kbdfans, wei always answeres quickly, should be smple to find out.
btw what I like especially about the kbd65:
- switches in the correct orientation (not 180° rotated) therefore cherry caps don't collide with the top housing
- qmk
- not too much holes/options
Any possibility I can still get in on this gb?
Hey guys, OKAY, it's really hard but I have to inform you about another little delay of about two weeks. please read for yourself:
(Attachment Link)
for all who don't understand german, I asked last week if I can plan picking up the parts. the answer is basically that the parts are not finished at beadblasting and expected to be back around the 9th (yesterday) and will then be brought to anodizing which "normally takes around eight days". This would mean next week but that week is easter holiday so I would expect more like the week after that.
we are really close now, I CAN FEEL IT!
as reparation I want to raffle out two more cases. That would be three cases in total because one was already said to be raffled out but hasen't been jet. will apply to only the first 150 orders, all later are quite recent and haven't had to wait that long in comparison. will do the raffle once I have the cases.
bear with me guys!
oh damn, I had never expected it would drag out that long that I would feel the need to post screenshots of my communication.

Kinda off-topic but is anyone planning on doing a hotswap build for the SKB75? I'm trying to decide on a PCB cause I know not all of them are compatible with holtites. The only thing I'd really want is south-facing LED's so there's no interference with cherry profile keycaps.
I'm not a fan of hotswap with a plate-mounted setup in theory, since the switch pins' friction will be the only thing (collectively) holding the PCB in place with no mechanical fasteners.
I think this got discussed a while back in this thread, but not sure if anyone had direct experience with plate-mount hot-swap. The mechanical clips on the switches only attach to the plate, so security of the PCB staying in place (and issues like getting misaligned with movement, pulling from USB cable, stabilizers coming out of place) are all resting on how tight the holtites are, or in the case of Kailh hotswaps how strong the springs are in the sockets.
Only workaround I would think of (if using holtites like mentioned) is direct soldering a few strategically placed switches at corners/edges of the PCB where you want the flex to be minimal to "anchor" the PCB in place relative to the plate, and then hotswap the rest of the board.

I'm planning to build a hotswap SKB75, and I think Mill Max probably fit most of the switch pinholes on the KBD75 PCB.
For sure soldered on switches are the most solid building method. However, when a build is plate-mounted, especially with a case with top-mount or a sandwich-mount construction, I do not see super big cons of having a hotswappable PCB as the PCB itself is not anchored and the switches (for the alphanumeric keys) are held unusually tightly by the plate. The real cons will be at the mod-keys when the plate is designed to fit quite a few mod layout options and are not offering support to the mod switches.
Yeah that's what I was thinking too, the mod-keys are what worries me most. What we could also do is, custom order a single-layout plate and I feel like that'll be a lot better, in terms of support. I think Plastik offered to send the plate CAD files so it's definitely possible.

Plate CAD files would be super useful. I'm particularly interested in designing my own custom Boardwalk plate, since the boardwalk plate options basically have a super wide socket for all the different spacebar configurations.

FYI - I think the term for the sandwiched o-rings mount has been dubbed "burger mount" in other circles. I like the tasty name, but I am a fat american fwiw.

The cases arrived at the anodizing facility at 9th of april. Last week some questions came up regarding the propper attaching of the parts for when they immerse. We cleared that quickly, so no probleme there. Now I expect the parts to be finished this week!Excellent!!

here are peeks into two of many boxes I got so far. car was too small for all, will get the rest later or tomorrow.
can't really believe it myself that they are really finished!

Yes! Next step: don't sleep on Friday until all are packed (and do intl orders first :p)no, don't send mine too early as I am away for the whole next week x)
Creams, Linjars, BOX Pink or holy pandas?
Someone decide for me, quick!
now I have all of it!
damn, just a small box of of steel plates feels so much heavier than a big box with alu case parts.
happy with the NOT shiny plates.
I really have to get that Alps plate going now :DWould you be able to share with me the plate file? I would love to make an alps build!
Hey PlastikSchnittstelle, I've ordered a 60% hhkb layout but would like a standard 60%. Would I be able to get a swap?I really have to get that Alps plate going now :DWould you be able to share with me the plate file? I would love to make an alps build!

