Keycap of Mystery
« on: Thu, 19 July 2012, 21:49:20 »
This topic has been condensed into a wiki. I will be updating this topic and the article as new information is had.
http://wiki.geekhack.org/index.php?title=The_Mystery_Keycap
---
I received this in the mail Wednesday. Unfortunately I don't recognize it. It's a F#-row keycap made by SP. There was no return address.

http://i.imm.io/xd4D.jpeg
http://i.imm.io/xd55.jpeg
http://i.imm.io/xd5b.jpeg

Images are of the top, another view, and of the underside (clearly showing it to be an SP-made keycap)

In the pictures, it's a little darker, as the front is in shadow from the lighting. It's a light blue, with a white, or off-white legend.

It looks like it could be a US Air Force logo, if you look at some of the elements of their standard logo.

Seems like we can assume it geekhack related? Two high posters on geekhack get a cherry key cap, ahaha. The mystery deepens.

Well, it's got to be someone with our addresses already. It can't be me or hashbaz (unless one of us is really sneaky, and based on the shipping times, the sender is closer to the east coast.

I'd compile a list of GH'ers that have my address, but it'd be pretty long, 'cause I've been in a lot of GB's.
---
At first, I thought it was litster, for participating in the cherry legend project (He did say there's be something extra) but now I don't know.

The mystery continues!

So I just checked the mail today hoping for my CCnG's to arrive but instead I found this:
I never bought this from anybody, and there was no return address either. I have no idea what this keycap is from, who sent it or what it means O_O.

I just got one too. I do have an inkling as to who it might be; specially because there is one person that likes to use these kinds of bubble envelopes to send small amounts of key caps ;).
I'll post a picture soon.

Maybe he just mailed one to me first. Given the receiving times, it looks like the sender is mailing like 1/day.

As far as the packaging: Mine said "newegg" on the side.

I'm pretty sure it's not ripster (He doesn't have my address as far as I know) Plus, I don't think he likes me much. I'm almost certain it's not reaper either.

Mine had stamps on the package, and no return address. The stamps were marked through with a pen instead of a postmark.

maverick was one of the old compromised passwords, which means a Top Gun fan. Look at the Top Gun logo, its very similar to this key and Top Gun was obviously really just the real Air Force (AF)

Curious as to who made these, but it's an obvious ripoff of the Athlete Forward logo:

I suppose if everyone said who has their address, everyone else that got the key can eliminate people if they didn't give it to that person... etc.  But that's too hard. :)
