I'm about 8.5 hours of driving away. I do plan on heading over there some day to check out the factory, but for me to do that would be much less efficient than just sending it by mail.

Ok, so I love the plaque idea.  What should it say, and who can make it look nice in Photoshop or whatever?  A stab:

Over 70,000 keys ordered

Maybe throw the geekhack logo on the bottom, and/or "wanna switch?"  Maybe iMav's signature?  Anyone have any idea how to estimate how many keys we've collectively bought from SP?

Why not make it serve 2 purposes

1. Meet Melissa in person, and handover this gift
2. Take videos/Pictures on how the keys are made.

Im all for one of our resident graphics geeks to make a template...GET TO IT NAU!

once we have the template we just need to order the brass plate for ~40$ and tsangan could engrave it.

lets get the ball rolling!

Get her a $50 gift card to SP, then she'll realize she can't even get ONE custom key cap made with that much :D

If anything, she should be thinking what to give us, with the amount of business SP gets from us.

OK,   I've closely examined Ragorock's NyanCat set and Tsangan's Novelty key set (after Paypal finally got the money of that last abandoned buy) and you can send Melissa a plaque now.

But Raganorock still wants me to send a pic of the two down rainbow keys he sent by mistake.  That's not Melissa's fault.
I'm not sure what you mean by that, of course it isn't her fault. I was asking to see them so I can figure out how to fix it.

forget kerning: Should go with fixed-width. It'd match up well since both "geek" and "Hack" are 4 characters.

Mediocrity is 10 characters.
How is a raven like a writing desk? "B" is the first letter of "both".

If you want a keycap espousing the supposed mediocrity of SP, you should get it, but it's not something nice for Melissa: In fact, I think your proposition, if it is one, would make it likely that she doesn't deal with us again.

I want to get a "Kettle logic" one for ripster.

Sorry for going slightly off topic there.

It's not PICA.  I just put a link to it above... it's "Special Elite".  I made the logo, and that's what I used.  (Only because the previous logo had a kind of old typewriter look...)

How about you just send her a chunk of wood with all the keys they've screwed up over the years epoxied to it. "Never Forget" would be carved into the bottom. It would be cheap and serve as a reminder to them to get their act together. People could contribute all of their screwed up keycaps so that it would be from the whole community.

How does this sound?

SP messes up keys, it's true.  But Melissa herself is a total boss.  Dealing with our finicky needs probably takes up way more time than SP's regular corporate customers.

Okay, pried a little bit to see if this would work, and I think I found the right gift, because this is unacceptable:
Quote
I am actually using the wireless HP keyboard that came with my computer... Standard cheapo :)

I'm buying her a keyboard. The question is what, and what keyset/custom keys do we include on it. Obviously everyone is free to contribute to the project but don't feel obligated.

I'm thinking something full size, clean and simple like a Leopold with browns or blues. She probably needs the tenkey for work, and she didn't say noise was an issue, (though it could be and she just didn't say lol) but we don't want to get her a Realforce because then she can't make/use the keys they've made for us on it. I was then thinking we put some tasteful and clean keyset on it and give a few novelty keys with for her to put on where she wants. Thoughts? I have some unsold RA sets that I could give one to her, but it'd look cleaner on a white Filco or something, which would be more expensive.

What about a full size Rosewill with cherry mx browns.  I've got some hammer-sickle and alien novelty keycaps as well as an extra black on yellow "Geekhack" keycap if you want to throw them on the board for her.

Great idea Rag.  Needless to say, I am in.  A CCnG set would probably be hard to get, but they look fantastic on a full-size black keyboard.

I can donate a few of the various novelty keys we've had made.

I actually personally don't hate the rosewill logo. It reminds me of baseball shirts. I hate baseball though, so I don't know why I like being reminded of baseball shirts. weird. either way, yes, in this case removing that logo and putting on a geekhack one is a good idea.