Great the see the boards have been delivered! I really have to get that Alps plate going now :D
Here you can see the three ALPS plates I did so far. I can't remember the details about those plates, but I'm sure the ones of you I did them for do know ;)
(Attachment Link)
The guys that these were made for are aware that they have to use 1.2mm instead of the standard 1.5mm.
For those who didn't notice jet, everybody taking part in this GB can just PM me if you want a DXF of your custom plate. I did quite a few so far. If there is one of you who asked me for one but hasen't gotten it jet, please just PM me again, I might have forgotten about one or two of you :-[

Waitasec... let's see if I understand this correctly. You take requests for the design of a (1.2mm) custom plate, to be fit into an SKB75 or an SKB60 case. You'll produce a DXF file that I can later send off to, say, laserboost, so they'll do the cutting, and send the plate back to me. I will then be able to mount the switches on the plate, handwire them to a controller and then get my totally custom 75% layout. Right?
If so, when this GB is done and you've taken proper rest, I'll be asking you to do a plate for me. If it should please you. :thumb:
Yeah, it's pretty damned unreasonable how reasonable and helpful PlastikSchnittstelle is! ;D
The sheer nerve of him to run this expansive GB with so many stock options AND offer help with files to make CUSTOM parts that don't benefit him at all, but help the buyers and users of his product!! ;D ;D
Next thing you know the jerk will be giving away free boards to people just because he's nice and generous!!! Oh wait... ;D ;D ;D
Will be moving at the end of next month. Any idea whether these start shipping and such before that?
I'm unable to see a fault.
UPDATE / Quality Control:
...However I'm not entirely happy with the bead blasting.
There are spots, where the bead blasting does not seem to be applied thoroughly enough to fully erase certain traces in the surface. I'm not sure if these traces which look like mini scratches have something to do with the "Walzrichtung" (not sure of the correct english translation) of the sheet metal or if they maybe stem from when you slide the top sheet from the stack in order to move it. Most of the time the bead blasting makes these traces disappear but there are spots where this is still visible. It is only noticeable in bright light and hard to explain with words, so I made some pictures.
...
Personally I don't really mind if it is my personal SKB but some of you might feel different about this, so that's why I'm addressing this now. After noticing it the first time this was a little shock to me, but overall I'm very pleased with the result and how all the other details (which had caused so much trouble before) turned out.
Please let me know what you think of this.
I can just barely see the areas where you pointed out concern, but I feel that these very faint and small areas of inconsistency in beadblast texture are not worth any stress. They are part of the industrial finish and look of the SKB, and contribute to it. I am very happy that you have this high of a standard with your project, but in my opinion, it's all good. Get sorting and send those boards out! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
UPDATE / Quality Control:look fine for me..
Over the last days I've been digging through the boxes whenever I had time to.
I'm happy with the edges, flanges, overall precision and the anodizing. However I'm not entirely happy with the bead blasting.

First build is the SKB65. It was done quickly because I could just put in the finished plate+pcb+switch stack from the very first prototype I ever built way back in 2017, shown at the mechanikon from that year. Picture "DSC_0900" and "DSC_0902" are the ones where you can see what I tried to explain:

Second and third builds are both SKB60-YAS. plate+pcb+switch stacks were also already finished, the plates are custom and don't have the black surface treatement, that's why you'll see the shiny steel between the caps. Both layouts are also possible with the YAS plate of course:

Finally some pictures of just a top part, focusing on surface areas that are fine:

Will there be a Round 2 or extras for this? I would love to grab one of these at some point, but missed out on the original group buy.
if there is a Round 2
Just make sure that you've QC'd all your cases and use some the extras to fulfill any from the regular GB before you sell them all. It can save a lot of headache having extras in case something gets lost in shipping or whatever.
Regarding additional orders:
Some ask if they can still get an SKB case. Like I had mentioned a few times already, "extras" don't mean there is any kind of additional production. I have simply ordered more cases that are currently ordered (a few of each version, more of then popular versions, less of the less popular ones). By "extras" I just refer to the jet unsold amount of SKBs.
So if you want one, please just fill out the order form (linked in the start post) and you'll get an invoice from me in the following days. If the particular version is out, I'll let you know.
My fault that I have to repeat this over and over, I should really put this on top of the GB thread in big bold letters.
As others mentioned already, I can't see anything alarming regarding bead blasting defects, maybe a few spots though could be dust as well?
Did you receive my PM regarding the address change?
If we got in on an HHKB model, is it too late to switch over to WKL? Apologies if you've answered this already.
If we got in on an HHKB model, is it too late to switch over to WKL? Apologies if you've answered this already.
ouh damn, HHKB SKBs I definately have enough overproduction but WKL not. Switching at this stage is generally a problem. I had set a deadline for version switching way back. Imagine I allow one to switch now, suddenly 20 more will ask and quickly I have negative version X and way too much version Y.
Let me check the numbers when I'm back in the office on monday, then I'll pm you.
Any estimate on when you are going to start shipping the cases?
UPDATE, continuing as planned:
OK, I wanted to wait for a good amount of feedback on this. I conclude that I proceed as planned - sorting, packing, shipping!
TBO, anything else would be nuts. I'm at a point where I can hardly justify to put more time and effort into this. Getting into a dispute about the bead blasting with the manufacturer might very well result in some kind of legal battle. So I'm really relieved all of you see it that way.
This weekend and next week I can't dedicate much time, but after that I'll be able to ramp up the effort again :)
Any estimate on when you are going to start shipping the cases?
- Standoffs M3x6mm (SW5,5) x 3000
- Standoffs M3x7mm (SW5,5) x 3000
- Screws M3x14 x 3000
These are the last missing pieces before I can finally start packing boxes. I ordered from China via Alibaba because I wasn't able to source the standoffs for a reasonable price here in Germany.
They were supposed to arrive on Tuesday / yesterday by TNT, but now they are stuck at customs. I really hope this won't take long! It feels like there is some kind of force that wants me to be cought up in this GB for ever >:D
All other parts like spacers, M3x8mm screws, M3x12mm screws, mothers, rubberfees are all here and ready. These were sourcable from Germany easily.

GUYS!
I'll be more than happy after all cases are shipped and everyone is happy. Another SKB round or version is very unlikely.
yes, don't worry, before I print out the shipping lable, an email goes out for address confirmation.
SchlόsselWeite
In this picture you see stuff that still needs to be done on the left. On the right you see three boxes that are filled with bags, those are already filled. I'm about 25% do with the accessories:
(Attachment Link)
After all the accessories are done, I can start wrapping cases and putting them into boxes together with the accessories. When that is done I'll send out the emails in order to confirm the addresses.
Please understand that I can't do this packing full time.
Little side note:
I ordered M3 standoffs with SW-5.5 but what I got is SW5. That's luckily not a problem for the build, SW-5.5 is just thicker that 5, but anyway this is a pretty ****ty thing.
Also pretty ****ty is that in the pack of 7mm standoffs in between I find some that are 6mm. So when packing the little bags I have to be extra careful to spot the ones with the wrong length.
SW stands for "SchlόsselWeite". Is there any way we can expedite the process by confirming our addresses? It may take some time for everyone to respond to you before you ship...
I don't really get how it's still possible to accept orders. Wouldn't it be better to focus on getting the first orders out and deal with extras after the GB?

Let me just show what I'm using atm. It is the standard SKB60 of which I had posted pics here (https://photos.app.goo.gl/hHeVzaFtoeCiJJpQ9). The box jade switches are the updated version but I still wasn't comfortable putting GMK caps onto them. I switched to super cheap and thin Tai Hao ABS double shots. It won't be a huge loss in case the stems break. No high-end DSLR pics, just phone and bad lighting to emphasizes the dirt this SKB has already collected. I know those pics are not sexy at all, but they are honest :)

... I'll go pack some boxes now ;)

I'll explaine it to you. I have gotten quite a few more cases than all of you have ordered (like mentioned a few times already). The reason for that is that I wanted to have some backup cases if some get lost on the way and that I can simply sell a few more. Selling the rest does not require me to do any sort of labor. all that happenes is someone fills out the order form and gets an invoice in return. of course this will be fullfilled after all others that have ordered before. I hope this explains why it is still possible to order.

Just learning about this (newbie on Geekhack) and put in an order for an SKB75 in hopes that there are any left available! Fantastic design and would love for this to be my first build.

