Oh my GOD yes I have been wanting a board like this for over a year now. It all started when I first saw a lightsaver.
The lightsaver 3.0 could well be over a year away.

the plating on the stabs from the previous kit were really inconsistent and more of an 'orange' than the bright gold i have typically seen (SPRiT, Originative, etc.) and the spacebar wire had some chips in it.
Yeah, I've noticed that they appear more orange than the SPRiT stabs I've used before.

Ah gotcha. I did a switch swap on a pok3r so I believe I'll be experienced enough for this. Do we have to solder the rgb leds or are you talking about the ones that go on the actual switches?

Oh man that looks nice. Can't wait for mine now. So does this GB come with the leds for the case like your build has? And how difficult are they to install? On my Satan GH60 it was just soldering a few extra wired, so would it be something similar?

There are probably some nee boards on the horizon because unique ones continue to pop up. Duck will probably release one similar to this but 60% + HHKB layout + numpad. MIRA looks nice as well if you like TKL.

Still working it out with Paypal. Breakpoints are unlikely, as I'm working with individuals rather than large for-profit companies like SP/GMK.

I'm willing to send you GW if that's what needs to happen, however I'll need my money back via Paypal first, and it'll take however many days it takes to credit back to my checking account before I can pay you again. I don't want to lose my place in line if you end up splitting into multiple shipments.

hey lunaris, i have some info that may be interesting to you. i just got off the phone with paypal, trying to head-off any of these issues for the phantom group buy. The rep told me that ANY transaction could be randomly frozen. (apparently no one knows the criteria in the system - it's just random) If that happens, the seller just needs to mark the item as "shipped" and the funds will be released within 7 days. Tracking does not need to be provided at this time, but can be added later. Your account is not frozen, just the transaction, and not every transaction. it is a case-by-case basis.

For installing in-switch LEDs, do I need to worry about resistors with the PCB? Most of the build logs people just solder the LED without a resistor, and I can't find a definite source to research this. All the Wikis are too vague or don't mention it. I'm also considering SIP sockets, but I don't think that will make a difference.

The RGB LEDs are pre-soldered, so the only thing to do is solder the switches (plus in-switch LEDs if you want).

I've never personally heard of Dwolla, can anyone speak from personal experience regarding using it? The thing is, he already refunded us international buyer on paypal. And now, he decided to try paypal again, and now we international buyers has to pay the invoice again. There would be no complaints Had he decided to use paypal for international buyers in the first place, and now us would not have this problem.

I'm contemplating just trying to squeeze the international orders through Paypal and hope it doesn't trigger a hold. If it does, I can refund those folks and pay the $5 in fees. Because using Paypal for international would be by far the easiest. I'm not comfortable with Skrill given its reputation, and Stripe requires a website to begin collecting money (which I do not have). That's two of the international payment processors out the window.
I originally triggered the Paypal hold at 40+ paid invoices. But according to the previous order form, the total number of international orders was only around 15. If my account is not on high alert after the recent events, I should be able to squeeze those payments past the system without issue.
So I think I'll try this out. I'm going to edit the form with this info.

Nice timing. I just wrapped up the domestic invoices and am about to get started on the international ones. Let's hope we can stay under the radar this time.
I thought I researched everything about this GB but realizing now that I don't fully understand the stabilizer situation.
There is a choice between PCB or screw mounted stabilizers. I picked screw mounted because it sounds like they are more stable, but I realize now that screw mounted is the vintage method and on the GB list most people purchased PCB mounted. Are there any concerns to go with screw mounted, especially as a first build? I'm inclined to follow the herd at this point.
Also, are these Cherry or Costar style?

There are 9 Dwolla requests pending and 4 Paypal invoices pending payment. I was able to successfully initiate withdrawal of the funds from all the paid Paypal invoices, so unless those get interrupted, we can assume that all of the international orders were able to go through successfully. Cue sigh of relief. Further international orders will have their invoices delayed until the current ones are paid off for the sake of fairness.
We still have 5-6 more days until the deadline to make payments, and I know some folks are still in the process of linking their Dwolla accounts or moving funds around to pay the invoices. So no pressure.

