Latest Update: :

The IC is done now. Keycaps are available in the "ZOMG Imsto Dyesub Group Buy: KEYS FINALIZED" http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=37360.0. Go to the thread and order your heroes now, GB will be close 28th FEB 2013

DOTA 2 Keys: ($30 as a set, $3 individually)

Hi, I'm a big fan of Dota 2 and keyboard  :p I have asked Ragnorock to make a dyesub keycap set about Dota 2 in his "ZOMG Imsto Dyesub Group Buy" (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=37360.0) and here is his answer:

If you can come up with a concise set similar in size to the pac man and MLP sets, I'll run it. Basically pick the images you think would be best and send them to me. (High res pictures obviously)

I have about 60 pictures of heroes here http://s1178.beta.photobucket.com/user/bimgao/library/Dota%202 (took from Dota 2 community forum)

So we will make a poll to choose 5-10 in there. If it has more interests, we can make some more. You can post 5-10 the hero's names (on the description of picture) that you like here and I will sum up the poll in the end of day. (see the ranking at the end of this post)
This [IC] thread will be opened for 1-2 weeks
Hope that we can make this set come true :)
I'm just a fan of Dota 2 and want some of my favourite heroes appear on my keyboard. I do not get any profit from this GB. So please if you have same thought with me, order with me :)

Thanks

;) it's only an advertising trick, because he looks cool hehe
Actually I like those heroes which need skills to use such as clockwerk, puck, butcher, rubick, invoker, shadow demon, etc.

Cool, my favourite heroes: Pudge, Windrunner, Axe, Kunkka.

Definitely need to get a good pic of Windrunner on a cap! ;)

Why's it that no one likes Invoker...

Anyway, I worry that this interest check/GB may be too difficult considering that they're WAY too many heroes.

Perhaps it'll be better to ask IMSTO which of these could be done in advance?

Wouldn't it be horrible if the heroes we chose won't turn out "nice" after we've confirmed them :(?

I don't forsee Imsto saying any of these are impossible to do. It isn't like the amount of detail in those images is going to be fully represented on the keys, but they'll certainly look better than the adventure time keys would. For a good idea on what they'd look like, shrink the actual character part of the image (rather than all the white space too) down to about 62 pixels.

Edit: For example:

I'm a pretty solid support, my carry skills is meh. It's not so much the mechanics but more so decisions as to when to farm when to team fight and so on.

I'm a fan of basically any support and any hardlane heroes, but if possible I rather roam then stay in lane much more action pack

Naga only isn't fun if you give her tons of room to farm, if you ward properly and don't let her illusion farm the lane and she goes into the jungle then you should be good. Of course her ulti is no fun but that just comes down to positioning and knowing when to push for advantage and when not to over extend

I hate playing hard carry. It's so boring. I much prefer the role of mid (when not playing against a TA, because apparently the only thing pubs think mid is for is to gank and not deny a TA free farm to blink herp herp), or a ganker/support.

I like to ward, ward, ward, all the ru-uunes!

Aww I enjoy carry... Only on a few heroes though. I hate anti-mage but I love Traxex forever.  But disabling is my favourite thing to do, even though I'm not good at it.

I always play my Drow like a semi-support though, not always as a hard carry although she is good at doing just that. I enjoy saving people with frost arrows and silencing mother****ers and providing that oh so sweet extra damage with trueshot aura early on

speaking of old school,

Does anyone remember the days before N'aix's remake when he was the most imbalanced, hardest carry in the game? when he had a better version of skelly king's vampiric aura with a poison slow that went throw magic immunity, could infest a creep (was his q or something) and had magic immunity for like 10 seconds when lvl 16 (ult was avatar)?

THAT was oldschool.

Why doesnt anyone play old school heroes like viper anymore......

AM is pretty old school..

It's funny how I play a lot of AM games, but my W/L with him is only 30+%, the second most is Jugger, with 75% W/L. Other than Carry heroes, I love to play support WR and ogre magi. :)

speaking of old school,

Does anyone remember the days before N'aix's remake when he was the most imbalanced, hardest carry in the game? when he had a better version of skelly king's vampiric aura with a poison slow that went throw magic immunity, could infest a creep (was his q or something) and had magic immunity for like 10 seconds when lvl 16 (ult was avatar)?

THAT was oldschool.

Cheers,

Haha, yes.

More nostalgia: does anyone remember Ignis Fatuus?
No.. I remember there was a gambit.. Some kind of space marine. Insane invoker with 37thousand spells.

