Otherwise, all the levers of power are locked down for the duration.

It is effing time that Europe wakes up and realises that Trump is our enemy. That USA is a rogue nation, and already has been for almost a year.
In the summer of 2024, I spent a day at the Swedish parliament protesting against a bill that would allow US troops to get privileged access to Swedish military bases. We warned against Trump coming to power and about giving the US too much, but to no avail. "No, Trump will never win ... again, and the US will stay in NATO and be our friend forever...". The leading politicians did not listen to us at all. And here we are.
We are too dependent on US trade, and on US tech to run our society. But with the tariffs and the threats, there is no longer any reason to think that we have any obligations to the US in return. We need to become independent, to build "technical sovereignty", and to take our sensitive data out of the reach of US tech companies who are required to give that up to US government when asked. Perhaps that is an area where I could contribute, I dunno. I feel so insignificant.
