Title: What kind of cable do I need to make usb cables?
Post by: Karpy on Wed, 26 April 2017, 22:03:42
I am going to try my hand at making custom usb cables for myself and friends. I have found all the materials just been the actual cable. I'm not sure what type I would need. Thanks!

Well, you could just buy USB cable. Here's one example (http://www.l-com.com/usb-bulk-cable).

If you're asking about internal wires, pinout.ru gives you all the knowledge you need. Look at the bottom of this page (http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml) to see how long you can have your cable given the gauge of the internal wires.
Also, since USB is a differential signal, data lines should be close, twisting the data wires (green and white ones) all the cable long is a good way to do that.
Finally, stick to the standard colours for wires.
