Introducing ePBT Creative Studio, a keycap set inspired by and featuring sublegends for your favourite creative tools. The set comprises dark grey alpha keys and two themed modifiers sets: a sky blue and navy PS theme, and an orange and maroon AI theme. ISO-UK is supported in the base alphas kit, and NorDe support provided via an extension kit. It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly two years since the last substantive update on this project, but I have good news at last: the keycap set has been manufactured and we are just putting the last few pieces in place for an in-stock sale (I’ve updated the list of regional vendors below). All kits have been manufactured. I’ve received the final kits and been able to verify them myself — you can peep a small sample below of the PS theme keys which I mounted on my AKB OGR keyboard, plus take a look at the box art.

I’d like to directly address the fact that the shade of grey we’ve gone with looks lighter than the early renders; this is more an issue with my renders than the finished product, which is still colour accurate for the chosen pantones. For that reason I’ve created new renders with a more accurate shade of grey, and I’ve updated all the kit images below to use these renders instead. There have also been several rounds of revisions to the specific kitting to ensure that compatibility is maximised whilst minimising redundancy when buying multiple kits for a given layout.
It’s fair to say that the custom mechanical keyboard community has undergone some tough times over the last year or so; this is part of the reason why the set is being offered as an in-stock set rather than a group buy. For the same reason I’ve also scaled back some of my other original plans, and so we’ll only be offering a single deskmat (in neutral grey). Shipping deskmats has become incredibly expensive, and rather than risk not hitting MOQ I’ve felt it safer to offer just a single colour. I’ve updated the render below to show the latest design for this (for which I’ve also had a sample made, which you can see in the photo above).
In addition to the keycaps and deskmat, I’ve also been working closely with both Kate from HIBI, as well as maxvoltar & Salvun to create some really cool looking artisan keycaps. Renders for the latter can be found below. Since these will need to be manufactured based on demand, they will ship later than the keycaps themselves. Stay tuned for news on when the in-stock sale will go live!

Apologies to everyone who’s been patiently waiting for updates. Like pretty much everyone working on a project manufactured by EnjoyPBT using their new reverse dyesub process, I’ve been hit by delays as they finished their mould. Unfortunately I didn’t use the downtime as productively as I could (as far as this project goes at least — I did move house!) and so once news came that they were ready to start making samples, I revisited my project and realised there were quite a few things I needed to improve.
The biggest of these is that in order to make kitting changes easier I decided to undertake the substantial work to move from using Illustrator to Figma. This has made it much easier for me to make changes to individual legends or keys, and have the changes filter out across all the kits and layouts that use those keys. Most recently I undertook the (considerable) work of moving from key-specific SVG legends (think: a single graphic per key) to individual components per symbol, or ‘glyph’ (e.g. a specific component for the exclamation mark); this made it easier to ensure that different keys which used the same symbol in the primary, secondary or tertiary location always had the symbol in the same relative position. It also made it easier for me to update all instances of a single glyph whenever I tweaked it (and this has happened a few times).
So, my patient reader, what’s changed? Well, in addition to a number of changes based on feedback from members of this community, I have also revisited the kitting for 40s users (the ‘nomad’ kit), and substantially overhauled international language support. In place of a single NorDe kit including AltGr keys for all colour schemes, AltGr keys have moved into their respectively-themed modifier kits, and the actual language support has been overhauled. NorDe is now NorDe++ and includes support for Danish, Estonian, Faroese, German, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish & Finnish. There are two additional new language kits: French & Belgian-French, and Italian, Spanish & Portuguese, the latter including support for common keys in Latin America, and Brazil-Portuguese.
One major change which required a fair bit of testing was ensuring that international kits had the right icon sublegends for the key in that location’s behaviour when using that language’s layout. Particularly the minus and plus keys on the number row, which are used for the remove/add anchor point tool respectively, as these retain that functionality for whatever key is in that location, rather than following the minus and plus keys to their alternate location.
With a mammoth twenty kits to manage now, I’m eschewing renders of every single kit for the moment, and will instead focus future renders on providing previews of the kits in use on a variety of boards, as well as some renders in neutral lighting for colour matching purposes. Hopefully this approach will communicate everything interested parties need to see about the kitting, and separate renders will do their own respective job.
Finally, I do have other irons in the fire, and a number of collaborations and complementary items that will form part of the group buy. Keep your eyes peeled for a future update with news about artisans and other goodies soon!

