[IC] GMK Lux | LIVE!
« on: Sat, 14 December 2019, 08:17:08 »

Inspired by luxury items (y la abeja Maya), GMK Lux is a refined black and gold set that was originally pitched by BeamingRobot and picked up by Zambumon in 2018.

Timeline

- Orders will open on May 12th, 2020, and will close on June 7th, 2020.
- Estimated shipping date: Q1 2021 (on or before March 28th, 2021)

Where

Asia - ILUMKB
Canada - Deskhero
Europe - Oblotzky Industries
Oceania -  Daily Clack
USA - TX Keyboards

Proposed Kits

Lux features a large Core kit, which provides layout coverage for standard and winkeyless full-size, 1800, TKL, 75%, 65%, FC660-like layouts, or 60% keyboards. Some notable inclusions are 1.00u, 1.25u, and 1.50u Lux keys; accent Esc, Enter, and Arrows; convex 2.00u, 2.25u, and 2.75u keys and second B for ergonomic keyboards such as the TGR Alice, or AI03 Meridian. The kit also features UK-ISO layout support as well as a second Tab key so you can reuse some of the modifiers if needed.

Additionally, we are also offering a space bar kit that extends Lux’s layout support by including two 6.00u spacebars, allowing us to cover HHKBs, Gok’s 7V, and Cherry G80-1800 keyboards. The kit also includes accent space bars for standard and split keyboards.

Q: Why does the core kit include X but not Y?
A: Because I thought that including X was more preferential than including Y.

Q: I don't like the Lux keycaps.
A: That's not a question. I like them, and they are not going away.

Q: Icon mods?
A: No.

Q: [Sublegends] kit? [Alternate alphas] kit?
A: No and no. Let's keep it simple and easy.

Q: Why Alice layout coverage on the base kit?
A: Because there's like 12 clones of that board on the IC stage and it's just a B. The split space bars can also be used by other keyboards.

Q: Colemak, Ergodox, Norde?
A: No.

Q: Forties kit?
A: No.

Q: Why two tabs instead of X?
A: It's a chunky base kit, and this would allow you to reuse the leftover mods.

Specs

- Made in Germany by GMK electronic design GmbH
- Cherry profile (1-1-2-3-4-4)
- Compatible with MX style switches
- 1.5mm thick double-shot ABS plastic

Disclaimers

Kindly note that the images are of 3D renders and are for illustration purposes only. The final colors may differ slightly.

Keyboards are shown for demonstrative purposes only and are not included with the purchase of these keycaps.

Very interested in this set, but gold-colored plastic often looks pretty bad when attempted (see gold-colored Gundam models). Could you elaborate more on the color you will be using?

Glad to see some movement on this set! I realize its hard to use plastic to represent a metallic color, but I hope these look as close to gold or brass as possible...

Alice support in the Base Kit: Yes
Simple kitting: Yes
Lux: Yes

Unlikely, but any chance of accent colored alphas? This would allow us to reuse the leftover mods like you envisioned in the Q&A too.

Would be in nonetheless. Thanks for picking this up @Zambumon!

Q: Forties kit? Minivan?
A: Possible, but unlikely. No.

I'm really loving this. However, I'm an ortho guy. I understand not every set can have an ortho kit; I can get creative. I use a Preonic - with SkIIdata I used numpad "-" for Backspace, End for R2 Tab (there was an R3 Tab that I put on R3).

My point is, the (only) two caps I would really need for the board not to look too weird are R4 1u Enter (yellow, please) and R4 1u Shift. Is there any chance these two keys could be added? I get it that this might not work for every ortho user, but I think it would be better than nothing.

Dear fellow ortho users, what do you think?

I think there's too many "you're different, GTFO" vibes for me. Z's of course entitled to his opinion and reasons, but adding 2 or so keys to sorta kinda make it work is not something I'm interested in. GL with the IC/GB, Z.

Yes, but that's only because everyone here was following the original lux for a reason. Now that Zambs has almost changed it up entirely, is it any wonder that people are lamenting that fact?

Been waiting for this set! I am hoping that the accent is more of a gold instead of a yellow or the word gold to describe it really shouldn't be used. The legend colors of GMK Red Sam are to me clearly gold and would love to see the accent and legend color be closer to that. And just throwing my name in the hat for a 40's kit :)

UK ISO and split spacebars in the base kit make this a must for me. I also like the fact that it's not as black as GMK's CR colour.

Dear fellow ortho users, what do you think?

Initially with the first IC I was 100% in a few months back, but this point brings a lot to the table for comparability for boards I've been using as of late. Please consider!

Also please consider bringing back red  ;D I personally think the gold accent keys is just way too much yellow. If we are trying to sell the set as being gold there needs to be as little yellow surface area as possible. I don't really understand what was more important than the red accents, it feels like you sacrificed theming/colors for compatibility which IMO are two completely different areas of a design to be adjusting simultaneously.

So the black isn’t black but dark grey / not really black. Any idea if it’s comparable to epbt “black”? Since that’s called black but really isn’t that black.

And is it yellow? Gold? Comparable with Phantom yellow or Red Samurai gold?

See Zambs above comments dismissing people for the color change because it's "his take on the design." It's not just because of the renders and he has literally said it's not black anymore because cr is too dark..

OK, I wasn't commenting on the "black" (I actually personally prefer a lighter shade). The yellow looks pretty golden to me... Just compare this to PBT Hive (also to run soon, which is unfortunate).

The yellow looks significantly different though too. It was originally listed and rendered as Pantone 16-0836 TPX, which is a much darker gold than the bright yellow we have now.
