so I have no idea what to think

Peace and prosperity generally occur under progressive leadership.

Regressive political regimes generally foster negative results.

Take a look at the history books.

"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

I meant more about Trudeau - I don't know anything about his platform but if the Canadian left are anything like the Australian left then they're screwed civil liberties wise

Trudeau is pretty damn center-right economically, and socially he wants to legalize marijuana, if that means anything to you in terms of civil liberties. In general though his party is socially pretty left and economically much more right.

Well, terrible for the markets

Like I mentioned before, it's kind of the best of several evils things. My family is getting hit hard with the tax increases and the household income isn't even that high.

The Canadian dollar went down 0.02$ with his election with majority government

All you need to know about Trudeau is that he once fought a Conservative Senator in a charity boxing match and I quote: "pounded his foe into submission with a series of unschooled but powerful haymakers."

Here's the fight. It heats up around 8:30:

Hahaha I love Canada.

Haha. I had not seen that. Thanks for the link. My boss (childhood friends with Trudeau) is seated next to Trudeau's mother. Didn't expect to see him in this. :)

No way! That's awesome. I met Trudeau in a bar called Gerts on McGill Campus (we're both alumni) during a Montreal-Boston playoff game a few years ago. It's funny how these things make him seem so much more like a regular guy. He definitely doesn't feel as distant as other politicians do.

He's a very likeable guy, much more so than the other two (sorry, Green doesn't count).

His biggest flaw is that he is extremely easily swayed by emotion rather than logic. He wouldn't dare go against the progressive narrative or so much as question it, to the point where he'll do whatever the vocal ~10% want and spite the other 90%.

It's no shock he won though, after a long 9 years of Harper. Harper was still surprisingly popular though considering he was up against the mainstream (publicly funded) media, public sector workers, unions, public schools, universities/colleges, environmentalists, the aboriginal population, the Muslim population (10% of Canada), the poor, and anyone who already is left/socialist or just tired of Harper.