I don't currently have the time to update my renders, but a future update will make a few changes which were proposed by folks on here (most notably, I'll be removing F keys from the neutral modifiers kit, since these are duplicated across the base alpha kits). For those who have been asking when they'll get to see this in group buy: first of all thank you sincerely for your enthusiasm! It's genuinely exciting to see my design get such a reception. As yet EnjoyPBT haven't been in a position to quote for the sets, and since I'm moving house soon this has become something of a lower priority. As soon as I've moved (and have working internet again!) I will be back to focusing on getting this to the group buy stage.

Thank you to everyone for the really enthusiastic response, and the many helpful suggestions and observations. I’ve been working hard to make changes to try and address the most common bits of feedback, and have updated the kitting images accordingly:
- Substantially reworked Modifiers and Modern kits; all modifiers are icon-based now, and as a result the Modern kit has shrunk (since a lot of keys would otherwise have been duplicated)
- Removed media key sublegends from the F-row keys in the Modifier kits, and added their equivalents to the Modern kits.
- Added F-row keys to to Alphas kit to permit alternating F-row colours (if you like that)
- Added an extra B key to the Alphas kit to support Alice users (and removed it from Nomad kits)
- Moved some Mac-specific keys from Alphas to Modern kits
- Added tilde and pipe keys to both modifier sets
- Changed Numlock key to be an icon modifier in the Numpad kits
- Merged the two NorDe kits into a single kit with both mod colours; also, replaced AltGr with a new icon legend
- Substantially reworked the Nomad kits to better support 40s users. Too many changes to list, but hopefully you’ll see something more to your liking if you’re a 40% user and want to pick up just the alphas and nomad kits
- Substantially revisited the Novelties kits. A lot of people raised concerns about the Ai and Ps icon novelties, and I’ve taken the decision to remove these to ensure the kit won’t have any legality issues. I’ve also changed many of the 1U novelties in each kit to be more app-specific.

can the norde kits be combined?
I feel like you can make your kits a lot smaller since most of the alt kits are the same but with a couple of different colored keys, for example norde and numpad, I don't see any difference in the Norde kits other than the 3 keys on the bottom, so maybe offering those 3 keys in a different kit so that people that want both colors dont get most of the norde kit duplicated
I’ve received this feedback from a few people, so I will investigate amalgamating the mods from both the NorDe and Numpad kits into just two single kits.

There’s an extra B in the Nomad kit(s) for Alice layout, but I’m going to revisit the kitting for Nomad to make it easier to support 40% layouts, and make it simpler for Alice users to create a workable layout, either with the modifier kit alone, or with the modifer + spacebar kits. Most likely just by adding an extra B key to the base kit.

I think there’s an error on my part; one of the \| keys is to support ISO-UK Mac, but that should be R2 rather than R1. This might seem like a particularly niche layout to support, but it’s what I use so I wanted to ensure it was covered (there are some other slightly unusual keys in the base kit that are for this layout, like ±§). (The row ordering is confusing to me too but apparently that’s how EnjoyPBT does their numbering, so I’ve stuck with it).
I would like to see mod pipe in the mod kits.
No mod pipe or tilde... Looks cool, but I'd have to use another set with mods I want to match it.

IANAL but this has been asked a few times, specifically with regard to one of the novelties. All of the icon artwork is my own, but I’ll let an actual lawyer make a final call on whether I need to remove/alter any of the novelties before production.

I might not have made it explicit (and perhaps I should!) but I’m definitely seeking to support Mac users here, given how there’s a strong overlap with the creative community there.
Love the font, the execution, the modifiers, and the presentation. Too bad I only use Lightroom...
If only there was one for Lightroom and XD...but regardless I love this concept! Since I use both extensively, I was wondering if it was possible to make another kit that is a combination of both. I don't know how well that would look, but if it doesn't I don't mind buying individual kits depending on the price.
If this set is a success I would definitely be looking to follow up with other members of the Creative Suite family. As far as combination kits go, I did consider this at first (an early version had orange mods on one side, blue on the other) but it’s a little tricky to scratch everyone’s itch. My hope is that the pricing will be attractive enough that people can pick up a couple of mod kits and mix and match to their tastes.

