And how many years (months?) of service do you expect to get from it?

Last mouse was the Mx Master 2S a few months ago, so just shy of 60?

Not sure how long this one will last me, but my last mouse was a Deathadder that I'd been using for 6 years... I would have kept using it, too, if I didn't forget it in my old apartment when I moved.

I bought the only mouse I could try locally that was comfortable - a Steelseries gaming one for about £100.  The wheel soon started squeaking (it's not at the moment), the right button flap thing no longer clips down and around 1 in 3 boots it decides that holding left click should output repeated clicks instead meaning you do strange things when trying to drag or highlight text until you unplug and plug it back in.  It's also had an update showing in Windows update since day 1 but it always fails...

I was hoping this mouse would last many years as my previous ones did but it will be lucky to last 2 years before I get angry and land up smashing it.

On desktop I generally spend about $100 and expect the Omrons to last about 12-14 months, been that way for a long time, after 10 months I start watching for it. Last one I bought was a G900, it lasted 13 months before they failed. Luckily this one I could replace the Omrons without much trouble as opposed to the G700 which was a nightmare.

Laptop mice tend to last longer but mostly due to less use and less harsh operating conditions.

I got the MX Ergo. I bought it all with Best buy "points" so essentially free including price match. I expect it to last a long time. Plus does not matter. Logitech has an "unwritten" lifetime replacement I have used many times. This to me is the best thing I have ever used. Easily nicer than any mouse. I preferred it to high end palm trackballs too. It shall be forever in my opinion. Unless they introduce a better one in which case I will most likely get it. So long as it is better for me personally. This being because I always felt the MX518 sucked. I do miss hyperscroll but on the flipside, without it the scroll wheel tolerance is much tighter and does not rattle. Maybe not for everyone but this is end game for me as of now. As due to inaccuracy I do not find that to be an issue at all. I do not game. My registry is hacked to 26,000 DPI across 3 4K displays with heavy breaking acceleration and it is pixel accurate in Photoshop and Autocad for me. This was technically the best free thing I ever got. I say technically because obviously I spent many times it's price to get that many points. Nonetheless to me is was 100% worth it. YMMV.

I'm blown away by how quickly you all move through your mice. Are you all just looking for a refresh, or do your mice just wear out that fast?

I kill the switches that often.
Ironically, when I tried to abuse my moue less, it failed even faster @ 10 months.

The only real change has been that these days I wear out both left and right at the same time whereas it used to only be the left. I think this has to do with a shift from gaming being the abuser to a mix of gaming and CAD. I right click much more than I used to and the last three times they failed within a month or so of each other.

Good lord people. Your poor mice :(

I'm going to start a Twitter for 'Mice of Geekhack', highlighting the worn in, beaten up, and forgotten input devices that so often take bake seat to keyboards.

At least 10 years for both of my mice. I don't play intense games at all and even then i would be able to replace the switches.

I went from a Kensington Expert to an MX Master 2s. I needed a different mouse for graphic design and editing. I have not looked back. The 2S is amazing.

I got an Elcom "G-pro" Thumb ball on flash sale in Japan. This is end game for me. Never had anything this good. MX Ergo is good but this is a different level. I only paid $69USD. Supposedly the average "street" price in Japan Yen equivalent Is around $315USD and I can see why. For what I paid I am elated. In fact I would even pay the $315 plus the $100 shipping. Shipping was also only $12 in my case. If you think track balls are inaccurate you need to try this one. It has per pixel accuracy. I don't game but I imagine you would have no problem doing so with this. I am so relived(no pun intended) to not be using a mouse anymore and now a track ball that is actually good. This is superior in every way imaginable. YMMV though of course.

Got a Logitech Marathon m705 yesterday for just $35 CAD. My laptop's trackpad stopped working and I got tired of using a wired mouse at school (not very convenient and there's no space), so I got a wireless one. For the price it's great, fits my hand and grip pretty well, it's got 7 buttons and a infinite scroll wheel (although I don't really use that feature that often). I wish it wasn't so heavy, and the sensor didn't spin out so easily, but I'm only using it on my laptop, which I'm only using at school anyways, and this mouse wasn't designed for gaming, so I guess that's not that big of a deal. The scroll wheel is pretty rattly, but I guess that comes with the infinite and side scroll. Only real complaint is that you can't see what DPI you set the mouse, and you can't enter DPI values, instead you change between 10 pointer speeds that don't seem to increase linearly, and the left/right buttons are attached to the shell, and not separate. Overall though, for $35 I can't complain. Think it'll last me a good 5-10 years, unless it gets stolen.

I just spent about $60 on an MX Master.  I had been using the cheap Costco version of the Logitech M705, but I got an off-white Topre keyboard and wanted something to match.  I do love some of the features on the MX Master, and I hope this thing will last me a couple of years, or until it starts to get shiny and the paint wears off and I need something that looks new again.  ;D

No, definitely not. :)  Only the mouse was from Costco.  The keyboard was from eBay.

Logitec MX performance. About 60 EUR(ish) I believe. Must have been quite a few years ago now. Still serves me to this day.

Could do with a replacement right about now however.

Problem is the new MX line does not have the same button-layout, or even the same number of buttons compared to my current MX! Ive gotten so used to it!