OMG I totally forgot about that! Those were the days where you could pool gold for items, and that made kotl the most OP farming hero ever because the major wisp could split push like no other...
(the major wisp could teleport anywhere on the map, and to wherever kotl was).

I remember 8 minute radiances on a spectre because of that.

I don't ever remember there being a gambit hero, that must have been before 2006. Yeah...the original invoker was so, so overpowered it really wasn't funny.  I remember when double vanguard was a standard build on axe because the item gave like a 60% chance to block 60 damage...

I would totally buy a whole 33 alphabetical set if we could get them with the right rows! However I remember seeing a big picture of keys that Ragnarock had that I think were all top row keys only. :(

Update ranking vote. Please help me tell your friends or your country's dota2 community about this IC

update

Nice mockups! I really like the colours on the WR one. But unfortunately some of the others are kinda hard to recognise at that size.

Thanks :) Just using paint to edit it. When finishing the exam, I will edit with PTS, it may look better

If only there were heroes who started with the letters X and Y we could get a whole alphabetical set!

Lol, your idea is same as my friend's. But will you join us if only 5-10 heroes are chosen? Post your choices

Actually, this IC is a part of this GB http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=37360.0
But if we have more interest, we can do it in separate GB.

Ohhh, okay.  I'll look into that then.  :)  Yeah, I prefer hard carry, but hahaha I know exactly what you mean.  All I know is...if my supports don't ward then...gg. lol It's sad sometimes I ward myself in pubs :/ which is def not a carry's job but oh well.  better than feeding.

Oh and I know about the ganks.  I think I look at my mini-map just as much if not more than my actual screen.  Anytime there is more than one missing, I back up.

Is that what, 5 for Traxex right? :D hehehe I really want her to get produced.  I will gladly pay for that.

I like the 2nd picture, but I think the original one looks dope.  Remember though, that the lines won't be as smooth on the keycap since we only have about I believe 64x64 pixels or something? Something rather low.  So any fine details wouldn't show very well, fyi.

Good question.  I was wondering the same thing.  I believe he'll probably do price per key, perhaps a little cheaper if we add more?  I figure there shouldn't be a real max since the more we can commit to the more everyone gets it for cheaper anyway.  I hope.

But, he isn't going to produce every single Dota hero.  I think it's going to be from 5-10 heroes and we can choose from there, not sure how pricing will be, but probably start at certain price per key and may go down as you add more.

I think the ideal size for this set since there are so many heroes is 12, 13, or 16. Enough to fill most of or all of the top row. Simply stated, its $3 a key individually, but it'll be more like $2.50 or less per key for this set.

I'm probably not in for the entire set to fill the top row, and only use whoever I'm playing the most as my F1 and keep a few extra around for fun, but let's try to get as many as we can. According to the votes, can we all agree on:

Traxex
CM
Invoker
Wind Runner
Bounty
Morph
Pudge
Juggernaut
Sand King
Anti Mage
Tide Hunter
Lina
Kunkka
Shadow Fiend

And then two more? COURIER?!?!?

I will be getting Drow, BH, CM, Lina, Morph, Invoker, and of course the courier if we can.

Hey all,

I'vnt read through the whole thread, so this may have already been discussed or not.

Have you thought about caps for items also?

Don't get me wrong I love this idea of heroes, but wouldn't items be as easy to visualise and more applicable? (ofc you won't be playing the same hero/items every game but just a suggestion)

Personally, I don't really want a whole set.  I can't justify paying $40+ for a whole set of keys when I know I'm only going to use 4 on my top F1 row.  I mean sure, I could collect it, but half of those guys I don't really pay.  Either way works though, although I think the set idea may end up being cheaper.  We'll just have to see.

Okay well unless anyone objects we'll go ahead and offer them separately then. For Imsto's sake please don't just order 1 of ___ champion. I'll drop the least popular ones if they get almost no orders.

If you guys want to set up a poll you can or I'll just run with the list Sifo posted and post those up.

You should! She's a lot of fun, but squishy, and she's tough at early game.  Also, good luck on getting last hits early game, animation takes very long.  But yeah, great character, just no solid escape, so never get caught out of position.  But her slow is really intense lol. Anyways!

Ragnarok

I don't mind, depending how much the set costs too.  I don't want to change the whole opinion and set up of things incase others wanted the full set, since I don't mind collecting them anyway (and trading later maybe :) )

Plus, $40 for a set of custom keys is not that bad, just prefer a couple of heroes.