Guys, speaking of LEDs, I want to hear what you guys have planned.
This board already comes with a good number of LEDs installed. Is there much worth in installing individual switch LEDs?
I was thinking of going all out with sip sockets + individual LEDs, but can I be arsed? Not sure how much it would add.

That way you don't have to open a single switch and are able to swap the switch without desoldering the sip sockets in case you have a chattering one. You text is not really in context with the quote, but I assume you are adressing me.
I actually used a 2mm drill and drilled through the LED-leg holes on the bottom-half of the switch (2.5mm are still okay for cherry switches (2mm max. for zealios though, I don't trust that plastic that much), never use 3mm, way too big and damages the little tabs that hold the switch in the plate). My sip sockets fit perfectly through that hole, so I can swap switches without desoldering the sip sockets again. If you are interested I can send you some pictures so you are 100% sure what I mean.
Do note that drilling the switches will mean dust will more easily get into the switches.

Dwolla payments have a few remaining to be paid or are in the process of being paid. Just about everyone is good to go on the payments part, and I will be placing the order within the next week or two (since I'd like to transfer it all in one lump sum to minimize int'l wire transfer fees).

I bought this board pre-assembled from someone else. The way they assembled it, it doesn't have arrow keys. How can I modify the board to have arrow keys? I assume it will involve de-soldering and re-soldering switches.

Fronted the money for PCB fabrication, and added an extra hundred dollars for changing the PCB color to black (good news for those of you who said they didn't like the red).

I'm putting a board together w/ those stabs tonight to test out the feels.
Not super impressed by the appearance, but we'll see. Gonna be using my leftover 67g Zealios, stock. I have boards w/ the gold-plated stabilizers and regular Chinese stabilizers for comparison.

100 RMB is $15.26. If everybody added that, we'd be back to where we started. But I don't think there will be any more major problems w/ the buy - this was just very unexpected. The contingency fund is supposed to go towards payment for the one in charge of fulfilling the orders in the US (as it is a long and tedious task), stuff like this, and 1-2 replacements should severe accidents happen during delivery, which is why I'd like to reestablish it if possible.
Dude I am sure I am not the only that feels this way but thank for all your hard work. I am more than okay with paying the extra money so definitely send that invoice over when you get a chance. I can't believe how much you have dedicated to this group buy and when I say thank you I truly mean it from the bottom of my heart. I wouldn't call myself "experienced" but I have built a handful of boards. One hand-wired and two PCB keyboards. All built without an issue. (Except for the programming >:D ) If you don't find anyone else I'd be happy to help. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

My order is through a Friend in China and ít sent directly to Huan.But i cant contact with the designer of the case through some issue of contact.So confuse about the color until now.The dark blue should be similar with the black color right? I love my enjoypbt sets. Second to GMK. I like some accent colors though like Rgb mods.
I guess what bugs me about it more than anything else is that it doesnt have a 1.5u key I can use for Fn. I mean Im using the Ralt key but I'd rather have a proper label or a blank. I've got a 1.5u Fn in Quartz.

Hey guys, for those of you who have already assembled a ZZ96 i had a question about some technical details. Where did you find information regarding programming the board such as key assignments, LED functions for both the built in LEDs and additional in-switch LEDs if installed. Another noob question, what is the voltage on the in-switch LED pins? I have bought i've got some nice LEDs, but I am wondering whether i need to worry about resistors?
I am excited and have everything prepared. Got my Zealios lubed and sip socketed and got all my LEDs filed down to comfortably fit. That alone was already several days work!
Looking back through the thread the Titanium Grey had some color differences than the pictures. Will it be a dark grey as pictured? Thanks!

Screw-mount is undergoing seriously delays. I will probably have to swap to regular gold-plated PCB-mount or refund - trying to get it sorted out. I already paid for them, and if they finish before R2.5 is done, I'll make them available as an add-on.
I don't want to make stabs an option for r2.5 because it added a significant amount of time to sorting and packing, and I'm running a one-man operation over here. However, if they're prohibitively expensive to acquire for you, PM me. 1x 6.25/7u wire + 5x 2u (standard layout w/ arrow keys) will cost $9.
My brain works slow but was it possible to add an extra PCB to round 2.5 order? I only just now thought of this.

