Whats the best way to remove key nubs?

Whats the best way to remove this nub?

A carpenter's chisel?
Small sharp knife?
Fine sandpaper followed by polishing paper? (I'd like to leave the key looking as normal as possible though) :)
Buy a normal D key? :)

I'd say buy replacement keys or leave them as is. If this is to allow a different layout, give the new home keys even bigger nubs so there is no confusion.

I suppose I could put at101w keys on here. I kind of like the light beige and font of the aek switches though. Maybe a bigger nub like you say. I'll have to buy more nubs from hoolean.

I'm still wondering if a delicate shaving operation couldnt whittle it down though. I do have a dremel :)  If i'm going to replace the keys anyway, I might give it a try to see what happens.

Thanks rippy! As far as the rubbing method, you mean just with your finger or something? (trying not to picture it really).

I'll try the chisel too. I might have to buy a thin chisel from home depot or something.

I wonder if my sharp penknife could cut it off if I cut "west to east" along the curve of the keytop.

Depends on how soft or brittle the plastic is, I guess. Hard to say if I would try a Dremel cutoff wheel, going very slowly, whether that gives more control than having to potentially exert high force with a knife.

1)  razor blade would do fine (number 11).
2) sharpened screwdriver (flathead)
3) unsharpened small screwdriver (flathead, eyeglass or jewelers)
4) round front flush cut nail clipper (pushed hard into the cap)
5) knife, just use the tip
6) heat up a pin, paperclip, thin metal rod and push it down
7) a file
8) sand paper
9) dremel or any small rotary type tool (almost any attachment would do it)
10) chisel small, large
11) make a chisel (use dremel to sharpen a piece of metal)
12) flush cutters
13) Drill a hole or twist a hole with an x-acto knife (number 11 blade)
14) try a tiny bit of acetone on it
15)....
.........sorry, I am really bored right now =P
Whatever you use there will be either some clean up still required and/or a small or large spot with a different texture. You could remedy this by changing the texture of the whole key (and most likely lose the letter printed) or selectively adding a small bit of texture back in.

I guess if I had to do this and had a very limited range of tools available, I would just use a sharp knife or x-acto and shave it down lightly and slowly.

A result of RD's son's experiments here.  I don't let my son play with my keyboard's nubs.

Yea he was having fun that day but when he came in the house and wanted one of the keys off my customizer I had to put a stop to it. Still think that the way the key melted looks kinda interesting.

Holy sh*t! What's the down-force on that thing? I would think driving that would make the back tires rub on the wheel-well.

btw I "solved" this by (as someone suggested above) sticking a much larger stick-on nub on the J and F keys... after doing that the smaller nubs on the D and K havent bothered me.

I tried attacking those small nubs with an xacto and etc, but they're so small that the knife kept slipping off it. Didnt want to take a chance of ruining the key.
