CST LaserTrac 2545 Mod ... Lego My Balls

Strong work.  I definitely like the new mod better than the Sanwa mod.  It's a lot cleaner and more professional looking.

Super work, rip. Admiration and kudos.

I have a handful of those arcade buttons in Yellow. Whenever I see your beautiful black & red setup, I'm thinking they'd go well with that Black & Yellow bumblebee keyboard in the japanese threads.
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

I'm defiantly going to have to pick myself up a LaserTrac now. I like the idea of using cherry switches for the buttons as well.

Great mod BTW the only problem is I'm building up a list of stuff I have to get besides keyboards :)
Keyboards
Topre Capacitive: Realforce 87U, Realforce 86U, HHKB Pro 2, Topre MD01B0, Topre HE0100, Sun Short Type, OEM NEO CS (x2), NISSHO Electronics KB106DE
Buckling Spring: IBM Model M Space Saver (1291472), Unicomp Customizer x 2
Cherry Brown: Filco FKBN87M/EB, Compaq MX11800
Black Alps: ABS M1
Not so great boards Rare Spring over dome OKI, Sun rack keyboard

Trackballs - Trackman Wheel (3), Trackman marble (2)
Keyboards I still want to get - Happy Hacking Keyboard Pro 2 the White version, Realforce 23U number pad in black and maybe white, μTRON ergo board with Topre switches.
Previously owned - SiiG MiniTouch (White Alps), Scorpius M10 (Blue Cherry), IBM Model M13

That's right.  You can go and tell Kinsington to take their Expert and shove it.

Thanks for the great mod ripster. I had a lot of fun doing it.

The G key is a little crooked.. (first time cutting legos).

I might neat up the wires later. I also a dab of hot glue on the inside of the hole to keep the wires in place

The switch case is held onto the tracball with a couple pieces of circular velcrow.

OH THAT IS HOT!  My RSI is getting bad enough that I might have to spring for one.  I should have bought the one with foot pedals that sold on ebay a couple weeks ago.

looking for 2 Cherry MX Blue switches to do this mod. Also if i wanted to use larger keys that require stabilizers where would i get the stabilizer mechanism? I know that WASD offers the "Spring" and the insert but what about the part the spring snaps into on the keyboard body?

Larger keys are going to be tough.  Have you considered using Sanwas?
Yes, I have but you have to press them in (past flat) if I remember correctly. I would like to just press down. I would like to use a Backspace key (or possibly even a spacebar) and put one one each side of the trackball to be used with my thumb and pinky.

If i choose to go with the spacebar (which is looking good right now as you can press it really easily and from different positions) I could order additional switches and use them as dummy switches though I dont know how much this would really stabilize the key.

now that i did some more mockups the button on either side wont really work. and the only reason i wanted the button large is to be able to use it both when my hand is forward using the scroll wheel and when its back using the trackball. Looking like I will be doing the standard mod.

Looks GREAT!!!!

Now that most of the GeekGirlHaters have left Geekhack I'll give you a big one!

Thanks

As I note I used http://tinyurl.com/3puuab2 to weight down the switch boxes. It worked out really well. I got 15oz in the 5 switch and 6oz in the 2 switch.

Also im switching from what I used on my HHKB:

I have since switched to:

I bookmarked that Geckogrip stuff.

Fishing weights work too.  Plus it's fun to pound it.

I'm a bit confused about the three right side jacks. What are those for?  They tie into R/L/M click?
yea I liked the size though easy to fit anywhere and has double stick tape already on it.