A bit late to the build party, but just finished mine up! Sadly I didn't have the ZZ96 in mind for the Pulse set when I ordered, so no TSA Fox kit. I'm making due with the 2u Function even though it is the wrong profile. And my Up is even more so wrong, but still loving it. The double 1.25u where I need 1.5u is absolutely killing me though. Not looking forward to trolling forums for grab bag rejects to fill that void...
Still absolutely loving the board. Glad it was my second custom build or I would've been struggling. Now to get to work banging out a new firmware for it. Need my keymappings back and a new backlight color.
Question for others who have built already: did you have trouble getting all 10 PCB screws in place? I could only get 7 of them in at the end, Plenty to keep it steady, but mildly annoying. Also, any advice on attaching the side diffusers? I saw mention of double sided tape somewhere, but that seems like a poor solution.

Shipping notifications have been sent. A couple more will follow in the upcoming week, and a selected few I will PM to discuss some issues with your order specifically, not about defects, but organization (I brought some cases over to the US to ship, and they are... still in the US, even though they should be sent to non-US destinations). This affects very few people and you will be notified very soon if you are one of them. I can arrange for them to be sent from the US via DHL, which will be more expensive than from China, but that's a non-issue - time is the biggest factor right now.

Good question, they are indeed 2x3x4 LEDs. At least that is what they were advertised as to me when i bought them on geekhack. And yes they did rub a bit on GMK profile caps. However, i simply sanded them down a tad, which was tedious, but totally solved the problem. You just have to rub the switch against sandpaper for a couple of seconds and it is sorted. LD updated the first post to say that a few kits were on the way to the reshipped and that we would get tracking when they arrived at the reshipper which sounds like he won't get until after the national holiday... like a week from now.
I do kinda wish he would say which ones he sent out and keep us updated on which ones weren't sent out and why... mostly cuz its delayed quite a bit from what he said originally. And then now I'm hoping every day I get a PM with some tracking info but I could be a month or two away if its sitting stateside waiting for feet or PCB.. would rather know one way or another so I don't have to get my hopes up! But what can you do right? I guess just try and forget about it and be happy when it shows up!

Can I get a picture of the "black double-sided tape"? I think you may be talking about the 4 pieces of case feet, but those shouldn't be thick enough to be mistaken as tape so I dunno.
There should be a mini hex wrench inside the baggie w/ the screws and case feet.

Extras should've been sent out a long time ago, but there are discrepancies between what I'm supposed to have and what I do have both in China and the U.S. I'm working on fixing those and making sure everything is where they're supposed to be in order to send things out because I'm currently missing plates and PCBs here and there. Thanks for bearing with me on this and I'm sorry to keep you and the others waiting due to my mistake in managing the parts.

Just got my ZZ96 today! Little customs charge from DHL but no biggie. Still less than what I have to pay for a board or keyset from Massdrop at half the price! Haven't assembled yet but looks good. One funny thing was that one pair of the rubber feet were not cut so I had to cut them into two myself. Loving this blue though.. Its going to look good with my Dangerzone SA but I think I want to try it with GMK/Cherry Profile. Kind of wish I got in on GMK Hydro now... hard to swallow at $170 though. Unsent orders in the U.S. are currently being sorted. Still awaiting PCBs being sent from China which is also why I haven't put up the acrylic kits for sale yet. They've finally been sent out and are now en route to the shipping warehouse. I plan for them to be shipped as soon as they arrive.
Got a few more international orders out. Currently there are 3 cases that arrived with major damage which I've put in orders to replace out of the group's contingency fund, which is nearly dry. Also, because of this, I've put in an order for custom packaging (for R2.5) and also beefing up my current packaging practices, including additional folds of bubble wrap on each corner of the case as well as foam inserts on all sides. And tape. Never too much tape. This is both because I can't afford to have another case arrive damaged, and because I don't want anyone else to receive a damaged case.
I have four kits remaining to be shipped in my room, one silver, one light gray, one red, and one black. A couple more in the U.S. I have the PCBs with me, but I believe some plates are in the U.S. -_- I'm tallying up the totals in both the U.S. and here so I can see if any plates are MIA. If so, I'm afraid you'll have to replace them with silver.
Bonus update: IMSTO's keysets appear to be nearing completion. http://sli.mg/a/Izj02v

