This is a nice looking board. I love how you've worked the weight and case together to keep it down to one alu piece and still retain the top mount plate. Very cool.

Thanks! That was definitely a design priority for me. I think it helps with sound and makes the polycarb version look better than 2-piece designs.

What's the price of individual cases? I'm seeing the option for PC case + PCB, or Aluminum. I'm guessing that you intended for the first case option to include a PCB regardless of material? Does that mean I can buy another case for it?

The kit price includes 1 case, 1 weight, 1 plate, and 1 pcb. Additional plates, pcbs, ortho plate, and eva foam inserts are available as add-ons, but cases are not available on their own.

Just preference; the acrylic has an intermediate amount of flex compared to the PC, and I prefer that for tactile switches.

Good eye. Yes! All the bottom screws are counterbored, and while I used taller button screws for the prototype in the pictures, the production run screws are flatter M2s. There are also sunk holes for the bumpons in the corners on the production Neuron too, so it sits on a mm or two of rubber cushioning, not on its screw heads.

Yes! I ordered more extras than I anticipate needing for B-stocks (20 boards), and the extras will be sold off. Any B-stocks will be labeled as such. PC and Alu in all colors should be available, barring some act of god or an absurdly high B-stock rate.

Still looking at January for these?

Yup, no change in ship date from the factory. PCBs should be here Monday. Working on ways to make QC and packing time as efficient as possible, but yes, late January shipping seems totally reasonable at this time. :D
Title: Re: [GB] Neuron - Shipped from Factory
Post by: walletburner on Tue, 14 January 2020, 10:20:34
good news! the CNC parts (cases, weights, plates) have left the factory and are on their way to me. QC and packing will follow, so shipping should start in the next couple weeks. extras will go on sale after that. :)

Title: Re: [GB] Neuron - Shipped from Factory
Post by: walletburner on Sun, 19 January 2020, 13:00:23
Will there be PC extras :)

definitely. i ordered ~20% more Neurons than i needed in case of b-stocks. there should be ~10 PC extras on sale after QC and the GB orders go out, which will be sold on my new site, https://www.walletburner.co (https://www.walletburner.co). the cases/weights/plates are in town as of yesterday, so they should be delivered tomorrow or tuesday. that means the total turnaround for the GB will be around 3 months on the dot for domestic customers, and a tad longer for international customers depending on the postal service. not bad for a first run.

Any update on the timeline for these shipping out?

Yes!
[attachimg=1]

Here are half of the orders, QC'd and boxed, ready to go out later this week as domestic orders ship. The quality on this run is superb. A change in my shipping method required ordering some new packing supplies for domestic orders and caused a temporary delay, but I have everything figured out now and I will start sending out boards on a rolling basis this week. Domestic shipments will go out first, followed by international orders. This means the total turnaround for the board should be ~3.5 months or so for US customers and a tad longer for international customers, depending on their postal service/customs.

the first packages went out today! everyone should receive an email with tracking information to their PayPal email addresses the day before their order ships. Domestic orders will go out first in waves, then international orders. Aiming to get everything out to GB participants within a week.

All domestic (US) packages have gone out! I will try to finish all international orders this weekend. Sorry for the delay; it turns out packing 102 packages as one person makes my back spasm, and I can only fit 25 packages in my car at a time. As of today, we are 105 days after the GB, so I think this turnaround is still a resounding success, especially given the quality of machining and anodizing. Expect an email to your PayPal address when your order is packed and ready to ship, international peeps!!!

Shipping is 100% complete! Neuron has also been added to QMK, so if you're having issues just pull the newest repo. Please check your shipping boxes for the Golden Ticket, which still hasn't been found, but will yield a complete refund when located. Extras will go on sale in the very near future, after some much needed rest. Plate files for the staggered and ortholinear plates can be found here: https://walletburner.co/pages/neuron-information (https://walletburner.co/pages/neuron-information). If you run into any issues at all, don't hesitate to PM me.

This is a great keyboard, thanks for designing it and running this group buy.

However I have one complaint about my Neuron: I don't like the way the spacebars are split

You already shared the plate file, so I can easily get my own plate cut for a different layout. But if I had the outline of the PCB, I could make a compatible PCB that supports my desired layout. Obviously I could measure the board and do it myself, but it would be nice to use the same outline if possible. Better still, if you're willing to share the PCB file that would save me quite a bit of work.

Is that something you'd be willing to share, and if so would you be willing to condone a small 3rd-party group buy for them?

I'm not interested in sharing the PCB files, but The_Royal has already open-sourced the Schwann, an aftermarket ortho PCB with RGB underglow for Neuron, so I'm sure you can find everything you need to make a Neuron compatible PCB here: https://github.com/TheRoyalSweatshirt/The_Royal_Projects/tree/schwann/PCBs/Schwann_PCB (https://github.com/TheRoyalSweatshirt/The_Royal_Projects/tree/schwann/PCBs/Schwann_PCB) . As long as the port is between Esc and Q and it's smaller than the plate outline it should work.

That helps, thank you. My issue with the split is not that it exists, it's just in a bad place for me. I'll fire Up Kicad and see what I can do, or maybe a JD40 works.

Finally built my Neuron and this thing is great. This is the 3rd 40% Ive ever owned but Ive never really been patient enough to learn the new layout. I really want to try with this one though.

That being said, does anyone have either an image of the default Neuron config layout, or maybe have a config file that I could take a look at and test and then modify to my liking? Before the Neuron GB channel was taken down from the 40% discord a lot of people were sharing their configs and images of their layouts, but I didnt get a chance to pull any of them down.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for pointing that out, I just noticed that the Neuron was updated with VIA support. I just flashed the via hex today, took me forever to figure out why VIA did see my Neuron. I just had to install the latest version of VIA and boom there it was.

Ill mess around with the layout and see what suites me best. Was just hoping to find a good base to start with.
