I love anything from Miyazaki and Ghibli and am still very very jealous of Ripster for getting to goto the Ghibli museum.
Sorry back to the task at hand and since I posted again I will rate Reaper at 8/10 cool image is that from an animated Batman movie or something?

It's getting late, also I don't prefer that style so I go with 5/10
(Hope's the keys still find me)
That looks scientific to me and its cool. 8/10
- focus
- for poor iso/resolution (cellphone camera?)
looks like it's a picture of a scientific calculator?
it's a Sinclair ZX spectrum
Oh... 1/10 then.
As for avatars, Mr A500 looks like a fine upstanding young man, but I'm not into fine upstanding young men, so I will only rate the gopher. Gophers are also 2/10, since, like Sinclair computers, they are good only for target practice.
It's not that I object to mice drinking moonshine, but your name is Daniel Beaver... and that's clearly not a beaver.I did not choose my name. It was my Father's name, as it was his Father's before him.
a ducky yes, but is the 9008g2 tiger, which from my own evaluations is better than my filco
10/10 - without context it may be lost on me but those eyebrows are just superb. haha
I'm surrounded these days by hissy fit Senior Member ****s.
I never realized how fitting the whole *facepaw" feel of the avatar would be for this forum when I first selected it...
I have no idea who that is in your avatar but I like to think that he is called Zultan.
7.5/10
Actually the background adds interest to the pic. Gives it that Eastern bloc flavor.Show Image(http://geekhack.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=20394)
if ripster's avatar has a whip, it would be a 10/10. Now it is 8/10 for me. Rate me!Well, she has poison-tipped daggers in her shoes and a gun, no whip near as I can recall.

I give that one a solid 9. I can't tell if it's an east german lesbian squad commander or andy warhol. Can nobody identify her but me? Maybe showing my age. How are you doing didjamatic, been a while, hope things are going well.

one above me i give a 7. Because I dont know what it is but it looks pretty sick
It's a 1967 Invac Photoelectric keyboard for a keypunch terminal. The center display is 2 nixie tubes and it weighs about 20 lbs. The mechanism in it is very complex and prevents you from hitting the keys in unsupported sequences to reduce errors. It's my favorite keyboard in my collection. (Not usable on any modern PC)
Russians love tubes. And guns.

The previous TexasFlood avatar was better!Geez, getting picky here, You may be getting to fancy, going beyond my abilities here. But I took a shot. Is that something like you had in mind?
hint: What about Texas in sand-beige (or something like that) which is floodded and then un-flooded, etc.

I'm limited on frames due to avatar size restrictions. Might be better to have a semi-transparent sand colored Texas maybe changing from 50% to 75% every few frames. Just thinking out loud. Probably not work a lot more time,.

I have come to the conclusion that Avatars and Sigs will NEVER please everyone at Geekhack.
This TexasFlood is awesome.Totally agree. I saw him play that more than once on in Austin at Auditorium Shores on the bank of the Colorado river. Now there's a statue of him there, no more live shows from SRV, :-( And I'd love to put that in my Avatar but think it's a bit beyond the scope of what you can do with a GIF. But you inspired me to go back to a SRV picture.
That was fast. I was going to suggest this but I like yours better.Had it saved up "in the can" from a while back, just had to find the folder I'd saved it in, :biggrin:Show Image(http://www.artbympm.com/images/s/art19.jpg)

Slightly bigger version of it has been here all along (http://geekhack.org/member.php?3337-TexasFlood).Show Image(http://www.artbympm.com/images/s/art19.jpg)
TexasFlood gets 3/10 - because the guy claims to be tasting white ALPS when he's clearly tasting the case, not the switches. You're messing with me now,
It's a pity. I would have given the last avatar 10/10 - because it appropriately showed Texas... and a flood.

5/10 TexasFlood, would have prefered the same idea with a different picture such as switches swimming in milk!Maybe at some point I'll take another shot at it. As I said the context when it was done was during the Geekhack Space Saver photoshop contest so in that context it had to be a GHSS. Might revisit it at some point though.
You're messing with me now,
I'll give you 5/10 unless you can explain to me why a goat is coming out of that Amiga...
Why wouldn't a goat be coming out of an Amiga? As you can see, the goat just got hit with the Amiga "boingball" and that's why he's freaking out.I have no comeback to that so raising your rating to 6/10,
I created that avatar using my Amiga 500. (my last avatar - picture of me - was also created on the A500)
6/10
It grabs me... but it doesn't throw me across the room.

