I have no SA sets yet, but I'm a big fan of this colourway, interested.

Is there interest in having symbolic arrow keys for the navigation cluster?
i.e.
(Attachment Link)

If so, would you prefer:
  • to replace the text navigation cluster (i.e. "UP,DOWN,RIGHT, LEFT")
  • included in addition to the text direction keys as part the base kit
  • as an optional add-on kit

Other colors?
My opinion:
- I don't think symbolic arrow keys should be the default because we are not using symbols on any of the other keys.
- I like the idea of having the option of getting symbolic arrow keys though.
- I think they should be an additional optional kit as not everyone will want them. (This may risk them not reaching moq).

My two cents anyway.

Agreed.  In general, I prefer symbolic arrows, but when a set is designed with all-text mods I prefer to keep that theme going. So I echo swill's thoughts on this one.

I would definitely prefer arrows over up down left right. I would put them both in the base kit. It's not really causing much additional bloat. I don't really get the point of having the extra Z Y keys either if you aren't going to have all the rest of keys needed for any of correct German, Swiss, Hungarian, Slovak, Czech, Serbian... it really serves no purpose.

I was trying to cover the differences that touched the gradient portion. The majority of the differences fall in the brown zone and includes keys not covered by any group buy. In most group buys the Y and Z can be swapped without consequence. but that is not the case with the gradient.

Maybe these should be part of the ISO kit...and possible add blue 1u <> key as well.

Actually a 30 or so key German/Serbian kit would be kind of sweet. Those 2 layout are most similar and have almost the same numrow if leave off the Alt Gr legends... then just the additional accented letters. I would buy that just to have something different that is usually not available in buys.
Otherwise, yeah putting them in the ISO kit makes more sense.

Interesting. I looked at the Wikipedia images of the layouts and did some searching and the German layout seems standardized, but I found a lot of variations for Serbian...some Latin, some Cyrillic. Some ISO, some ANSI. Assuming the ISO as shown in Wikipedia, I made up this sample...

Just want to say that I love how open you are to ideas. You are also super fast to show mockups and hash through ideas which is making this set $%#&@!% awesome.

I am guessing you will need to start a pmk vote soon to get this started as a GB?  Not sure how long that will take, but u suspect we can get through the vote stage pretty quickly with this epicness.

Thanks. I see this as a community effort, I'm just acting as coordinator.  Cheesy analogy follows: FingerPunch had the seed, Oobly and I planted it, and the GeekHack community helps nurture it as it grows. Hopefully soon we can all partake of its bounty.

Yes...very soon. I just wanted a few days for everyone to check my work. Also trying to time it so that if it goes to group buy quickly, there will be enough time for people to emerge from their holiday poverty and buy.

Yeah that looks cool. I think safe to go with the current ISO Latin based standard. If it's all uniform profile there is no need for 2  + *  keys.
If other people are even interested in German/Serbian, perhaps roll the GB ISO set in and have a trilingual ISO kit since they would need the ISO return and shift anyway.

I'll remove the extra + * key, thanks.
When you say roll the GB ISO in, do you mean have two ISO options: 1) GB ISO and 2) Trilingaul or just the Trilingual?

Yeah I mean just have one ISO kit with the ISO enter, shift, and the Britain, German and Serbian key all together. If people want the German/Serbian they would have to buy the ISO British set you already had anyway so...

That would make the relative small UK set much larger for what is probably a minority. Maybe it makes more sense to have two sets and duplicate those keys in each. That way the UK set would remain as it is, and the German/Serbian kit would have to stand on its own, demand wise.

BTW, I am toying with using a outline/ghost image in these partial sets to show what caps are offered. See the example below, is this a plus, or is it too much clutter? If its a plus, which one...with or without color?

Hopefully the teal/yellow/orange/red won't turn out too bright ... a bit of a darker tone would benefit the vintage style.

I'm probably in for at least a Base, Primary Gradient and a German ISO Kit.

Make it happen pls  :thumb:

Even though the interest check is on PMK, will you be doing the actual GB on there as well, or will you be organizing it on your own like the Rad Hard set? Just curious. I am definitely down for the Base Kit and Alternate Gradient. Right on!  :thumb:

Yes, it will be nice to have Melissa back, but Bob has done well. He always has been prompt in replying to my inquiries. Considering that he is probably covering Melissa's interface work has been in addition to his regular job,  I think Bob has done a great job covering.

I didn't even realize it was up already. I will vote once I get to a putter. I expect this will be quick to get to mass.

Sorry R5, another little buy is coming to bump you again. :)

Guess I will have to wait longer for my 3 R5 sets. Haha...  I don't mind.

IC on PMK already hit 100 votes!! That was faster than I expected.
I didn't even realize it was up already. I will vote once I get to a putter. I expect this will be quick to get to mass.

Sorry R5, another little buy is coming to bump you again. :)

Guess I will have to wait longer for my 3 R5 sets. Haha...  I don't mind.
FYI my SA Row 3 relegendables will be coming up right after the current Fallout set.

Very cool, SP needs all the support they can get these days. I look forward to certain key personnel returning to their post there so that productivity smooths out...know what I mean?

Yes, it will be nice to have Melissa back, but Bob has done well. He always has been prompt in replying to my inquiries. Considering that he is probably covering Melissa's interface work has been in addition to his regular job,  I think Bob has done a great job covering.
Actually, Melissa is working from home...

Bob is still doing some of her workload, else I wouldn't have responses indicating such.

I got an idea for a small change.

I want to use the ergodox kit with the german kit together.
Could you add a yellow "Z" 1U, the german umlauts in the cyan like color ("ö" in 1U, "ü" and "ä" in 1.5U), the "?ß" and "^" in 1,5U to the german set?

Else the colors wouldn't match for the german ergodox users. I know that "we" may be only a small amount of buyers, but it would be nice to have that beautiful set in it's full beauty and not with wrong spots ;)

There was a comment on PMK asking about JD40 and if it would work....

86029-0

Oh yeah!!

If I add a few caps to the Specialty set, the JD-40 can be populated using the base, gradient and specialty. Not sure about a 40% specific kit.

Is this what you mean?

As you said...the number of people looking for this is relatively small, so I'm not sure I want to add it to the German kit. Could possibly add it as its own kit, but I'm not sure it would tip. Feel free to change my mind  :D

Almost.... The "ö" is right, the "ä" and "ü" need to be 1,5U.
The rest is right.

Hmm, could you set the MOQ for that particular kit rather low? I know the price would get higher, but I'd rather like a higher price than a not tipping part and a uncomplete keyset  :'(

You corrected it while I was typing ;)

I guess another option would be to add the to the German kit and bump the Serb/Slav keys to their own kit.

If going to add DOX specific stuff... wouldn't it just make more sense to stick it in there? No one else would have any use for those.

The problem is....the US or UK Ergodoxer has no use for it either  ;D
I think internationalization is always a problem with those kits, but since engicoder made a special german/slavic kit (which I'm really happy about) I thought it might fit in there.
