g80-3000 keycaps
« on: Sun, 09 December 2012, 03:31:37 »
Hi,

Is there anyway to get g80-3000 keycaps? I want to change my layout from german to spanish and I can figure out how to get keycaps. I sent a mail to cherry and they don't sell keycaps. Other solution would be buying a spanish g81-3000 and change the keycaps, but this is an expensive solution.

Regards!

your best bet is to look on ebay for a used keyboard to take the caps off of might take some time but it would be the cheapest way

You can always post a WTB in our classifieds forum once you get up to 60 posts maybe someone will have a set to sell you :)

ES model G80/G81 pop up on European ebay occasionally for good price, under 30EUR. Just need to keep an eye out. I had a look and did'nt find any right now, but plenty of CH, PO, and RD which I have never see listed so many of at once.
Also, if you are not in a hurry to get something we plan on trying to offer ES layout doubleshots in upcoming group buy in the spring.

Thanks for the replies!

This is a really active forum. I'm not in hurry to get the keycaps. I'll wait to the groupbuy and will check periodically for used G80/g81 keyboards.

I am also very interested in the Spanish keyboard layout keycaps and I am also very interested in participate in a group buy.

But I have a question:

Are there other models Cherry keyboards that have keycaps compatible with MX switches?

Thank you very much.

How do you guys search for them on Ebay? I can't get wildcards to work in the search string to use O or SF in the end. Do you just scroll through all the g80 keyboards?

I think the only one with compatible keycaps is the g81-3000.

Is there any GB where I can buy keycaps for the g80-3000? Remember that they have an special profile so you cannot just buy cherry mx compatible keycaps.

At ebay I type "g81-3000 es" without luck :D

I look through ALL the Cherry keyboards. If you search too specific you are likely to miss something. Also don't forget to check other ebays, and always select worldwide :) look on taobao too.

I've never found one in Ebay.com, Ebay.de, Ebay.es (useless one), Ebay.co.uk ... you name it.

I found some sets on Taobao but in the pictures look beaten as hell and yellow and price isn't reasonable.

The funny part is that they where used in Spain and they appear on the BOE(Boletín Oficial del Estado) on 20th March and 21st March of 1990:

There could be some G80-2100 somewhere but good luck finding them...

I've seen a few 11900 and 3000 ES with white on black doubleshot not too long ago. But You can find lasered ones quite frequently, which is actually what I meant before sicne the OP didn't specify more than Cherry and ES layout.

O went directly with double-shots and forgot about lasered keys  ;D

Lasered keys are more common and some people have found them quite easy. I'm still looking for those Dye Sub Typewriters and may get one at least.

By the way I've sent you a PM in Deskthority, take a look.