Also, +1 for the TP and Courier key.  That would actually be dope.

By the way,

Anyone check Feng's new Dota 2 key? SWEEEET :)

Frost arrows early is debatable early game.  If the enemy is too harassing or too buff in general, better to get precision aura to help team mates and get better last hits and farm.  Plus early game 11% slow is negligible.  Its that 60% that gets you kills.  Silence is a must early game as well, for gank assistance.  If you have all melees though, frost arrow is better.  All depends if you have a lot of ranged on your team too.

Oh and if you are an oldschool Dota fan, she was way more well known as Traxex, not drow.

I don't get why she's played so much. The buffs did nothing to remedy what made her so bad before: low hp, low armor, no escape mechanism. They buffed what made her good: OK dps, increased the slow. But honestly, clinkz does DOUBLE her dps at all points in the game once he has his ultimate (strafe active) and equal when strafe isn't active. (they are roughly equal between 1-6 as well).

Getting her aura early is bad because you're forcing your other lanes to push, especially the mid and hard lane (unless you don't keep it active, at which point it's a waste at lvl 1). IMO, she's still a terribad pick that will not see any competitive play as long as clinkz is in the pool. And if you can Dendi pudge...yeah it's just bad for trax.

Drow is so boring to play, I don't know why people love her so much. Right click and right click and right click...

And yeah, I almost always pick Pudge when I see a Drow on the other team. People love to stand and auto-attack - easiest hooks.

My signature hasn't changed since 2012. I should really update it.

Agree, but It could be fun if you get "mad of madness" and "armlet of mordiggian" for her. And I always pick Rubick when I see someone pick Pudge on the other team :P :P

Also, +1 for the TP and Courier key.  That would actually be dope.

1 more thing my mistake, we have no "Kunkka" pic and got "Lich" pic, just edit the ranking :P

TP scroll
Courier (generic)
Blink dagger

I personalke ly think it's skill being wasted. There are better hard carries that with equal amounts of farm are far more 1A than drow. No matter how fat drow is, almost never could she 1v5 like a super fat n'aix or tiny.

True, it's kinda of a bad hard carry hero, no escape mechanism, not much nuking skills.

Yes, all that you said is true.  However, Drow's auto attack slow is what makes her godlike, and plus her silence is one of the longest in the game (6 seconds) only second to doombringer.  Trust me, if the other team has tons of nukers, it can change a battle.  Plus, after frost arrow is maxed out, rarely any hero can get away. I've killed fully sped up night stalkers before.

Also, she has so much damn damage, and she can farm like a thug.

I think the only reason why drow would be viable would be her aura. The amount of push with that is just insane.

Personally drow is pretty damn weak.. If you've got something like mag/bat rider/ sven in the other team drow is just free frag.

As good as frost arrow is, it has almost no value in teamfights(unless you're winning and chasing a hero down).

For me, generally, Drow is a very good and fun hero to play with, whoever plays Drow with just auto attack and farming is just... bad, but all in all, it's a bad carry hero, compare to others available.

Sifo! I love how you put Traxex on top. <3

I should start playing Traxex. :p

Drow is fun to play because she is broken as all hell right now, haha. Two weeks ago she was coming up on a 70% win rate and she's still up around 60%. This is combined with her currently being the most played hero in the game, even more than Pudge. Pudge was the most played hero by almost 2x before the last major balance patch.

A sample size that large with so many noobs doing well with her says all you need to know. :)

Her passive giving 100 damage to ranged creeps, not to mention all the ranged heroes that also benefit, plus the 80 AGI she gets herself is completely absurd.

She's getting nerfed HARD. :D

In all seriousness, she's still way too squishy and weak throughout the game.  The frost arrow is great if you are ganking people too, helps out a lot.  And yeah, her aura is godlike.  Combined with her ulti its just insane.

I dont know if she's going to get nerfed, she's still not as good as many other late game heroes.

She's not in CM right now...that's why she isn't picked competitively.

Her stats are so broken is because she's played so much in every level of play. That's why Centaurs stats are out of control too. She's still what I consider "****" tier of a hero. The problem with drow is you can do things like aura bomb with Visage (which is the most overpowered thing i've ever experienced in a game of dota. ever.). Try it. Her aura buffs familiars. You can destroy people so hard with it.

I know about the second part you're talking about I completely agree. When did they take her out of CM I saw her not too long ago? And let's just say it didn't work out well at all... Drow is too much of a liability early game JUST to have her aura worthwhile in mid or late game. It's powerful as hell though.