Too lazy to read the thread? There has only been one production run, later orders are filled with extras. You may recieve it a little later depending on the order of fulfillment by PlastikSchnittstelle.
Getting anxious about getting this. All 3 of the GBs I am in right now (Dolch CR, Space65, and SKB65) are in this pack & ship phase for the last month now and its getting to my nerves!
These days I spend all my spare time with packing. In the start it turned out to be quite difficult. Went back to my spreadsheet in order to make a usefull print out just for packing. Before, I had different types of data spread over different sheets - data that I now need to be in one sheet. Now I know it is better to keep all the data in one sheet and if you need just some of it, you rather use a filter.
Will have to order more bubble wrap soon :)

Post office is going to hate you if you bring in 80 heavy boxes for postage. It's your process, do it however works best for you. But if it was me I'd probably try to divide it up into 3 or 4 smaller trips.
The tension is killing me!

Awesome sauce. I know you mentioned the KBD65 pcb fits, but does the dz65rgb also fit without any issues? This is the hotswap tada68 layout. thanks
Paying cheaper cuase you paid earlier is overrated. The whole point of this is to help something come to fruition, while getting something in return, not paying cheap IMHO.

the case is very roomy, in terms of fit there are no issues with any PCB. you also don't have to worry about screw hole positions like you would have to check if you'd buy a tray mount case. the SKB is top mount, so the screw holes in the PCB is something you don't need to bother about at all. You just need to make sure the layout you want is supported by the plate that comes with the SKB (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=95113.0) (all in the start post). the layout of the the DZ65RGB (https://config.qmk.fm/#/dztech/dz65rgb/LAYOUT_65_ansi) is supported, it is pretty standard 65% layout. I got this one (https://maartenwut.com/product/ta-65/), but it is not available at the moment. will build me another nice SKB65 with this when shipping is done :)
I know the purpose of a group buy. Mainly asked because I wanted to add an extra plate to my SKB75 but forgot to do so a year ago.

He is freely sharing plate files, and I am having a custom plate cut at some point. Depending on what others also do, there may be some easy ways to get in on a mini group order of plates.
Does anybody know the extra stock situation for this GB please ?

@PlastikSchnittstelle Could you confirm that you will be sending confirmation emails to everyone (including people who ordered extras) before you ship the packages out?
UPDATE, address change:
quite a few have contacted me because they moved and have a new address. I don't respond to all of these messages, but of course I'm aware. Before I'll put the shipping lables onto the packages, every single participant will get an email containing your order and address - that will be the last chance to make changes to the address.

Y'all are some lazy dudes..
On the note of 65% PCBs, anyone know a really available one with split space option? I've been looking around but most of them that support split space are run in limited gbs often for custom cases...

there are onley some days per week that I can dedicate for this. sometimes I can't do more than five packages a day. but the rest of this week looks good, I should be able to advance quicker. so far about 1/3 is packed. sorry this is taking so long.

KBD65 v2 (also used in KBD67 kit) PCB support split spacebars (2.25-1.25.2.75 or 2.75-1.25-2.25).

How long does the shipping usually take to get to US? I'll be moving to a new address early next month and I really wish I can get it by this month. It shouldn't be too long but I would set a cut off date and if it's not shipped by the. Ask him to update your address because he is alone and it seems to be a bit of a manual labor intensive process.

the plate for the SKB75 was specifically designed to support the split spacebar layout of the KBD75. at the time the KBD65 from KBDfans didn't exist jet, but the bottom row cutouts of the plate for the SKB65 is the exact same as the one from the SKB75 plate.
in short:
the plate of the SKB65 perfectly supports the split spacebar layouts which the KBD65 PCB offers.
Is it the KBD65 really compatible with SKB65? Because I see in kbdfans that it have a blocker blank space on the pcb
Is it the KBD65 really compatible with SKB65? Because I see in kbdfans that it have a blocker blank space on the pcb
well, not that particular layout, of course. the SKB65 has no blocker. but the KBD65 PCB supports many other common and less common (like split spacebar) bottom row layouts. the picture on the product page is just incomplete. just scroll down there and read the posts. or just google soome pictures of the PCB and you'll see. wait...

Hi OP, I sent you a pm days ago about address change. But haven't gotten anything from you since. I get that you're probably very busy lately, still I wish you've seen my pm already.
Do we need to reply to the email if there is nothing new to report ?
Can't wait :p
some additional questions came up. just know, that I can only answer via email in about 24h from now, due to the email limit I mentioned :(
more patience required - AGAIN :-[
and for general feedback:
most is just some more address changes and minor updates to the address, no major screwups.
I was wondering, for SKB75, what are the PCB options?

