hmm... everytime i get close to cleaning out my cherry stuff something like this comes along. i wannnnnt it.

I also wanted to get rid of my cherry stuff... and now this...

Sell old cherry stuff then buy new cherry stuff?

or use old cherry stuff to build new cherry stuff :D

exactly. i have some highly coveted vintage blacks waiting for a project. i was going to use them with the gh60 but... i already have a 60%

Do you agree that the vintages are better than new?

do you think nikes are better than reeboks?

good point ;)

I'll be making room in my budget for this little guy.

Also, to add to the discussion, I make HEAVY use of my right shift key, using it almost primarily, since I can hold it and still make use of my left pinky, so I only lose the ability to use shift + punctuation, which seems a significantly more rare occurrence for me.

That being said, I've be happy seeing it shortened to make space for a hardwired comma.

This keyboard design makes me want a laptop, but one without a keyboard on it. I'm thinking like. a Monitor on a stand, with all of the hardware in the monitor, but built for portability. Battery life, the whole shebang. Essentially a laptop, but closer to the desktop/monitor combos, just intended for portability.

Does this exist? OR can we make it exist? Anybody know enough about hardware, monitors and the like to help me make this happen? I'm happy working on the design portion.

somebody PM me, I got **** in my head that needs someone a talking to

I'm thinking this would need a heavy case. It may be to light and bounce or slide around while typing.

A case with brass weights.

Very cool!

Let me expound I don't want to come off as spammy.

This is a very awesome project. I love that there are no stabilizers other than the keyboard. It's small yet very functional. And it's all ready to go no need for fancy cases etc.

You guys do some amazing things!! Can't wait to see more.  :thumb:

In fact it does fit in my pocket!  :))

I added two more spacers to make the board more rigid.

The only thing left to do is program it!

Here is my 40% case design.

Top and bottom plates are 1/8" black acrylic which have been ordered from Pololu.com. Middle layer is going to be mahogany milled by a CNC mill.

Caps are going to be dark brown blank DSA retro caps. We'll see how it turns out.  :thumb:

My SmallFry Keyboard mini build guide.

What you'll need:
  • Acrylic plates
  • PCB
  • (40) Plate mount switches
  • (40) 1N4148 diodes
  • Teensy 2.0
  • 300 ohm resister
  • Mini USB connector
  • 3mm LED
  • 6.25x stabilizer
  • Keycaps

Solder all the components on the back starting from smallest to largest. First the diodes, then the USB connector, then the Teensy.

Connect the Teensy to the PCB. The holes are labeled on the reverse side.

Solder the 300 ohm resister to the designated spot on the front of the PCB.

Install the stabilizer then mount four switches in the corners of the plate and solder them to the PCB.

Install the remaining switches and solder them to the PCB.

Install the caps lock indicator LED. Bridge the solder pads.

I still need to finish the wood layer. Build guide will continue when it is completed.

Looks like you used too much solder on the switches (also looks like the pads weren't heated enough) and not enough solder on the diodes. My diodes always look like this:

Looks like you used too much solder on the switches (also looks like the pads weren't heated enough) and not enough solder on the diodes. My diodes always look like this:

Yes, the diodes aren't properly soldered. The problem is there aren't solder pads on the reverse side of the PCB so the solder will not stick/ flow through. Thanks for the help!