Assembled but looking to make some tweaks and maybe add backlighting. Have 65g MX Clears in there and quite liking them on this board. Has a bit of flex in the plate/pcb up around the numpad area where there are no screws.. I think it would be improved if there was another screwdown point somewhere around there. Also the lowest left side screw hole doesn't line up with the PCB unless I pushed the plate and PCB all the way to the left but then the keys would rub at corners so I couldn't really use it. One of the RGB LEDs had a solder pad that was a cold joint and I had to redo it because it would change colors if you pushed on the LED.
At any rate, still very good bang for buck and a great layout. Very happy with this board. Stuck the Danger Zone SA keycap set on it but not totally convinced. Know anyway I could get a Silver aluminum base Lunaris? I have a silver RS96 and would love the aluminum bottom piece below the acrylic in place of the feet I'm using.
The RS96 I have is the one with the entire aluminum case with the flat acrylic bottom. Would the ZZ96 aluminum bottom even be compatible with that?

Installed some backlighting last night and what I think will be the final keyset that will sit on this board maybe add some artisans. The 7u stab wire is a bit sticky.. it makes the spacebar get stuck down a bit sometimes.. hard to change that now but I might desolder the space bar switch and fiddle with the stab a bit. This board is also higher than most of my other boards and I feel like my wrist rest is a bit too low with it. I wonder if removing the diffuser layer will make it better. I cobbled the list together from the GSheet created by the form responses from the GB. It didn't have the changes that I made to my local copy (because I can't copy data from Excel and paste into GSheet). A couple things are off/missing but not left out of manufacturing. The GSheet's been updated with what I believe were left out. Again, PM or drop a msg here if your name's missing.

Miscommunication with the designer on that aspect. Last I said it would be about a week to estimated completion of manufacturing, but he was referring to the CNCing, not the anodizing. So that's currently going on. I expect to get the boards in and shipped out before Christmas.
Also will make a Google Sheet later for everyone to check their order status.

To be fair, Lunaris is a full time medical student, and he's worked hard to source all these amazing projects. His track record is good, and I'm sure he will fulfill and update everyone very soon.

r2.5 and r2 remakes arrived today. Some 60-70 kilos (about 150 lbs - no, I don't even lift bro) of stuff hauled up 6 flights of stairs by yours truly (totally gonna say that every time I get GB stuff in). Sorting them right now in my shoddy work area. PMs still need to be replied to.

Working on a packaging solution. Two or three cases arrived dented by USPS last time and I don't want that to happen again - would only multiply the wait and cause lots of grief (the replacements for those are in this current shipment I'm working through). I honestly thought they were packed perfectly and don't know what the hell happened. I don't have decent packing material in the US and am unable to find good substitutes, so I'm probably going to ship some boxes and packing material I ordered (those bundles of white foam in the back of the pics) to the US and use those. Due to the influx of Christmas mail from everywhere, USPS/DHL will definitely run into delays. But rest assured I am working on it, and nothing is missing.

Ok guys, it's 8:46 PM here, there are a couple things you all deserve to/should know:
1. It's finals period, **** is whack.
2. Apart from the remakes, there were various parts that were missing/lost during transit. Will spare you all the details but they have been accounted for now, and everything that is missing should be packed with the v2.5 & v2 remakes shipment, which is slated to arrive at my place tomorrow. I will commence shipping on remaining v2 orders, then v2 remakes, then v2.5.
2.a. A large part of why things went unaccounted for/missing was my lack of experience, the size of the v2 buy, and the fact that I neglected to tally up everything and where they were going to. This is on me, the delays are all on me, I'm sorry.
2.b. For the v2 remakes - I was notified last minute (literally one week before now, after everything was nearly complete) that they were made at the new factory (which had a higher cost of anodizing than the old) and tried to get as close to the old color as possible. We'll find out tomorrow just how close they are, and if you're still not satisfied, it'll have to be either a refund or continued waiting, but waiting is really not worth it at this point, especially with LSv3 on the horizon. I understand if you'd like a refund if the color is significantly off since that was the whole point of the remake, and will do my best to accommodate.
3. Sorry for not responding to PMs in a timely fashion (or at all). The pressure is kinda getting to me and I've been trying to set PMs aside to get my mind back to where it needs to be (even though, honestly, here is where it needs to be until things are wrapped up).
4. I will go through and respond to all outstanding PMs tonight and tomorrow. If you have not received a response within12 hoursp(sorry, make that 24), please send me another PM for a status update.
5. If you are interested in the outcome of my visit to the police station: I will be fined up to $1.6k and/or detained (read: jailed) for 3-10 days, with the possibility of being deported from China. No, I didn't do anything illegal, I just didn't know that I had to apply for a residence permit and am 3 months overdue... which I guess makes me an illegal immigrant. The irony is tangible.

