No changes from R2 to R3?Ya, he mentioned there's no changes somewhere else. This round is to keep up with the demand since R2 extras sold out so quickly.

Is it also possible to buy just the stems?/if so how. Much?

zealios..... i want it but ETA is June......
So you are telling me these are compatible with the 4 pin leds ?
Hey zeal, I put 65g zealios Inn my orbweaver, and they seem to 'catch' a little when I bottom out - is this an issue with the R1s that are rectified with R2 or can I fix it with lube?
I don't have this issue with the blackwidow, maybe because I mainly use the orbweaver for gaming and the blackwidow for typing?
It seems to only happen if the following two conditions are met:
1. Your switches are installed LED side "up" (facing away from you)
2. You bottom out heavily
I'm not exactly sure which part is touching that causes that slight feel at the bottom, but some people have reported that it goes away after some wear in. Most custom keyboards have the LED facing down, so it isn't an issue for a fair amount of builders.

Hey Zeal - would these LEDs help with (reduce) the catching?
It's not really the LEDs catching, more so the orientation of the switch. A bit of lube generally fixes what you were experiencing.

That's interesting. Which part is causing the catch and where would i have to apply lube to fix this?

Yo! zeal, how do yoou get the leds to work, if it is as simple as conecting them together and then just putting 4 cables into the teensy, otherwise maybe not...
You'll definitely need a few controllers that are more powerful than the teensy if you were to build a hand wired 4pin RGB keyboard...It would also require some serious tidiness!
As of right now, there are very few 4pin RGB PCBs out in the wild. Majorit of them come from "gaming keyboards" with a few 60% and 100% ones in China. Hoping that this year will change and we see more 4 pin RGB LED PCBs.

Well, it's kind of possible with a Teensy, if you use LED driver ICs to handle the LED matrix. As of right now, there are very few 4pin RGB PCBs out in the wild. Zeal stocking these RGB LEDs has inspired me to work on some PCBs to support them. Unfortunately, they cause conflicts for overlapping switch footprints, i.e. supporting winkey and winkeyless layouts on the same PCB. That wasn't really a problem for 2-pin LEDs.
Hi Zeal, do you have any GB plan for Zealios linear switches?
I know the purple is great but I'm a big fan of linears.

The demand isn't there for linears. :/ I still have a few hundred remaining 67g Linear Zealios on my site.

Any plans for clicky switches in the future?
Hi guys, I am pretty new to the mechanical keyboard world and have a question on these switches. In the future I plan to get a hot swappable keyboard and want to put some Zealios in it; that being the case, do I need to buy the PBC mount or plate mount switches? Thanks!
Hi Zeal, thanks for the quick reply! I'm assuming that taking the PBC legs off is a pretty easy process; just go at it with a razor blade and smooth it out after?

Flush cutters work best. :)
Zeal, does the 4pin LEDs work with the ErgoDox and does the ergodox support RGB?
can anyone give a description in the difference in feels between mounting zeals on a steel plate vs aluminum?
can anyone give a description in the difference in feels between mounting zeals on a steel plate vs aluminum?
There's more to switch feels than just plate material. It also depends on how the plate is mounted.
General guideline is aluminum for tactile, steel for linear. That doesn't mean that you can't use different feeling switches in the other plates however.
What do you think, would it be possible to take an RGB light strip, remove all the LED's, and solder these ones on in the switch?
What do you think, would it be possible to take an RGB light strip, remove all the LED's, and solder these ones on in the switch?
I don't quite get what you want to do. Do you want to use the LED strip as a sort of matrix to control the in-switch RGB LED's? If yes this might be possible, but since the switches are already transparent you could just place the RGB strip under them and you have RGB backlight.
Yeah, but i got the milky bottom zealio, so it wouldent work that well. I tested, it works OK, but not that brightWhat do you think, would it be possible to take an RGB light strip, remove all the LED's, and solder these ones on in the switch?