Maybe it's just me being weird but I wonder how it would look if both mods are used, with orange mods left and blue mods right (kinda like Portal). As a heavy user of both PS and AI I'd buy both mod sets if somebody could render how a mix of mods look
Get both and you will have plenty of options to mix and match them.

i think the Norde AI Accents should be in the Norde PS kit too bc i dont know if they both hit MOQ so i would just combine them.
FWIW ePBT don’t have an MOQ for child kits so there’s no issue with that, but nonetheless this has been consistent feedback so I think I would be wise to combine them! :thumb:

There's been quite a bit of feedback regarding the 40s support from the Nomad kit, so I'm planning on revisiting this assuming there's enough interest in supporting 40% layouts. What would be great is for more people who are definitely interested in buying this to use on a 40% board to complete the survey and indicate they'd buy the Nomad kit, even if it does need some alterations to support their specific needs, that way I know it's going to actually sell!
Also no eraser icon for novelties? :(
I might revisit the novelties since the pathfinder novelties are very Illustrator-specific, which may give an opportunity to do more Photoshop-specific ones in that kit.

I like the colors of the mods a lot. For those who don't use PS/AI on a daily basis though, it would be nice if there was an alternate alphas kit without the icons. I'd definitely consider buying the set if that was an option.
I second the alternative kit w/o the icons! Personally i perfer my board a bit cleaner.

I've been reading this topic with some interest! It’s an interesting one, but I personally don’t feel like the rounded tail on the enter symbol is inconsistent. There are quite a few other modifier symbols that have rounded elements, particularly the Command symbol for Mac, and the lock symbols (Num Lock and Layer Lock, the latter of which is only in the Nomad kit). At one point there was a different symbol on the 1u backspace key in the Nomad kit, as I had misinterpreted this as being akin to a ‘back’ button in a browser (the default GMK legend in my template just has the word 'Back'), and this also had a rounded hook on the end. Ultimately it comes down to personal taste to a degree, and so I’ve opted for a certain look that I think works well, but hopefully enough others like it too.

I didn’t update the IC form with the changes to the kitting (and addition of new kits), since the changes were quite substantial. The important thing is that unlike some manufacturers there’s no MOQ for individual kits with EnjoyPBT so all of the sets listed on the IC should be made regardless of how many responses they get. Mostly the IC form is a tool for me to gauge interest in a particular idea. I’m not averse to adding additional kits to the survey but at this point it would be hard to reconcile the fact they were absent from the survey when most people responded, sadly!

I am a bit late in responding, but I appreciate the direct reply regarding the discussion! At the end of the day, I do think it is a very nuanced design choice. And, although I would personally prefer an angled Enter key, you are ultimately the creator and artist of this wonderful keycap set. It's also not going to stop me from picking one up if a group buy comes into fruition!

I understood since previous OP's posts that he likes to have function keys that match alphas, which, in this case, are in neutral colors. That is the main reason why both alpha sets carry a whole function row and what justifies their removal from the neutral mods. An independent function row set can be bought separately, making happy most of the GB's joiners and the OP, but the OP has the last word.

Ah I understand now, I didn't consider the alternating F keys, as I was thinking that everyone who bought the mods would have one of each F key. I know some sets made the alternating colors mandatory like Kat mizu (https://cannonkeys.com/products/gb-kat-mizu?variant=31991361601647), or Nautilus (https://omnitype.com/products/gmk-nautilus-2-keycap-set).
I think the demographic who strongly prefers full or alternate mods might be much smaller than people who would rather prefer cheaper alphas, but survey is the best way to know as you said. If number of kits are no object, it could go in its own, or into the modern kit or something. But like Ideus said, it's ultimately up to you.

I want to remark especially on the icons; you managed to get fresh, non-standard icons that are not "overdone". Outside of some specific sets of Cherry-style icons, I don't think I've come across an icon-only mod kit that I'd actually be happy looking at.
My only suggestion is to consider using the more line-centric Command/Apple logo for the default command/win key; the stroked version goes better with the other stroked icons, IMO. Either way, that icon seems like it's a bit too big, and could get sized down a 1-2mm

Apologies for not replying more directly! My original opinion was to offer it if enough people asked for it, but since there’s no MOQ on non-base kits I suspect it should be fine to add anyway. My computer and desk are all packed up in boxes right now so I’ll probably not be moving this further along for a week or more, but my intention is to pick up the thread in mid/late April.

