silly question regarding buying your own kit piece-by-piece
« on: Mon, 26 December 2022, 07:45:50 »
do you generally order the pcb and plate/etc from same supplier or is using a pcb from one supplier with a generic plate from another supplier actually not that uncommon?

thanks for not mind me asking this!

The plate needs to fit the case, the USB connector on the PCB needs to fit in the hole in the case (or use a separate PCB with an internal wire for the USB) and the case needs to not have mounting posts where there are switch contacts on the PCB.

The traditional DIY build was "Poker compatible" where the PCB screws to the bottom of the case and the plate screws in on the sides - mixing parts with this is common.

If you have something in mind post links and hopefully someone will know if it's compatible :)

thanks suicidal_orange and yeah I'm still slowly working through a 'plausible shopping list' here so might be a while longer (and maybe more questions?) before I finally put down a pre-shopping list on this forum :-)
