Hello everyone. This is Hongoo from OneKey Studio.
Welcome to the IC for our new set –TAPE and RADIO 35. (TR35)


INSPIRATION

This keycap set is inspired by the Sony Walkman sports series, which was very popular in the 1980s.
Plastic material and bold colors made the sports series stand out from other competitors. 
The advanced aesthetics of that time are not outdated.


TIME LINE

2023/07/19: more accessories; novelties released; new vendor; new renders (icon mod v.s. text mod voting still open)
2023/08/14: Yellow alpha; Icon mod renders; matching keyboard case

COLOR DESIGN

The color design is carried out around the fashion sense of retro taste.
Black is used as the main color to give a classy vibe and accent it with green, blue, and gray to offer a different visual experience.
In addition, a new attempt has been made on the alpha kit of the keycaps, dedicated to restoring the color design of different styles in the WALKMAN SPORTS series.
I hope that more color choices will make it more fun.


NOVELTIES

The colors of the novelties are all from the Walkman. Tape elements are used in the design of icons. (of course, the tape is also a part of the Walkman),
and the fonts used for Enter key - FM/AM are reconstructed and created based on our analysis of the fonts used in Sony’s classic Walkman logo.

*KIT's render is inspired by the Walkman's blister packaging.


KITS

BASE

The base kit represents the basic color scheme of this set, with black as the main color, this kit provides the keys needed for a common layout. This time, the novelties kit is included in the base kit. There is no need to buy it separately. (Icon mod)

The additional gray base offers different color coordination. It was just a gray alpha kit, taking the feedback of the first IC, I made it into a gray base kit.

This kit provides the special-sized space bars needed for an Alice or 40’s layout.

Yellow alpha

After the first update, we received a number of suggestions about boring the yellow alpha back. So here it is.

*There could be a transparent accent kit. (depends on the manufacturer). A special supplement can give the whole set of keycaps a completely different vibe, inspired by the classic Walkman model WM-35.

TR-65

TR-65 is a remake of the original Panasonic KX-196145. This is not only to match the keycaps but also to honor the classic design made by Panasonic. The facade retains its original appearance and proportions, with the logo changed to 'Ma tsu shi ta' which is the family name of the founder of Panasonic. The design on the underside is abstracted from a tape. And made the rubber feet into the control buttons of a radio.

With PBTfuns' re-legendable keycaps, we can make something more fun to play with. Inspired by the channel window on the radio. The FM stickers included in the base kit will be printed with the main channels of different regions in the world, and there are also stickers that have not been printed, you can write your favorite channels and customize your channel keycaps. At the end

I tried a lot of new things this time, which also brings me new thinking on the design of keycaps. Studying 80s product design is an eye-opening experience for me. Using design language to express my understanding of 80s aesthetics is a very interesting process. What I hope to achieve this time is to keep the old as it is, and I have spent a lot of effort on rendering and materials for this. Hope I can make you move as I did through this design.

I like the accent colors a lot!  I wish it could be something more than a PBTFans black set for the base, but I think it's fitting here for the theme.  But I'm not gonna lie, when I saw that diagonal accent stripe on the first image, I got pretty excited about a gradient PBTFans set.

Love the concept, but not a fan of PBTFans text and icon mods if I'm being honest, as I think they look a bit cramped (particularly the Tab key and the 1.25u Shift). I'd have preferred for you to have stuck with the icon mods, or just to use text mods for the bottom row.

The novelties look great.

My vote is for PBT. ABS keycaps dominates the industry and it would be nice to have quality keycaps in PBT.

Love everything about this set, but the best of all is the cable design. One of the best looking and most unique I’ve seen to date. Hope this comes to fruition, and good luck with the project!