V1 didn't come with side diffusers - the V1 PCBs did not have RGB LEDs over the holes on the sides to diffuse out.
I'm fine with sending a set your way if you wanna try to make it work.
Btw did the package arrive? Last I saw it was stuck in transit from USPS, and I don't have the tracking # saved on this computer I'm using so I can't check.

Because it's much easier to pull a whole switch out than it is to pull the top off, pull the stem off, switch springs, put the stem back on the spring and put the top back on?

Then you have another issue. The PCB is supposed to have two GPIO-controllable LEDs (Caps Lock and Num Lock). They aren't configurable on location, they are hardwired. The rest of the LEDs are in one relay-controlled matrix.
I've built 2 R2 units, both needed no special machinations to support in-switch LEDs for Caps and Num lock.

For Num Lock. Up to down is "normal LED mode" and side to side is "indicator mode".

They are optional diffusers for the light. You can put them on using some double sided tape

This Whitefox build guide is a pretty good place to start... Talks about all the essentials you'll be tackling and has some ok video examples.

Things to watch for: check your desired layout and place your stabs before you start soldering!! The PCB will support a variety of key layouts, so think about how you want it to behave (ie: want an arrow cluster? 6.25 or 7u space bar? etc...). Also, make sure you have a keyset for your desired layout- if you want arrows, you'll need a short right shift. Most keysets support that, it's standard-ish, but an off-the-shelf 104 key set will not have that bad boy in there. You'll probably have to flash your layout as well and at a glance, I'm not sure what this PCB is- winkeyless? Think so since jjwax mentioned bootmapper client. Oh, and lube for your stabs (for sure) and switches (recommended)... whole 'nother ball of grease there. Plenty of good lube guides and videos out there.
I haven't built mine yet, it's just cleared customs in LA and presumably headed for AZ (unless I get Aperture'd... sorry man), so can't help with all the specifics of the ZZ96 build yet. Ah yeah sorry, I meant RGB LED's. Will this board only support single color LED instead of an RGB LED on each switch? I'd rather not solder additional RGB SMD LED's to the top of the PCB so if not, I'm cool with the single color.

Awesome thanks for the info! I used to solder the chip mods in the old Xbox so I should be able to handle it, but definitely practicing is in order so I don't blow up this sweet keyboard. I took the PCB out of the case and flipped it over to find all the little bits and chips are all soldered in (which I think I saw mentioned previously but was freaking out I guess thinking I'd have to do that myself). So you're right, looks like all I need to do is figure out what switches I want, layout + keycaps, and then solder it up.

I'm glad you brought that up. :-) I bought the ones from LD but I'm a little confused. In build log pics I've found from Reddit, I see the stab wires are mounted under the plate. Does that mean the wires don't connect to the keys but just the ends of the stabs? Seems like a strange way to do it but I don't know jack so thought I would ask you fine folks here.

