[IC] Nyancat Backspace and row 4 set

The idea is this:

NYANCAT AS BACKSPACE

RAINBOW OF KEYS GOING ALL ALONG `1234567890-=

basically, 2 different rainbow keys, one where it waves up, one where it waves back down, alternate the keys and it looks like a rainbow trail!

Here's a preliminary test design, final design is likely to be on the top row of white keys or on a different blue than either of those pictured. Stars will probably be blue instead of yellow but we dunno.

It would be a dyesub on a medium blue key or white, to match either the portal keyset or the one that \KL is doing. ^.^

That's actually a great idea, if SP can do it.  Then right Alt can be nyan cat.

As someone who never uses right alt, winkey, menu, or ctrl. I am down with that. But I was also referring to having trail+nyan on the same spacebar. Whichever floats your boat though, maybe put it to a vote?

you cant dyesub the spacebar right cuz its ABS and not PBT since they can't do spacebars as PBT at Signature Plastics.

Oh are we doing this through Signature Plastics..? Perhaps we could get a better deal somewhere else on the spacebar though, perhaps two group buys then?

2 group buys mean none will go through cuz lack of people or the price skyrockets. Since the OP decided on backspace + the rest as rainbow then i guess this is what we're doing.

Normally all these group buy for custom keycaps are all from SP, and SP can't do PBT spacebar because of the shrinkage which only leaves ABS which I dont think it can be dyesubbed.

Where else are you going to get a place to manufacture a rainbow spacebar?

Well aware of that but a lot of people are suggesting the nyan cat on the alt and spacebar as the rainbow, and I'm just telling them I don't think thats even possible that is all.

I prefer the backspace + rest of row 1 anyways

Which is true, as long as you don't have to buy a whole rainbow if you aren't interested in it, as that would probably raise the price significantly to have it if you don't want it.

This is correct. This has to be dye sublimated, and you can't dye sub on ABS so a spacebar is impossible. In addition, we'd have to wait for the universal spacebars which is going to be a while. Was a great idea though, I'd do it if it was possible.

You cannot do dye subs on black, so that leaves us two color options:
Poptart on Blue
Poptart on White

I'm good with either, blue would go more with the original scheme of the nyan, but white would go really well with other sets (Portal)

Likely color codes for them would be WFJ for white (same as Portal) and BCT for blue (\KL set).

I'm willing to offer them separate so that those that don't want the rainbow don't have to get it. Both will get enough since people will likely be getting many rainbow keys.

I think on blue would look better for the theme, but white would match the rest of the board more then likely. I think personally I would like blue more, even on a full otaku white/black board you can still have that looking like the sky and the amazing rainbow with the cat.

The amount of colors shouldn't actually pose a problem, its literally just a printer printing onto the keycaps.

You're probably not going to get to see a sample since they don't usually make them until the order is submitted. We might get lucky though like I did with those prototypes of the portal gb posted above.

I think you're image really demonstrates the point. But i'm worried its just the contrast of the color against the key's color that's distorting my perception.

Fortunately there are only three unique keys, so huge rainbows should be cheap!  I would much prefer a blue background, but if it makes nyan cat hard to see then I'm OK with white.

You could do white, but with a blue background as an added colour on the top. The difference being it'd be white on the sides still.

Yeah, I really like the look of black on red, and I want that scheme for my eventual Realforce since they sell that set for Topres.

Honestly since they cost around $90 and that's what most Cherry MX keyboards cost in themselves, the idea of spending that much on a keycap set for them is kinda ludicrous.

You could do white, but with a blue background as an added colour on the top. The difference being it'd be white on the sides still.

That would look pretty terrible because it would showcase the limits of the printing for the dye sublimation printer... the edges would most likely be uneven and not at the absolute edge of the keycap.