UPDATE / shipping preparationsIf I decide to order a SKB75, will that delay my first order or will you send it later in an another batch?
I just posted an update on reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/ci2iwt/gb_skbxx_update_shipping_preparation/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x), they need some attention too. Like written over there, I've done most of the address updating. Most replies I got were regarding the phone number. When uploading cvs data for shipping I'll run into trouble when the phone numbers include symbols like brackets, spaces or are just generally too long. That's why I tried formatting them by formula, which then resulted in some errors. I think the zeros at the start can generally be left away. Just all addresses at once via cvs will not work anyway, I have to split up per country and further buy amount of items/cases per box. Nothing about this whole thing is simple.
If I decide to order a SKB75, will that delay my first order or will you send it later in an another batch?
I'm guessing the shipping price goes up with it as well?If I decide to order a SKB75, will that delay my first order or will you send it later in an another batch?

not since you are in europe. the shipping you already paid for is up to 5kg.
Yes, I had that figured out already, but wasn't aware ot that in the beginning. I just never had to deal with spreadsheets before. If you got more disturbing hassle with excel, just let me know, I would be glad to help.

In Germany there is nothing like "shutdown" or "summer break". We know nothing but "work work" all the year.

Would love them for SKB60-WKL and SKB60-HHKB -- might consider having some made in alternate materials.

UPDATE: WE HAVE ENTERED THE SHIPPING PHASE
Over the last weeks I've done nothing but getting addresses right, uploaded some via csv and enter most manually for deutsche post and dhl shipping. Filling out all the info for customs wasn't done quickly either. After printing, I had to cut all the labels and then tried my best to make sure to attach them all to the right package. I'm pretty sure it's all correct.
Today I brought more than half of the packages to the post office. I think I can do the rest tomorrow.

received mine. I am a bit disappointed in the smoothness of the surface. It looks fine, but feels much too rough/raw.

I did adress this with the manufacturer, he convinced me that this is the expected result. sheetmetal comes in different kind of alloys compared to aluminium blocks for milling. I guess that might be why it feels different.

no offense to you, but to me it feels like a chalkboard. I expected it too have a slightly rougher texture based on the prototype pictures, but this is way too much to my taste. As I said: no offense; just my honest feedback. I understand the risks of a groupbuy, just wanted to voice my disappointment.

your're right, it's nececcary to address this if you think the result should be different.
but tbo, it bothers me a bit now, when I'm back from holiday, I'll address this with the manufacturer.
I just don't have any reference in sheetmetal that has a different feel or is more like how you describe. though I think one of the first prototypes, which were done in thicker sheet metal leaned a bit more towards smoother finish.
apart from that, make the build, I hope you'll be happy then!
I already mentioned in an edit of my earlier post, but aren't Lian Li cases also sheetmetal? They are super smooth. I do not expect this level of smoothness, but to me it proves that there is a way to source better suited aluminium sheets or process them better.

yes, I owned one of those once. but they are not bead blasted. I don't know what's the correct vocabulary for it. I think "polished" is wrong, but you can see that the surface there has like a "direction", it's a different kind of surface treatment before the andoizing. that's also cheaper compared to bead blasting. such a case bead blasted would cost quite a lot more, despite mass production.

Hmm so a different surface treatment could have been used to get a smoother result? Then I do not see why there is no way to adjust something with the beadblasting process to also get a smoother surface.

My Testbuild is done (first custom build), amd it just feels amazing - rock solid, looks sexy a f with Tai Hao black on black and the feeling is just amazing. I jused cheap chinese silent reds and it is by far the best typing experience I had on a MX board. Kudos for making this possible to Plastikschnittstelle - I bow my head, SIR!Pictures! Pictures!
received mine. I am a bit disappointed in the smoothness of the surface. It looks fine, but feels much too rough/raw.I did adress this with the manufacturer, he convinced me that this is the expected result. sheetmetal comes in different kind of alloys compared to aluminium blocks for milling. I guess that might be why it feels different.
Too bad I went for delivery at work, if I chose home I would have had it tomorrow, now itll be Monday :( ah well, its close! :)