Will you have the Aristotle switches back in stock soon, or should I look to scavange?Any plans for clicky switches in the future?
Idea has been scrapped for the time being due to cost issues. There is a mod you can do which I call "Zealiostotles" which uses Aristotle stems inside Zealio housings. The tactile bump is very satisfying, and the click is super crisp.
Hey zeal, just wanted to know if I can add another 20 62g zealios and 80 78g zealios to my order? My order number is 3674. Thanks!
Edit: could I add 20 of the 65g plate mount as well?

I just decided that I'd like to add some lube to my order, do I just do it like last time, order them and write a note so you refund the shipping and ship it together with the other order or do you prefer a different way this time?
Quick update:
Just had a word with Gateron, and the completion of Zealios will be pushed back about 2 weeks, around the end of June instead of mid-June. There are seriously way too many vacation days in Asia...Dragon Boat Festival... *sigh*.
As always, I'll be placing my order shortly ahead of the GB end date to speed up production. Switch weight variants will then be capped based on the figures I've ordered. Don't wait til last moment to place your order, as your particular weight may be sold out!
Will also be visiting Gateron again early June and working on some new projects. Stay tuned™. Q3/Q4 2016 will be a wallethack year.

67g has the most defined bump, while 65g has a more "drawn-out" bump.
So i pretty much want to use this board for gaming such as CSGO and random other games which zealio would you recommend? the 78g intrigues me however im concerned about it being way to heavy.
I see that some people are saying that Zealios tend to be a little wobbly compared to Cherry's and Gat's. Has anyone used switch stickers or Polycarbonate's from zennas' GB to see if it makes any difference?

The wobble is not caused by bad fitment between the housings. The fitment between the housings is even better than on Cherry switches imho, so that stickers would be useless.
Hey Zeal, since you are doing the proxy for the Triviumtek Lustro would you be able to ship zealios and the case at the same time so I could save a bit on shipping?
Which bump is the most distinct compared to the 78g switch? 65g for a good middle ground for gaming/typing, 67g if you prefer to feel more bump. It's all personal preference, and how hard you type.

QuotePlease order in multiples of 10 to make my life easier.
Multiples of 10 for your order total or is that per switch type? For example could I order 5x62g, 5x65g, 5x67g, and 5x78g for a total of 20 switches or would I have to order 10x of each for a total of 40 switches. I'm guessing it's the later but I thought I'd ask. I'd like to make a sampler pack for myself since there are no more R2 sampler packs available. Maybe there will be an R3 sampler kit that I can wait for instead?
Just built up my Leeku CPSQ with 65g Zealios. Holy smokes! This is by far the best typing experience I've had. I have a set of 78g's on order for Round 3 and I'm stoked! They'll be pared with my Duck Octagon V2 when it comes in... I pound on my keyboard pretty hard so I'm excited for the tough bottom out. But I just wanted to take a second and thank you Zeal for this amazing contribution. I wish I would have taken the plunge with your switches earlier, as they're absolutely a pleasure to use. I even have one on a keychain so I can click away when I'm out and about haha. Thanks man!

Hey Zeal just wondering when the early buyers in this round can expect shipment? Middle of the month?
After playing around with the switches at home for a week i decided to go for 62g and 67g. Why anyone would like the almost linear 65g is beyond me but each to his own. The 67 has an amazing thump, and the 62g is so smooth it feels lighter than the Gateron brown. The brown feels like sand paper after using the 62g, but a lubed brown with 62g springs feels just as good or even better if you take into account the wobble the zealios come with. How it affects typing i dont know, since i have only tried one switch at a time in my hand from the sampler.
Go with the 67g or 62g. The 78g feels much like the 65g but with a bit more tactile feedback - pretty good, but not close to the 62/67 combo.
Just wondering when the deadline is...?

