Help picking a plate
« on: Thu, 27 April 2017, 17:52:53 »
I'm looking into getting a removable switch top plate for my pok3r so I don't have to solder every time I want to swap springs and everything. I m thinking that I want just a plain black aluminum plate with switch top removal. I really don't really know what plate to choose but I want it to be ANSI only and black aluminum or some other metal. I was looking at sentraq.com and they have nice carbon fiber plates but I think that it looks ugly with the ISO compatibilit

Can anyone lead me in the right direction, I try my best to find useful information online before posting here but a lot of the time the stuff I find is outdated or just confusing to me. Thank you for all the help.

If you're patient enough to wait a couple of months, China is your friend.

I had my eyes on another plate from aliexpress. Had a lot of good reviews, just concerned about shipping damage. The nice thing about aliexpress is I can get a plate and a case with my 80 USD budget.

I'm fairly sure you won't have any issue. Mind that you need either Costar stabilizers and Costar inserts.

Actually, I'll probably get authentic cherry stabs cause in the past I've had issues with costar stabs getting stuck on thicker keycaps. and you know I like my keycaps T H I C C

SA keycaps usually need Costar inserts to be glued in, if mean those, otherwise you should need no workaround at all.

My issues aren't from the inserts not sticking but rather from the wire catching on the side of the keycaps

You're right, Costar stabilizers have this very limitation, they could be only used (effectively) if placed on the LED side of the switch.

I'll just stick with clipped authentic cherry stabs then

Sorry to bother but do you see any issues with what I plan on purchasing from aliexpress? I just want to make sure that I wont be missing anything for a plate/case swap. I have the tools and soldering/desoldering irons handy.

You're good to go. Those case and plate would match. Pok3r case and plate are de facto a standard, you can see the plate holes match the case mounting supports.

Sorry to bother
You don't.