Me too! Despite the delays during the group buy, I'm NOT READY! My PCB is ready but I need to get my plate made and prepare my switches :D
... Long spacers.
Just the ones that came with the kit :)... Long spacers.
Where did you source the long spacers from? I intend on doing a deeper recessed setup also, prefer to have the bottoms of keycaps hidden for modesty (no peeking up the skirts), and also makes tall SA slightly more reasonable.
Some -unbuild- YAS pictures. First thoughts;
- material surely is a lot rougher than Id thought. I dont mind, it makes the the keyboard very interesting imo.
- putting it together (although not soldered yet) was a fun process!
- its a lovely black!
- very light, not sure how much it would scratch but this could work as a travel board (just talking about weight, not size)

Thaaanks Plastik, everything is perfect  :-*
i think that the small clear area around the screw holes are hook marks where the case was held when placed in the anodising bath
Got mine today -Sydney Australia - Looks wicked !!!! Thank you so much!!
Just some feedback, If you ever make a version two could you make it thicker ? If its possible i would love to fee the weight to be super heavy. I know postage price might jump through the roof but would be ideal..
Another thing and sorry to sound silly but does any one have instructions to put it together ? I have 3 bags of screws all different sizes can some one please give me some schematics or drawings?
Other than that ITS PERFECT!!! THANK YOU
Just got mine yesterday (thank you so much!) and it's great. Question though, what is everyone using to clean the plates? Should I just use water and a gentle soap to get the oil from the cutting process (I assume that's where it came from) off of them? Any danger? Just wipe them down with a rag maybe?
Just picked up mine at the office Plastik, fantastic way to start off a Monday.
I'm loving what I see thus far and actually really like the finish. Anyone have any ideas for adding weight? I'm looking to add a slab of metal on the inside or something equivalent to make this an absolute unit on my desk.
Could finally go get the case at the post office today! Screwed it together first thing to check if everything is ok. And, well...
(Attachment Link)
It seems the bottom piece isn't perfectly flat. The front left (in the picture right) corner is 1.1mm higher than the other side. It's probably due to imperfect bends (screw holes are in the right place).
I should be able to work around it by just shimmying the rubber foot on that side by 1.1mm, so it's not that big of a deal. I just wanted to mention it, in case others have the same issue.
I'm still very much looking forward to this build!

Is this something that you can adjust by tensioning one side/screw more than the other to counteract the twist?

Nope
yes, I owned one of those once. but they are not bead blasted. I don't know what's the correct vocabulary for it. I think "polished" is wrong, but you can see that the surface there has like a "direction", it's a different kind of surface treatment before the andoizing. that's also cheaper compared to bead blasting. such a case bead blasted would cost quite a lot more, despite mass production.
here you can see what I mean with "direction":Show Image(https://static1.caseking.de/media/image/GEDN_003_01_blog.jpg)
Help! Upon assembling the case, it became self-aware and started eating the switches and my previous keyboard :eek:Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/pOOVmoH.jpg)
Joking aside, I really want to thank you PlastikSchnittstelle for this awesome piece of sheet...metal. When I was finished assembling it (really pleasant and satisfying assembly experience btw, finally got to use my Wera Werkzeug-Set) I felt like the German word "bombenfest" (albeit having a negative connotation) was really fitting, just judging by its look and feel. I love the mechanism to change the angle, it also kinda served me as a "Wartungsklappe" because I noticed how the board was pushed down a little too much when inserting the switches, so I could just remove the rear screws, granting me access to the bottom side of the board.
This is how the end result looks like (sorry for the ****ty camera, doesn't do the case justice):Show Image(https://imgur.com/m1LAvPX.jpg)Show Image(https://imgur.com/Rf73PuG.jpg)

As this is my first GB, the only negative thing is that I'm now probably spoiled by how smooth it all went and will have similar high expectations going forward with other GBs.
So... do you have any more cases left? :) After seeing the end result, I'd love to build a staggered 75% board now.
Cheers