AFAIK she hasn't been in since the last major patch. Same as with Silencer and Centaur since the reworks. Yes. She's totally a liability with below to average DPS throughout the entirety of the game really (from a pure statistical view).

BUT if you somehow make it late...it becomes very hard to do anything because of how fast and hard your lanes get pushed.

I revived myself just to say that I'd likely be interested in caps. Good to say some people in GH like to DOTA.

I'm down for roughly 5, maybe more depending on the price. Interested in Invoker, QoP, SF, Puck, Pudge, and maybe WR.

BTW, can any of the veterans fill me in on what's happened in GH lately?

Really want a courier one

I can tell if you created a GH account just so you could post your vote in this thread xD

Well welcome to GeekHack by the way, and yes a courier keycap would be awesome ^_^

Was directed here after I seen a thread on the dota 2 sub reddit

I see, I see. Well again welcome to GeekHack, and hopefully you stay longer than just to get in this group buy ^_^
Also just another question: who do you play most often in Dota 2?

Umm, probably at a premium, but I dunno, haven't even considered that as an option. I know that some users want imsto's thick pbts, but you can get those at any time direct from him. This group buy is unique in that it uses SP blanks that we can print anything on them.

I'd also really prefer not to do that since A) I'm sure a bunch of people would want to do that and I don't want to keep track of that many variations in addition to the massive amount of keys we're already doing... and B) At the moment we aren't even near the limit of keys made.

Which legends did you have in mind. I mean any of these images imsto will be able to print at any time after, so you could order them direct from him after the images go in etc.

Hmm yeah true. I might just order separately then, I was originally interested in these but now I have a white imsto set.

I just feel bad because I've voted already and have been trying hard to get this thing rolling as well (and balance discussions :P)

Well I don't see why it wouldn't hurt to get in on these while you can. The fact that this will probably be a 1 off, with future versions being done in imsto thicks, means you'd at least be able to resell at a premium down the road if you're not happy with them. If you hold them for 6 months I bet you'd be able to triple your investment.

Really, favorite hero pre-nerf was lycan/morphling for carry, Dazzle gets my all around love. Recently if my team has a drow i will play as visage for complete and utter pushing power. Favorite hero to watch played professionally is dark seer and favorite jungler is queen of pain
(Xender) and size probably matters

Oh, yeah I think he'll get that list together hopefully this weekend or the next?  Not too sure, I'm sure he'll keep us posted.

count me in!! thanks so much

Hahah he will, but take a look at my last post above.  He obviously can't produce every hero, so we're voting on top 4-5 heroes and possibly TP and/or courier, but we never know.  (I'm using keypop's chokobo key for mine lol).

So choose about 4-5 heroes and I'm sure OP will take a look at it and add it to the list.

P.S.  Add Traxex (Drow Ranger) :)

Okay so here's the semi-final list.

The following designs will be included in the Imsto Dyesub Group Buy, located here:
http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=37360.0

-Windrunner
-Drow Ranger (Traxex)
-Crystal Maiden (Rylai)
-Shadow Fiend (Nevermore)
-Bounty Hunter
-Butcher
-Invoker
-Morphling
-Sand King

That makes 9 total. Not exactly the ideal size for most keysets but a decent selection.

The following group all got 3 votes, which is enough that I want to offer some of them but not all. What we're going to do now, is vote among the following. If you've voted previously, you can again, but it'd probably be best if you only vote if you're considering dropping the $3 on one of these keys.

-Tidehunter
-Juggernaut (Yunero)
-Lina
-Clockwerk
-Anti Mage
-Puck (Faerie Dragon)
-Sven
-Queen of Pain

Not really going to bother with a google form or anything, just post a reply with your pick and the top 3 will make a potential set of 12, though they will be available individually. I may also offer a set of all 12 for $30 if that interests anyone.

Voting will close Dec 27th. Look for the Imsto GB thread to be updated then and an announcement made here.

and she still has the highest win rate in pubs for this patch

it's global for heroes, and 900 aoe for creeps, before it was beyond retarded, now it's still OP

before if you mount mid lane your two side lanes will push in it self and you can just slow push, or on the other hand they want to push high ground you just wait for your side lanes to push out on its own

sure that is gone now but still so much damage out of hero global aura still right now ;<

That's a bummer, that I missed out on the voting. I would have thrown in a vote for clockwerk, Visage and SD. I always thought visage was the coolest "looking" hero (and very underappreciated) in dota 2. He's actually my desktop wallpaper. (Link as the image is frickin huge)
