Post by: chyros on Sat, 23 April 2016, 13:07:22
Another new-in-box keyboard, this time with rare Aruz switches!

Hope you enjoy it! :)

Are they electrically compatible with ALPS too? Would be fun to solder these in a proper, sturdy keyboard.

No actually, the leg spacing is different - shame...

Awesome review, Chyros. The keycaps really are incredible looking. I've always really liked that classic "Cherry profile" design and lamented that it's not available in Alps... wish these boards were more commonly available; I'd love to have a set of those caps.  :p

Would you say these compare pretty favorably with SMKs? Not Alps, but definitely not an unpleasant typing sensation either.

I'd be interested in finding out the OEM of those keycaps. We need thick doouble-shot Alps keycaps.

I got one of these recently, just like yours! I loved the switches so much that I will be building a case for the board and use it!
Sad about the switches not being compatible with alps pcbs :/ Best clicky switches I've tried so far! although I haven't tried blue alps, so I don't have comparisson there :p

Personally I don't think they're quite as good, but they're definitely high tier switches, they're a delight to use :) .

Follow-up; the plot thickens! Now that I've removed the keycaps to send back to the original owner (like I said), I discovered a few weird things.

1) The plate has holes for Alps stabilisers, but the keycaps have Cherry stabiliser mounts. The keyboard doesn't actually use any of the stabiliser holes except for enter and space.
2) The enter key uses both rod and wire stabilisers.
3) The enter key uses a genuine white Alps switch of a fairly early make; it's one with a blue top housing and long white switchplate (but it does have a logo). When testing the bare switches next to each other, the Alps switch feels heavier than the Aruz ones.

Here's the board with the Focus set on it, as I said I would. As you can see it fits it pretty well, and the board now has the strange distinction of being better stabilised than it was originally as I have fully compatible stabilisers for it xD . I think it looks pretty good this way! :D

Those keycaps, I need to know who produced them.