I'm pretty new to DIY keyboard stuff and this is probably a dumb question, but does the latest revision of the Planck keyboard kit from Massdrop support RGB LEDs? Still waiting for mine to arrive, looking forward to decking it out with Zealios (assuming I don't melt them by accident when trying to solder).
My daily is a lubed and silenced HHKB, which I love. But I want to build a custom MX board with something slightly heavier. I'm not a heavy typist by any means, but lubed HHKB can feel a bit light at times. Recommendations for my situation? Will 62g feel similar in weight to a stock HHKB even though it has a higher resistance in grams? Thanks! Looking to build a Sentraq S60-X with HHKB layout.
Thanks! A co-worker let me use his board with Cherry Clears all day today and I decided to go with the 65g. Though the Topre feel of the 67g is tempting, I can't imagine using a switch any heavier than the Clear. It's going to be a rough month waiting for my Sentraq to ship from Massdrop.

Is the rumor true that these are pre-lubed? Read that somewhere but lube is sold separately so I find it hard to believe. As a beginner in this crazy mech world should I opt for lube and do that myself?
Thanks for the info! I'll wait and see how they are per the image of Sir Zeal :cool:Is the rumor true that these are pre-lubed? Read that somewhere but lube is sold separately so I find it hard to believe. As a beginner in this crazy mech world should I opt for lube and do that myself?
Switchs are lubed very very lightly on certain points. Getting lube and do some hands on just makes them more custom to your likings. So it depends on you. Stock Zealios are perfectly usable.

As a beginner in this crazy mech world should I opt for lube and do that myself?I've installed both factory and self lubed Zealios. My opinion is that extra lube makes them even better. So good that I will actually desolder my factory lubed switches and replace with extra lubed.
Is it possible to 'switch' (no pun intended) between the different Zealio versions simply by replacing the springs? I ordered the 62g version, but I'm afraid they may turn out lighter than I'd like. If so, would normal Cherry springs be enough, or are Zealio springs different?

Aftermarket springs will work in Zealios no problem.

Thanks, but what I actually meant was: if I replace the spring in my 62g Zealio with a generic 78g Cherry spring, will my 62g Zealio become (virtually) identical to a 78g Zealio (save for slightly lighter colour of course)? In other words, are the springs in tactile Zealio switches all (except colour) that distinguishes between the different versions (62g vs 65g vs 67g vs 78g etc)?
I think I'm going to use these with some QMX clips I have lying around.QMX Clips are a bit too tight for Gateron switches. And they're only for PCB mount builds...I may or may not be working on a better solution ;)

There isn't a stock 78g Cherry spring, but if you do source an aftermarket one, the feel will all depend on how the spring is coiled, as different coil designs result in different feels.
Any chance for clear stemmed zealios in the future? Clear stems should be able to improve light distribution even more. Clear housing is an improvement, clear stem is the logical next step forward ;D

Not possible with POM. Any other material isn't as smooth.

Zealios are rated for bottom out. MX Clears bottom out at 100g. 65g/67g is no where close to the weight of MX Clears :P
Translucent =/= clear (transparent).
I'd rather purple than white.
Excuse me,
These switches are rated base off of "bottom out" force, so the 62g is actually light-er than Cherry Black (which has 60g actuation focrce), right?
I do like how heavy Cherry Black is, so which variant should I get? (a bit heavier than Cherry Black is fine)
I think I will wait for the next round, or I will buy the... erm... leftover ones.

That's correct. Cherry MX Black bottoms out at ~80g, so all of the current Zealio offerings are lighter than MX Blacks. Can't really comment on which ones to recommend for you as switch preference is a subjective thing, and tactile switches are nothing like linears.
The purple stem is a signature colour for Zealios. I don't plan on changing it anytime soon. I understand that translucent white is best for untinted lighting distribution, but in all reality, the MX design isn't the best when it comes to lighting uniformity anyways.

Those linear zealios have clear stems right? Do you still have some of them laying around? I want to see how clear stems affect light distribution. If you still have them I'd like to order some for myself.

