Yay 7bit added 60% mod kits. I saved about $30

I changed my order to:

HONEY/ALPHA/RED
HONEY/ALPHA
HONEY/SIXTY125BASE
HONEY/SIXTY125BASE/BLACK

and spacebars

Red alphas, white alphas, grey mods and black mods.
Now.. I hope I like the keys lol.

I am also not sure if SPH will work for me and I gambled by getting the R4, R5 and Penumbra.

The R4 came just a couple of days ago and they are beautiful.

I put them in both Poker (60%) and TKL and I liked them in TKL more.

Something about high profile and packing them into a 60% board that just doesn't look good.

Umm the SA Profile is meant for the larger layouts, 87 and 104 keyboards.  Try stuffing them into a 40% or 60% is like stuffing an elephant into a négligé, just not sexy at all.

I think it looks just fine on smaller boards.

Ok, thanks for that imagery. LOL! I think the sphericals look crowded on the smaller 'board, and just okay on the QFR. I'm in on Penumbra and R5, and these will be my first spherical sets, so, I hope I like them.

I wish too.. and so I bought it off someone else. I think there are bound to be people wanting to sell them, so watch out for the classifieds.

With new spherical sets coming out, it's possible people will sell their old sets.

I asked in the Simple Questions Simple Answers thread, but perhaps it wasn't so simple as I got no reply.  Are SA caps sufficiently different from OEM/DCS/Cherry that they require a learning curve in terms of typing accuracy/comfort?  I imagine they won't be as different as DSA, which was dramatically different, and I had a very difficult time with it (to the point where I sold my DSA Retro kit after a week of owning it).  But like, other than the height, would it be more or less straightforward to type on SA caps after a day or two?  In the standard SA layout that is--I imagine the 23 Commando layout will be a bit more like DSA with the flat profile in the center.

If you had a bad time with DSA, you will have trouble with SA.  I don't have much trouble, though.  I mis-type a few things at first, especially with my pinky, but I settle in to the different profiles pretty quickly.

I could send you a few SA caps if you like....can't be much help otherwise as I have not used them on a board yet.

Well, it's okay.  I'm giving DSA another shot with Hyper Fuse.  All of my keyboards (other than a Dell at work) will have spherical caps soon, so I suppose I'll just have to get used to them.  Was curious about SA as I hadn't tried it before.

I replied but it was a bit delayed since I was AFK for Thanksgiving. Seems like people who has tried/used SA are limited though since SA wasn't as popular as it seems to be now.

Ah nice, didn't notice that!  Your reply seems in line with what I expected.  I didn't have any trouble going back and forth between Cherry/DSC and OEM.  I can tell that they are different, but can type equally fast with no errors on both.  DSA was different, because I was stretching my fingers to where I was expecting to find a cap surface... but it wasn't there.  It was at a different angle and felt farther away.  Was definitely awkward in that sense and felt like a lot more of a hand workout.

Only thing I dislike is that aluminum custom keyboards are already tall enough at the front.  Add SA caps to them, and you get a proper typewriter :)  Time to plan for a better wrist rest!

SA keycaps are definitely tall, but I actually like the tall profile better than DSA short profile. DSA just seems flat to me, and like you described, my fingers reach for a key and it's not there, until I reach more.

I tried my SA set on my Filco with blacks on TypeRacer, and my speed was about the same as with DCS profile caps (~55WPM).

They are really dark brown. But you can tell they aren't black, depending on lighting, of course. :)

Would the Honeywell keys be compatible, profile wise, with the filco set? I think I read something on DT about the rows being different or something, but I can't find it. I just want the black mods mostly. Would they be good with the Honeywell alphas?

The new dark brown SA Filco set is made by SP too, and I'm guessing it will be the same profile as Honeywell, as both use SA's standard row layout.

Question:HONEY/BLACK/TKL is the same as the new Filco SPH, right? Looks like it.
Quote
7bit:No it is not. They use row 3 for most of the keys and row 2 for Function and number row. Also, they glue their stabiliser inserts into the keys, so they are not useful on keyboard that do not have Filco stablisers.

There is one more thing: Their text placement is off-center.

In other words: Just forget about them!
I found the post actually.. Here's what 7bit posted.

Damn those stab inserts is a killer for me

I gotta admit that the SPH profile takes some adjustment. The way the profile stands would have cause my fingers to know each other. Now I begin to see how it is not for everybody and perhaps a All row 3 would be better. Maybe 7bit will kill me. LOL.

Yes that "deadline" wasn't really a deadline.  It's organizedly disorganized!  Including a bunch of invoices and ever-changing prices :)  Not your usual group buy business.

After Round 4, 7bit would do well to stick to a deadline if he wants to earn back some trust.  Not only has Round 5 blown past the deadline, but kits continue to be added and prices adjusted.  It is now impossible to predict when the buy will close.

I bought my sets right before the 'deadline' and paid right away.  Then I got an email saying that I had $5 credit, "go buy more cap", so I picked up 5 additional singles.  Then I got an email that said "you're all square".  Then a week later I got an email saying "You owe $3.18"...  I think the exchange rate is also a factor in this.

I am not going to worry about it until everything is finished because I don't want to pay more and then have credit again...

I've yet to see anything that says I have credit, even though I paid a few dollars more than what the current total is.  It's confusing, because there are reports of people saying that they have some "credit".  Makes me wonder if my payment was registered at all, because I just get invoices with the total.  Up to five now (though I did swap 1 cap yesterday, so that'd be where the 5th one came from).

P.S.: the multiple pools of money as well as paying before the total becomes static is just silly in my opinion.  A lot of room for error.

Price increase for the numrow set is disappointing, but not surprising. I think a lot of people are going to be making changes.

just FYI

the new set HONEY/TENKLESS/GRAPHITE has been added

A quick preview:

It includes all the keys of HONEY/TENKLESS but in black and grey.

HURRY UP! because we have just few hours left and if we want to reach a decent pricing on that we have to increase the order count.

PS: remember to get the grey spacebars too!
