Vertical displays w/MacBook

How does this work?

Does the hardware have to support it or is it all up to the display?

The OS X video driver has to support external display rotation.

I have no idea if the MacBook driver (950 or x3100) support this.  I'm pretty sure it is supported on my new MBP though.  ;)