I was just kidding about the rating. I'd probably have to give you 6/10 or better. I don't know what it is really but keep looking at it to try and figure it out. And my beagle will get your kitty.
No, no. My kitty will get your beagle.Your kitty will drown if it tries anything!
I have no idea but it reminds me of old video games so 8/10 :)
I like the lettering on that Rosewill pixel art.Well you recognized the keyboard so guess I did well. The Vendetta image isn't that original but is striking. "Wait! Here comes the crescendo!" - My first 10/10, possibly unfairly influenced by the warm fuzzy of your kind comments.
10/10

As for yours, well it's a classic original, and I'll rate it... 11
K, I'm gunna go with 9/10 for ya TexasFlood =)
You get a solid score for having a keyboard in your avatar and for having an animation pounding away at the keys.
I would have given it a 10/10 but I dig when the user name relates in some way to the avatar. Perhaps a keyboard in the sink, tub, puddle (drowning)? Maybe a keyboard sitting on some cracked earth (for the irony I suppose). =P
I also liked the Texas outline one on the water ripple background. That was a solid one as well.
=)
It's a red pill, I want to eat it so I stay in Wonderland and be shown how far the rabbit hole goes. 8/10
Probably the best "cute Korean girl" avatar I've seen at GH. 10/10
It is from old video games. Two of them, actually.
Seconded. Move to adjourn?
She's a cutie all right.
Yours in interesting, although I know little able Marceline so 8/10 might be higher if she meant more to me.
Does she ever open her eyes? ;-)
OMG! I think I know what that's from... Dynamix (Jeff Tunnel) incredible toon machine or whatever (the goofy spinoff from the incredible machine).
The blue orb kind of reminds me of hexen or doom or something...
... and I only played Descent a couple times in 1996. How's that for obscure game memories?
Visual objects are a lot more memorable and stimulating :)
I actually heard of descent before, but never analyzed the front cover art (or actually played the game to see that blue orb). OMG I'M MISSING OUT. Time to fire up the 300PL.
Well, if anyone's interested in playing the game you can get Descent 1 and 2 for $6 at GoodOldGames (http://www.gog.com/en/catalogue). Descent 3 with it's expansion is another $6. To tap into the Descent community(yes, there's still something around), you'll want to hit up Decentbb.net (http://www.descentbb.net/).
I should play it again myself. Can't imagine how bad I'd be at this point.
I give EverythingIBM 8/10 for the rainbow avatar - because (appropriately) everything in the picture is by IBM and I've always liked rainbows created by prisms. (and at least it gives colour to boring beige computers)
1 point is lost because of the beige wall in the background. If that was a different colour, it would emphasize the beige computer and make it stand out more.
Edit: 1 more point lost because the picture is blurry. It should be sharpened to bring out the logos.
I always love playing a good game of DOOM or STRIFE now and then. But does descent have good music? The visuals certainly are nothing to brag about.
I always love playing a good game of DOOM or STRIFE now and then. Was STRIFE ever popular? It was one of the finest games built around Doom engine. It even had alternate endings.

The visuals were AMAZING in 1995. Just sayin. I remember some sweet MIDI music.
You should really play D2X-XL.
An updated engine to use the old game under modern windows, with updated graphics and shadow/light effects.
It's free and it still works perfectly under Win7 x64 (obviously you still need the original DOS game, because the maps/sounds/ and so on.)
You'll notice the graphics resemble that from "raptor: call of the shadows" cause the guy who made that.....
I know you where just saying something, but Raptor: Call of the Shadows completely sidetracked my train of thought. Now that was a good game. That's another one GoG has, updated to work on modern machines. I hear you on the physical copy of a game thing, it's something I've stuck to so far as well, but since GoG updates games to work on modern machines and doesn't use any DRM, it's about as good as you can get. Better, in some cases. Old physical copies of Descent 2 require the CD in the drive.

I used to have a Microsoft sidewinder, the old school ones and got it off craigslist for 5 bucks. Then royally pissed off my sister and now it "disappeared." The sidewinder was only bought to kick it with Descent I and II just like the old school days. One day i'll blow my nostalgic fantasies all over the wall, one day...

Ancient Greek water fountain statue...The hands are fish and water comes out of the mouth...Or, it's an ancient ship "lady on the front of the ship.
I would rate this a 8/10 if that's true.
Edit: This was for hydroid's avatar but someone else commented while I was typing.
I like Korean girls (I married one), but it's only good to have a Korean girl as an avatar if you are one. I don't want to be talking somebody, thinking they're a cute girl, then find out it's just a guy with a girl avatar. That is very disturbing.
Who DOES like Canadians?

The whole concept of an avatar is that it is a representation of your own persona. Having a female represent the persona of a guy is somewhat.... gay. (...not that there's anything wrong with that...)
10/10 Avatar and post!
You'll find Vintage Keyboard people tend to be grumps.

I'm not being cranky. I'm calmly giving my opinion. That is the point of posting in forums, isn't it?
My last avatar was a photograph of me - but I didn't say the avatar had to be a photograph. I said "representation of persona". It is a projection of how people should see you. If I see a female avatar, I think I am talking to a female.
Ah, the Golden Age of Itlnstln/Webwit/Ripster/Chloe.Says the scrooge who wants to do away with my animated avatars, bahahaha. But have to agree, it has gotten a bit grumpy here at times lately. I just ignore it, stuff can't get to you unless you let it.
Now it's just me and a bunch of Senior Geekhacker Grumps.

Would you assume that someone whose avatar is, say, Patrick Stewart, is male? Would you be shocked and disturbed to learn that that person is actually female?
Now you are trolling.
No idea about hashbaz's avatar, but I'm sure it gives Tim Burton fans a stiffy.