If you're not concerned about it being the absolute prettiest on the inside, I've used self-adhesive wheel balancing weights with great success. You can light them up nice and tight and organized, or be super sloppy and not give a damn. I am anticipating putting down a layer of foam in between pcb and bottom of case/weights, also. https://www.amazon.com/Wheel-Weights/b?ie=UTF8&node=15706791
This looks perfect, thanks Zuology. Is the foam to eliminate ping? And do you have a recommended link for that as well?
Thanks Plastik - got mine! Lighter than expected by my brass plate makes up for it. White Alps handwire - enjoy:Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/EHI896P.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/1RvVeqA.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/HOELtfc.jpg)
and some anti vibration rubber on the standoffs.
Also, just FYI, I got mine (in Colorado) I think on Monday.
Mine came to California Monday. Not a final build but loving this design.
Using foam between the plate and PCB, outemu 2.2 silent and some anti vibration rubber on the standoffs.
Believe I used these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZXT21DX/
Sorry picture is garbage. Probably what I did was not ideal. Thinking I'll rebuild.
I've come to hear the o-rings on stand-offs method called "burger mount", also was what I was planning to do with shorter spacers and longer screws to compensate for the o-rings.
I'm also planning on a flexy leaf-spring cutout plate that may be interesting.
Mine should be here tomorrow. Am I correct in that you've included enough M3 standoffs to perform the burger mount out of the box?
Sounds fantastic. Did you add any dampening to the case or is this just as is?
I also have question about the YAS 62 PCB - maybe it is a silly one. Just unboxed mine and there is extra PCB material along the tops and bottoms of the PCB - are those meant to just be snapped off somehow? Otherwise at least the top one is in the way of the USB plug. I just want to make sure if there is a proper way to do that rather than ruining the PCB.
The design is absolutly beautiful, nails the industrial vibe like no lther board in the recent memory. would love to see another round or extras sale to get my hands one of those. Rly great job dude.
Where can I find the files to have a plate made up?
Has anyone been able to contact Plastik recently? My boards havent been shipped yet cause of defects so I was wondering if there were any updates but no luck so far.
Would it be possible to get design files for the plates?
Please use this email for further questions, rather than PM on Geekhack, Deskthority or Reddit. Having all communication for this GB in one place makes it easier for me.

He was talking about a (well-deserved) holiday before all the shipments went out, so he might be unavailable still. Not sure.
I'm back from holiday since the weekend. have to catch up with stuff before I dedicate time to the GB again, will answer requests still this week. though most who contacted me over the last three weeks I replied via phone and although I tried to force me to ignore GB - couldn't quite ;)

Any updates for the rest of the boards that haven't shipped?

Thanks for the update!Any updates for the rest of the boards that haven't shipped?
I had already contacted most of the remaining eleven participants who haven't gotten their case jet. The problem is that there were quite a few parts of different versions that were not OK. They have been sent back to the manufacturer and we are still in discussion about this. I hope to get them all replaced. I'm waiting to get an answer to this, by the end of next week. I will think of some kind of extra for the last ones of you.
Regarding the rest, I am quite surprised that there weren't many delivery problems. Just one package came back to me because the recipient forgot to pick it up, already resent. About four times I accidentally included the wrong plate, the right ones have already been sent out.

Anyone else having an issue with ISO ENTER switch on KBD75 Rev.2 PCB as switch is not snaped in place by 2 cutouts on the plate and rather sit on board itself? Should I proceed with soldering that as is or that can be a problem in the long run?
well there is no real problem just a question as every switch is being held by cutouts on plate except iso enter that does not grip on plate rather sit on board. Anyway soldered and working fine. My first "isoish" build, waiting for GMK Yugo :)
Ah, now I understand your question! Yes, I don't like if there are plates that are so generic that some switches are nearly not held by the plate. But in this case I don't care as the stabs (screw ins in my case) hold the key firmly in place. I don't see an issue with stability, but on the other hand the whole build does not feel very stiff.

How do you find that impacts the stability? Still waiting on GMK Nordeuk++ to come in before really working on mine, so I'm wondering if I should try to get a custom plate that remedies that or not?
Hey, just wondering how things were going.
I bought mine second hand but I'd be happy to fill out a feedback form.

Just a regular 75% pcb from winkeyless.kr with a custom plate. The plate has 4 extruding tab so that I could clamp lego into place.
Does anyone else have the problem that the bottom plate is slightly bent? The top left foot of mine doesn't touch the table, making the keyboard slightly wobbly. I tried bending the plate itself into shape but to no avail, it just doesn't move.

I have the same problem. If you use a desk mat you won't really notice it. The only time I did was when I threw my mat into the washer.
That sucks :/ mine is noticeable even on a deskmat.

Through a series of mistakes on my part (and lazyness), I just got mine properly finished this week.
The keycaps were ordered in 2017 so it's been a long process :D
Looking good! Still waiting for KAM Wraith myself.
Has any of you guys gone with the 'soft' standoffs as shown by Plastik earlier in the thread?
I'm wondering whether to give it a shot... Thankfully these can be changed even post-build but it's always worth asking!
