le Cheat
« on: Mon, 10 September 2012, 14:15:52 »
I posted pics the other day of my Cheat in hot pink.  Well, as much as I liked the pink, I decided to get it refinished in something more classy.

Some specs:
- Case is Silver / Red / Silver with a red anodized plate, and red feet.
- 62g Blacks fully modded (sliders lubed, springs oiled, switches stickered)
- Crappy USB cable that's non-detachable (I'm planning on getting this fixed ASAP) and way too short
- F5-F8, 1x modifiers are Red LEDs, Capslock and Scroll Lock are White LEDs
- Keycaps are original RA
- Full Gallery:  http://imgur.com/a/zlE3z

Below are some before and after, enjoy :)

BEFORE

AFTER

Some additional pics of the finishing up close...

The one thing I'm a little sad about (my OCD won't let me live it down), is in the last pic, you can still see some of the pink dye inside the screw hole.  Oh well =/

Blog post to eventually come, but not before my TechKeys article (*wink* i3oilermaker *wink*)

How much did they cost unassembled originally?
How much does an assembled one cost?
Approximately how much does one have to pay to get one in EU/US today?

Just wondering. If I understood things right, the case was actually not that expensive.

I am personally saddened by the color change. Not man enough to rock the pink? :P

Joking aside, whoever did the refinishing did a nice job (aside from your pet peeve pink screw hole).
My wife I a also push her button . But now she have her button push by a different men. So I buy a keyboard a mechanicale, she a reliable like a Fiat.

The Cheat's should be in the same price range as KMACs.  Assuming that's the case, you're looking at $200-250 for DIY (domestic S. Korea).  Adding in cost of switches, switch modding, and labor for assembly would cost roughly $60-100.  Then factor in shipping and you're looking at right around $400 assembled and then shipped.

I actually liked the pink, and would have rocked it.  But, the Pink & Red stripe combo was killing me.  So it was either anodize the top and bottom pieces, or keep them pink and anodize the center red one.

The finish was a near perfect job I'd say...and for $40, I'm not complaining about the hole =)

Still amazed that they managed to make cases that cheap, especially considering they have all kinds of chamfers and nice features. We should give someone at their forums a design for a perfect case which we make, one which supports filco, phantom, plu87, quickfire and probably a couple more. I think they mostly differ in mounting holes and where the cable exits the case.

Edit: Now that I look at that one, it doesn't have chamfers or any particularly advanced features, but it still looks quite nice.

I agree. With silver in the center would have looked great. Maybe better yet, silver top and bottom and pink in the center (pun intended) and then the Valentines cap set.

He didn't pay 40 for a new case if that's what you are thinking. He got the pink repainted, I doubt aluminum cases would be cheaper than 150 for a filco.

Ofc not, I was referring to the price of the keyboard itself. Lucky asians with their cheap machine time. Contacts at my suppliers quote me quite a bit more for cases.

Comes in black and pink, units were sold out within 15 mins you had to take a quiz before you could buy it

356 series is known for its meticulous QC before GB happens it is known to be very well made
