[IC] The NUM1 - Gummy O-ring BT Number Pad - 7/24/22 update

(1/5) > >>

Friendship:

Hello all! Long time listener, first time caller. I want to introduce to you a project I have been working on for about a year!

—-----------------------------------------------------

[ The NUM1 ]

A gummy o-ring mounted number pad with a Daughterboard, Bluetooth, alternative top mount, and Alps compatibility.

—-----------------------------------------------------

Prototype photos are of the V1 (pardon the dust)

—-----------------------------------------------------

[ The Inspiration ]

This was born from being disappointed in the lack of premium numpad options available at the time of initial design as well as age old instigating questions like "what if we slapped an o-ring into it?" and "what if we slapped bluetooth into it".

I was also influenced by one of my favorite kustoms the GHv2 by LZ.

The engraving and name was born from some cheeky wordplay of songs by one of my favorite artists Machinedrum. I binged his music throughout this design process and felt inclined to immortalize it within the design. His use of numbers in his song names also integrated well into the theme of the numpad.

NUM1: a play on 'Come1' off the album “Room(s)”
Only 1 Way 2 Numpad: a play on 'Only 1 Way 2 Know' off the album “Vapor City Archives”

I was made aware only somewhat recently that a fellow member of this community HineyBush designed the TKL ONE and the NUM ONE (I knew the TKL ONE but didnt know it had a numpad!). Given the name is nearly identical, I reached out to Hiney for permission to continue use of the NUM1 name for this project, He approved! :D Thanks Mr. Hiney!

—-----------------------------------------------------

[ The Layout ]

Applicable for both MX and Alps switches. Sorry no southpaw. Blue highlighted inner zones are the O-ring pedestals, outer zones are the top mount points

—-----------------------------------------------------

[ The Packaging ]

For low unit self run, I will likely stick with a foam lined corrugated box. However, if a vendor picks this up and the unit count can be upped, there is a possibility we could explore this wild Bionicle inspired design

—-----------------------------------------------------

[ The Group Buy information ]

Price: Estimated $225
Sale format: Raffle
Unit count: 21 units
Timeline: TBD pending V2 proto evaluation, hoping for late Q3 :D

—-----------------------------------------------------

[ The IC FORM ]

Please If you don't mind filling out the form below, it would mean alot to me

[ The V1 to V2 changes ]

A more comprehensive history of the design and changes can be found in my discord below but here are the main points

Increased total height of the pad 1.4mm to increase case bottom thickness for acoustic improvements to front row switches
Xonledge added for same reason as above
USB C cutout squared to accept lindy connectors
Oring sidewall relief cut depth increased to isolate impact force to just the oring pedistals
Removed long bumpons in favor of 3m dome bumpons for better acoustic isolation
Added battery bay and Bluetooth functionality
