imsto "Cherry font" dye-subs
« on: Fri, 17 August 2012, 18:29:20 »
Some starter pics for you guys.  I'm currently putting them on my keyboard right now, so more pics to come later =)

Some initial things to note, the font looks a little smaller.  Also, the ABS doubleshots are significantly more sharp, but even the Cherry dyesubs are a tad fuzzy.  Bottom line, I'm impressed =)

I just wish to have a modifier set to supplement my real Cherry dyesubs. imsto if you are reading this, please start sell set of tab, caps lock, shifts, ctrl, win, alt, menu, ansi enter, \| (or '# 1.5 to use DE set on ANSI) and backspace only. Many of us only need these and not full sets.

^ why I can't see these sets in his vendor forums?

btw, how do you like the PBT keycaps from imsto? I means the texture, how is it in comparison with SP PBT and (non-thick) KBC PBT?

There isn't much 'texture' per se.  It's a smoother feel, very matte finish.  Overall, I like them a lot, and compared to the KBC thin keycaps, they are significantly different in a lot of ways:  profile is lower, much thicker causing sound to resonate differently, and texture as I mentioned above.

It's certainly a nice peace of mind to know that I'm not wasting the texture on vintage Cherry keycaps, and instead, I can still get a similar effect with imsto's PBT keycaps =) (mostly mental)

What's the point of buying cherry keycaps if you won't use them? :o

I'd wait to order from him for now, since he's stocking up some new colors.  I heard from MMB that he sold out of this set in the original Cherry beige set colors.  So I know for a fact he stocks that, just temporarily sold out.

Ha ha, that's hard question. I have several ABS DS set, most of the time, they are staying in the box. I just sometime put them on the keyboard, take a pic, then pull them off, put them in the box again. :D. The caps that I used the most are the shiniest caps and the PBT ones. LOL.

If the texture of those imsto's keycaps is like you said, I think I will like them, since I like SP PBT and topre PBT due to their smooth texture.

I've got a bunch of harder to find Cherry doubleshots that I have in use. I've got 2 ansi US white on black with numbers only numrow with both 1.25 and centered caps, IT white on black with 1.5 mods, DE black on light grey 'hellgrau', GB black on light grey 'hellgrau' with 1.25 mods, FR black on white/beige, 2 US ansi black on white/beige - one with RGB and centered capslock, US grey on pearl with centered caps but incomplete due to odd keysizes, US coffee on cream 37+ set, US/Mexican? (not sure of official designation but it has 2nd legend on some keys like the cedilla c, ~n, upside down ? and !, but is not like the Spain layout at all) blue on grey dyesub sadly incomplete due to non standard keysizes, US ansi Dolch, US ansi black on beige alphas with black on white mods, and a bunch of misc keys in odd colors and legends. Some colors I don't use like my coffee on cream just because I can't have a complete set in them, and probably never will and it annoys me.
Maybe I can get imsto to do some custom color match...

I have to say imsto's version is quite close to original only place it really stands out that is different is actually the 1! 2@ numeric row and the placement of the legends.

Here are photo's of comparison of Cherry DS and Cherry Dyesubs

That's what I ment too that the Cherry dyesub compared to DS the G and R are the same, you never know there might be a difference.

For example the dyesub RGBs the "t" has a hook at the bottom while the DS or regular dyesubs don't, it's weird.

Maybe in reality the colours are a bit different, but from the pictures it looks like a certain mystery light blue "AF" or "AV" key cap would fit right in, say in the Esc position.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