I tend to keep the order open til switches arrive. Switches are currently in transit, and should arrive in 2-3days.
Literally the only difference between "plate" and "PCB" mount switches is 2 little plastic legs on the bottom. If you have a plate you don't need them, and they can be easily removed, but I'm willing to bet your PCB has holes for PCB-mount switches so in that case it absolutely doesn't matter which style you pick.Thank you! I guess I should be fine then with the plate mounted ones!

I get that the PCB mount option is the safest - because you can use it on either plate of PCB.
I was just hoping to get the "n00b" switches - i.e. those more tolerant to a beginners soldering efforts which I think are exclusively the 65 milky bottom PLATE mount version. That is why I haven't just gotten the PCB version already.

Yes, I'm packing/shipping orders as we speak. I've gotta get all the Canadian/Int'l small packet orders out asap too before Canada Post goes on strike July 2nd. July 1st is also a holiday here... >.<
Also upgrading Ontario/Quebec, etc (east coast) Canada orders to Xpresspost for free if they chose Expedited so switches arrive before July 1st. Don't want your guys' orders stuck at a sorting centre for weeks.
Will we get tracking as they get sent out? And when will you be shipping the ones to the states?

Only shipments via DHL have a tracking #. Canada Post Int'l Air does not have a tracking #, but packages generally arrive within 6-10 business days.
In R2, DHL delivered the switches to my country. Does this mean that international orders are not delivered by DHL anymore?
How long is the strike? I'm an American and our strikes usually just end with big corporations firing everyone and hiring new people at lower wages :'(

Got my Zealios today! Glad I dodged the Canada Post Strike Bullet. Thanks Zeal for making sure they made it out before that happened.
Got tracking for mine! Will DHL shipments to the US require signature?

They used to have a pretty strict signature policy, but seems like the policy has changed. Will have to depend on your driver and how "safe" your neighbourhood is. If you want to be 100% sure, you could always sign a sheet of paper to leave parcel at door and tape the sheet of paper on your door.
Can I use standard 3mm leds with zealios?!

What do you mean cherry profile? Like and keycap with an mx stem? Or cherry branded caps?

When it comes to soldering what type of solder is recommended? Also what wattage iron?!Is it important to have temp control or would I be fine with just say a 20 watt solder pencil

Do all orders get a shipping notification or only DHL orders. I don't think I will upgrade to the more expensive shipping anyways tough because my board won't get here for at least another month (zz96) so no hurry for my zealios to show up :)
Anyone in Europe got theirs yet? Curious to see how quick Canada Post shipping is vs. shipping from Asia (which is extremely quick in my experience, often less than a week).Got mine in Sweden yesterday. Got it less than a week after it got sent out.

That is fast... Did you kidnap a kindergarten class or something? Borrow santa's elfs?
Got my keys today. Again, super fast and hassle-free! Thanks Zeal! :thumb:
Got my order yesterday. Thank you once again for a perfectly executed GB.
Also ordered V3 lube for tactile switches. Can be used for both springs and stems, correct?

Got my shipping info (3x AND a text message :)) ) late last night and it's scheduled for delivery today. Color me impressed.
Interested in getting a pair of zealios 78g, or cherry mx clears to put on the red scarf from mass drop. Did R3 fix the SA keycap issues (wobble)? I am very interested in purchasing them, however, if I am about to spend $300 on a keyboard, I'd prefer not limiting myself on which keycaps I can put on. This will likely be my first (and hopefully) last keyboard.
Thanks for the input.
Really? I always have good service from DHL. Here in Norway it's generally known that FedEx is a joke, UPS is OK, and DHL is just now becoming a thing. It's almost the opposite here in the US. Domestic DHL is garbage. US Postal Service is maybe one step up. UPS is 50/50 depending on your region and your proximity to one of their major hubs. FedEx is premium and their prices reflect it.

