They had zip ties because they wanted to make sure Nancy Pelosi had good cable management on her PC.

I'm sure all tresspassers on federal property in possession of restraining materials and weapons will be held accountable to the limit of the law...  right guys??? right??  FYI this is what happens when ignorant mobs are met with harsh words and no consequences year after year.

Social Media was a mistake.

This is what happens when you give stupid people a platform to legitimize themselves. They surround themselves with more stupid people parroting back the same echo chamber they went searching for. And when you get a stupid person with a personality and give them a platform, just due to the nature of having a megaphone they are able to signal to other herds of stupids where to gather and mobilize.

Social media is the atomic bomb of our age. Bad for everybody.

It's not social media. This is the culmination of decades of work, stretching back to the late 1970s. The GOP has been deliberately working towards this moment since Nixon was forced to resign under popular/political pressure. In response they crafted a deliberate strategy to produce rabble isolated from independent factual media, and induct their supporters into a pliable cult free of independent thought, which could then exert pressure against any potential ethical standards of their elected representatives.

2/3 of the House GOP is now firmly in the sedition caucus, including the minority leader, not to mention the several who are out-and-proud QAnon conspiracy nutters. 45% of GOP voters think that the assault on the capitol was a good thing. A large majority are convinced that Trump rightfully won the election.

Plenty of people were radicalized long before social media, e.g. my grandpa who spent his last couple decades religiously listening to Limbaugh on the radio, and later watching O'Reilly & al. on TV. Facebook is another amplifier here, but not the primary source.

People involved in the Capitol insurrection are going to find themselves in severe legal jeopardy. They have royally pissed off the new Congress, President, and DOJ leadership.

I think you totally missed my point about social media being the gun. The ammo was always there but never able to have been fired with such ease and efficiency until social media peaked. It's the hand on the arm that opened the gates fully.

If we're mentioning history, this is not the first time firearms/weapons had been in the Capitol during a protest (May, 1967).  But last I checked they didn't thrash the premises like this hoard of fools.

The Trump insurrectionists literally shat all over the inside of the Capitol. As in, pulled down their pants and took a dump on this temple of the American republic.

Pretty good metaphor for the whole 2020s GOP.

Pretty good metaphor for the whole  1980-2020s GOP.

Fixed that for you.
Cognitive distortions are patterns of thought, typically automatic and unconscious, that cause an inaccurate, negative view of situations, people, and/or events. These include things like jumping to conclusions; black-and-white thinking; negative mental filtering; overgeneralizing; mindreading (incorrectly believing we know what others are thinking, what their motives are); and emotional reasoning (believing that if we are feeling something, or if what we are thinking is associated with a strong emotion, it must be true).