Correct, the stab wire just keeps the 2 stab inserts moving in tandem to actually stabilize the ends of the longer keys! So it doesn't matter if its below the plate and it likely gives the wire less room to jiggle and potentially pop out of the stabs.

aaron's getting a replacement made for his top frame which will likely take a month or two.
I also got my board and noticed that the bottom stand offs don't line up with the PCB, but there's plenty of standoff so hopefully it'll be stable.

just stick a neodym on the screwdriver, the flux should be strong enough to pick up a little screw (if they are ferrous)

Did anyone else buy an acrylic kit?
Got mine in the mail yesterday and built it right away. This thing looks amazing, is built like a tank, and is super thocky and deep. I've never felt a board that's this nice, and I'm absolutely in love.
I only have one complaint for the board, everything else has been perfect for me. The plate screws were pretty hard to drop into the plate, and two screws on the bottom don't line up with or screw into the case. Luckily, it still feels sturdy enough, but it's still kinda a bummer.
Anyone know the angle of the ZZ96?
Angle of the LSV3 is a little too steep. I'm debating on holding off on LSV3 if the angle of the ZZ96 is a little flatter.

Finished mine yesterday. First time building but not a novice to soldering at least, so that was the easy part! You would think dismantling 100 Zealio switches to put SIP's in would have been the worst part, but by far the worst was trying to screw the completed board to the case. I managed to lose two screws in between the switches and spent about an hour with a paperclip to fish them out. Phew, awesome board though, super glad with the outcome. Thanks LD!

I'm happy to say that this buy has finally been (mostly) wrapped up, with the exception of two missing cases (maevy and MandrewDavis) who I will respond to later today (sleep deprived as all hell right now), and some replacements for r2 that need to be sent out. Seeing these boards reach their destinations safely (after some sacrifices that were made during r2) has been a heartwarming sight to behold, and I hope you're all enjoying yours as much as I'm enjoying mine right now. I'm pretty sure this will be the last "major" buy I do ("major" for me being order counts of 30+), but I'll be back with stuff in moderation from time to time, and hopefully improve my track record of severe delays with every buy.
I first started doing group buys because, being Chinese American, I have the opportunity to get in touch with both the Chinese and Western side of mechanical keyboard communities. After I saw lastpilot's GON Nerd Crystal TKL which prompted me to build a fully decked-out B.87, I needed jelly POM keycaps. But there were none to be had on mechmarket or with Western vendors. Hell, many vendors that exist today weren't even here back then. So I dug through old GH and reddit threads, scoured Taobao, and eventually found a couple suppliers with limited stock. After talking with a buddy of mine and buying a couple sets to verify that it's the real deal, we decided to go all in. Thus went my first group buy for jelly POM keycaps. Next thing that caught my attention was a RS96. Same process, found some folks who were making the ZZ96, and hopped on board. i kept hunting for interesting stuff on the Chinese side to bring over here, but that's no longer necessary. There are plenty of vendors and individuals alike who are actively seeking out opportunities to bring niche products to the community, and I commend them for it. I've a few small projects planned, but after that, I think I'll be able to "retire". I've enough boards and am satisfied with the sets I've got, and I don't have to worry about hidden jewels staying hidden with so many active and helpful members of the community working for everyone's benefit.
The mechanical keyboard communities have enriched my past year and a half greatly and I thank all of you for being there and playing a part. Seriously, thanks guys. I look forward to seeing what new heights the community can achieve.
Stupid question. I grabbed up some stabilizers from switchtop that are PCB mount. Will they work well with this board? And what is everyone else using for stabs?

I just signed up because google told me group buys were on here for the zz96.Pretty much, the GB period is over and extras have been sold. You may still be able to purchase an acrylic kit though. In the future, Input Club and ThesisCamper are putting out a 96key board called the Kira so maybe look into that.

I've always found a 2u plus sign on the numpad to be a waste of space, doing it this way allow me to have pg up and down stacked on top of each other, in a more logical manner :thumb:
It's also a carryover from my favourite layout (Cherry 1800) and old habits die hard.

so curious to round 2 people. I have questions about leds. Are all the led dimm on the board except the number lock and cap lock? Or am I doing something wrong. I can clearly see that the brightness is much differnt from num lock to the key next to it. It seems like they are getting more voltage and much brighter..Anyone care to give input on this ???

The backlighting LEDs are moderated by the LED brightness slider in BootMapper Client. The lock indicators are full on/off. Try adjusting the slider and see if you can get them to a brightness evenness you can live with. Keep in mind, the firmware will limit the current if both the RGB and backlighting LEDs are on.