So I just had this idea and am wondering if this can be made with the set: is it possible to include a novelty set that's a uniform R1 profile with all the icons from the toolbar? I am just drawing with Adobe Illustrator today and thought it could be super helpful to have a 2x10 macropad (e.g. butterknife from sneakbox) with these uniform keys, so I can have the macropad right next to a tablet for easy command toggles....

The <> key belongs to the Norde kit and not the base set that already carries the \| key that goes with the UK layout. But, the Norde should have the <>\ and <>|, which covers Danish, Swedish, and Finish variations. An option is to leave the <> key in the base and provide the other two in the Norde kit. I have some reservations against the current trend to provide the <> and base sets to cover iso-like layouts with 1.25u left shift, and I think that \| key is a better match for it when the pipe-backslash cannot be fitted over the Enter-key due to the ISO-enter.

It's normally provided for "terminal ISO US", which is preferable to normal ISO US as it doesn't contain two of the same key.

This was time consuming but definitely worth the effort, as I currently have a total of 18 kits (!!!) and managing these all within a single Illustrator file was becoming impossible. Using Figma’s component system makes it a lot easier for me to tweak things and have the changes propagate across the entire set of kits. Oh, and in case you were wondering, the irony of designing an Illustrator-inspired set of keycaps in Figma is not lost on me!
I’ve also been working on some as-yet unannounced extras that will be part of the group buy, including artisans and other cool things to complement the set. More details (including product renders etc.) will accompany the full group buy, which I’m hoping will take place within the next couple of months!

Are there any new developments with this? I have a pocket full of cash and I'm practically drooling over this entire set. And look, before I get handled, I don't know how these processes play out, ok? This would be my first GB, but its weird to me that this has been in an IC stage for half a year. Educate me if you must, but I'm just barreling into this thread without any consideration of the typical M.O. for ICs/GBs, this forum, or the hobby. Absolutely fine for you to ask! This will be my first keycap set too, so there are probably things I’ve done that I’d do differently in future which have delayed things. The major cause of delay was on the manufacturer end as they had to wait for their new mould to be ready; it is now, and so the delay is back with me again as I’ve decided to update the kitting to support various other languages. I’m working away on that and hopefully samples will be produced soon. I’m also working on various collaborations which I’m keeping secret right now, but will reveal all soon!

I saw the legend treatment that you applied to dead keys and found it very interesting, would be a first for legends and would make this set a very special one.

Yes, I know they're in the set. It's the reason I'm requesting a 1.25u sb, which is sandwiched in the middle in my case and harder to come by...
Also requesting the 2.5us (yes, I know now that it isn't a thing) and 3us cuz I know they could be a source of derangement for some of us.

I concur: A good product later is far better than a bad one soon. Please keep us posted, considering the thread visits this set has a good demand; therefore, there should be many like me, that are waiting for a GB date.

Funnily enough I’m in exactly the same boat, which often means I’m missing the exact keys I need for non-uniform profiles. Fixing this in my own set was an important criteria for me, as is having a UK vendor!

I’m still waiting for news on samples — EnjoyPBT have managed to produce samples for a number of other reverse dyesub sets that are in the works, but unfortunately since the queue is largely dictated by which sets already went to group buy, this set is penalised relative to sets which ran their group buy without samples in-hand. It’s very important to me that the set his a high quality bar for the colours though, so I’m not willing to run a group buy before I sign off on samples. Hopefully this means time period from group buy to shipment is shorter though!

Will you be asking for more samples, especially for the alphas? They look more bluish-grey than neutral grey (they should match to 425C? basing all this on one photo, please excuse if they do look correct in-person) Available mods and accents look well matched.
You’re not wrong that it does look slightly blueish, both in the photo and in person, when compared with the Pantone colour chosen; I would say however that in person the colour cast is incredibly subtle, and most people probably wouldn’t notice. I have requested another round of samples nonetheless since the sub legends aren’t the correct shade of grey either.

I just wanted to quickly touch on this topic; EnjoyPBT has started to work through the backlog of sets and I’m much more confident in their ability to ship now that they’ve worked through the issues with their mould, and so I’m confident in a decent turnaround time for a GB once it’s run (certainly faster than some other manufacturers).

It's certainly not dead, but the lead times on manufacturing with EnjoyPBT have been horrendous (just ask any designer who ran an EPBT GB). This combined with vendors in financial distress means the most likely outcome is that this set will be offered as an in-stock sale rather than a group buy. But as for when, I suspect we're still months away.
