Teensy Question - Mini-B USB Extension/Adapter
« on: Wed, 09 October 2013, 08:57:45 »
Not sure where to ask this question, but it is for a keyboard build, so...

For people who have used a Teensy to modify a terminal keyboard (or lowpoly wired keyboard...) to use a detachable USB cable, which adapter have you used?

I purchased one of the Mini-B to Standard-B Panel Mount Adapter from PJRC, but I'm interested in using a Mini-B or Micro-B instead.  Has anyone ordered these, and if so, where did you source them?

I've found several links, like the one below, but prices are all over the map.  Any recommendations?

Would something like this work?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-USB-B-5pin-Male-to-Female-extension-adapter-cable-/270930517122

That would probably work, but I was hoping for a panel mount solution of some sort, for a clean appearance.  Maybe I could Dremel an opening in the case and glue the end of the cable flush with the exterior...

Failing that I guess I could just get a Mini-B to Standard-A cable, and make them USB keyboards - with fixed cables.  That's probably the cheapest solution, but I like all the custom sleeved cable options!

Doh I need to read better, I was thinking about you wanting panel mounting.

What about getting one of the small breakout boards like this and glue it in or something?

I'm looking for something more like the one below, but Mini-A/Micro-A on the panel mount end:

I have a Filco cable with one of these connectors on it.

That's a nice-looking connector!  I just find it appalling that the cable connector is as expensive as the entire Teensy.
