New to geekhack and the keyboad world
« on: Wed, 08 March 2017, 06:14:56 »
Hello!

My name is Jimmie and I'm from Sweden. I'm really new to the world of customizing keyboards. I used to have one of those OLD mechanical keyboards back in the early 90's and I really miss them. So it's time to build two new keyboards, one for work and one for home.

That brought me here, I hope I can get all the answers and help that I want here.

/Jimmie

Thanks,

Is this the correct place to ask? I'l make a small question here and move it to an other thread if its not ok. :)

I'm looking for a 88-keycaps keyboard, want a small one but I need those F1-F12 keys. I want a OK keyboard to start with that I can customize with my own caps and so on. Should be ISO (swedish) compatible.

Something like this one maybe: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/godspeed-custom-sa-keycap-set but maybe without the extra keys to the right :) Not 100% sure what I'm looking for, price and feel need to match.

Those are just keycaps, no board underneath. As for keyboards there's plenty of solid ten keyless boards out there, but iso support is kind of slim both in terms of cap sets and manufacturers. I do think you can get a Filco majestouch 2 in iso but I'm not sure. That's a good place to start though, Filco boards are supposed to be built pretty solidly.

Välkommen/welcome

You have some ISO/Swedish/Finnish Filco TKL k - boards here: http://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard/filco-majestouch-2-tenkeyless-nkr-mechanical-keyboards.asp

Another option would be a 75% like KBT (Vortex) Race II... Kinda a little more difficult to find custom keycaps for, but they cut down on space with almost the same amount of keys as a TKL... Here is a good link with a lot of different options listed. Some of them are not always available... https://www.massdrop.com/vote/Best-75-Mechanical-Keyboard?mode=guest_open

Edit: looks like most of them that are available online are not available in ISO format... not sure which ones are. You may have to be willing to build a Korean custom like winkeyless.kr b.mini.
