Teensy Group Buy
« on: Fri, 11 March 2016, 12:13:50 »
I don't know about you, but I think that hand wired projects are super cool, and I want to encourage more people to do hand wired projects! Anyway, One of the best controllers that money can buy is the teensy 2.0. It's convenient, it's, well, teensy, and it is compatible with TMK. Teensy's are pretty cheap in the first place, that's true. That being said, if you're anything like me, you like to keep two or three of the things on hand. Now necessarily for keyboard related stuff, but they are something that's handy to have.

Anyway, I had this idea that we could organize a group buy for a bunch of teensy 2.0's. I emailed Robin at PJRC (The manufacturers of Teensy products, as well as a few other cool things) last night, and she got back to me this morning with the following pricing:
Teensy 2.0, Without Pins
Qty 1 - 24: $16.00
Qty 25 - 99: $14.40
Qty 100: $12.80

I don't know if there could be more price drops after 100, since I really only asked for the 100 or so mark, since I don't really expect this buy to be all that big.

One other thing I was thinking, if the community would be interested, is adding wire and diodes to the buy, so that we can have everything we need (minus switches and plates, which, for custom builds are more of a source it yourself kind of thing anyway) to build some hand wired boards!

Please post your thoughts and suggestions in this thread!

I'd buy a few, especially if they are sold with header pins or sockets.

Depending on lead time I'd be down for a number as well.

Might want to think about have the ++ model as well for those doing larger boards.

Yup! I was also thinking about offering some shift registers, since you can do a ton of stuff with those.

For other teensys, I'd have to see about the pricing, and possibly do a poll for one or the other if a combination discount isn't possible.

Is EU buys feasible?

I think that depends largely on the number of teensy's that would need to be sent. If it were just one or two, I can't imagine it would be any cheaper than normal, but I could certainly take a look! If someone wanted to act as a proxy over there, I think it would definitely be feasible. Teensy's are small, so it would be pretty easy to ship a medium-large quantity of them over.

A few of these might be nice. I have one hand-wire and a second one with Enablers in the works...

I went out of my way to use LL4148 diodes since the board will be exposed on the bottom. Gateron Yellows will finish it off perfectly!

+1

Would also love an option for header pins sockets.

Had a hand wiring / basic pcb project in mind for a while now, and also have a few six shooter pcbs laying around...

I'd like to say I'd join at the lowest price point...two pieces.

I'm in the states, and would also (since you're ordering from PJRC anyway...) to get a ++ for Samwioski's GH-122 project. That one's not likely to hit a high volume but it'd be nice to get a slight discount...

Whaddya think folks? Any chance at 25 GH-122 projects?

I would be interested if you're willing to ship to Canada. Maybe 2 or 3. Really depends.

I'm definitely interested in this :) as long as shipping is cheap and the group buy doesn't take like... months

I would definitely take part in this. I think the biggest problem would just be overcoming the shipping cost since these aren't TERRIBLY expensive in the first place