Got my Zealios on a SUNDAY?! First time I've had good service out of DHL! Ordered 62g and 67g because I wasn't sure which ones I'd like. Definitely like the 62g better! Time to build a board! Thanks, Henry!

It seems international DHL is a different level of service than we usually get from them. I have never have a package arrive less than 18 hours from when it shipped unless it was coming from the next town over. :P I know DHL is considered much better in other parts of the world.
Everything arrived long ago, but just got done unpacking it. Got any tip on which lube (Thin or Thick) to use for Topre Sliders?
So, what is the time frame for R4? :)

August, with 3 other new products to be released concurrently.
Or just invisible switches. Why go half way, right? Why stop there? Physical inputs are obsolete. Let's go full-on mind control. Zeal is the hero Gotham deserves.
Zeal, how about SMD LED compatible Zealios? I know Zealios are already transparent, but with SMD cutout at the bottom, it will allow them to be mounted flush with the PCB. I also think they will still be compatible with regular through-the-hole LEDs. So no need to have 2 versions of Zealios to accomodate both types of LEDS.
Oh, and how about that clicky Zealio you mentioned several months back?

SMD compatible bottoms are not required for my upcoming RGB LED PCB.

Is there an information post about that anywhere? Is that one of the new products on the august time table?
I just started getting some repeated presses last night. Not sure what the change is. I heard this has been addressed, yes? Going for next round with heavier weights.
Odd, because it's my space bar and a couple of other letters (I remember "I" was repeating), but my space bar is a tactile gray, so not sure what's going on there.
I have the r1 Zealios and have been using my board since February.
So, has the chatter issue that affected some of R1 been completely fixed? Reason I'm asking is I've got a sneaking feeling some of my switches are chattering, but it's been bloody hard to test as I can literally write for hours before it happens, but sometimes I get two 'a's or a double space when it feels like I shouldn't have. I'm not 100% sure though, since it happens so rarely and I'm not all that precise of a typist anyhow.
I've been testing using the Elitekeyboard Switch Hitter tool, but it's pretty weird. Having the chatter threshold between 8 and 30 ms, it takes literally thousands of key presses before I get a possible chatter detection (my fingers hurt atm from spamming single keys lol). However, if I press my palms over big parts of the keyboard and press repeatedly, I get way more detections (spread over many keys, which I can't reproduce later most of the time, and I also get these sorts of detections on my trusty Topre board, which I understand don't suffer from chattering issues at all, albeit to a lesser degree). I've been trying two Phantom firmware versions, which are all 6KRO.
This was my first time soldering, and I used a cheapo, non-adjustable Ersa 230V/30W iron with a temp of 380C. I'm sure I didn't do a very good job, but I thought I was pretty quick on the switches near the end, and the ones I'm most suspicious of (A and space) are among the cleanest jobs I did, probably only spending 3-5 sec on them. In comparison I spent a ton of time on the Caps switch (easily 50-100 times more time in contact with iron than the other switches) with some sloppy desoldering, and that one has no chatter at all. I can provide some pictures if necessary.
I assume if the Zealio chatter issue is a thing of the past, then Strict's fix doesn't apply to my situation. Any idea what my next step should be?
What kind of solder do you guys use for installing switches?

romevi PM'd me later that day and confirmed that the issue was his old USB hub.
Temp seems quite a bit high, but will depend on what kind of solder you're using. With leaded 63/37 Kester 44, I solder at 650F/343C. Any regular mechanical switch can show up a bounce on switch hitter if spammed hard enough. Make sure your kb isn't plugged into a hub, and try again. In the event that you do encounter issues still, strict's fix still applies.
R4 when? ;D
Is there another Zealios GB planned? Right now everything is sold out..
R4 when? ;D
Zeal mentioned in r/mech only a week ago that r4 would hit in August, so if he's still on schedule it should be very soon now... Best get your wallet ready.
