And if needed, I would like to beta test :)

I have enough PCBs and parts for 10 prototype kits to people who want to poke around.  I put mine together, but it doesn't have any firmware on it yet.  Been really busy lately, sorry.

Anyway, here's the cost breakdown :

Ref       Value           Quantity  Unit      Ext Cost
-----------------------------------------------------------
PCB       -               1         14.03     14.03
C1,C2     22pF            2         0.07       0.14
C3,C8     1uF             2         0.08       0.16
C4..C7    0.1uF           4         0.07       0.14
D1..D56   1N4148          40        0.04       1.60
IC1       ATMEGA32U4      1         4.17       4.17
J1        USB MINI-B      1         1.10       1.10
R1,R2     22 Ohm          2         0.06       0.12
R3,R5     10 kOhm         2         0.06       0.12
S0        ADTSMW69NVTR    1         0.42       0.42
X1        7M-16.000MAAJ-T 1         1.45       1.45
-----------------------------------------------------------
                                     Total : $23.59

I don't know what shipping might be...

It's almost surely a long ways off. These have really only been in the hands of a very small number of people, and beta testing is just about to start in earnest. (See a few posts up.)

Hey, I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm having some weird behavior with the first board that I put together, so until I diagnose if it's my fault (in assembly) or something wrong with the PCB, I haven't sent anything out.  I don't want to send people a bunch of pretty, red paperweights.

The keyboard is fully programmable. You can set it up however you'd like. The layout is already so different that a lack of e.g. ISO mods should be the least of your worries ;)

I still need one key after P and two after L to type comfortably or Id have to use FN to access those characters which isnt very convenient.

Id still buy it anyway.

I've been using this JD40 for some time now and wanted to give a quick experience report.

Basically, I love it. While at work I use a 60% board and while at home I use this JD40. The layout is sufficiently different that I've been able to develop the muscle memory for both board, and can now switch interchangeably between the two with almost no loss of accuracy or speed. (I'm obviously slower on the JD40 than on the 60%, but I mean that I don't need to relearn the layout every time I use it.)

I'm a huge fan of how close everything is to the home row. Even complex chords don't feel like a hassle because there's very little stretching that's necessary. I might have a leg up because I've been a heavy emacs user for some time, so I'm used to finger contortions of various sorts, but I expect that anyone so inclined could pick up this layout in a few days.

This is also the first board I've had that's fully programmable, and I'm finding it hard to go back. The teensy + hasu's firmware makes it super easy to tweak the layout as I figure out what works and what doesn't, what I rely on and what I don't. I've basically given my QFR up as a pass-around-the-office keyboard, but I expect that if I ever wanted to use it again I'd have to get a Frosty Flake for it :p.

Looks like I'll just have to design my own 40% because this one aint colemak compatible :(
Seriously awesome stuff, though. I would totally buy it if I were still using qwerty.

What precludes the use of Colemak key mapping? Does Colemak require another row, or more columns?
