COME ONE COME ALL! WE HAVE EVERYTHING! TKLs! 60%! SMALLER THINGS!
FORM HERE (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScnJ0EW0SdH5785GTmWRmUkAuIk65KTLsZnnF911oM_XDfhjg/viewform?usp=sf_link)
Instead of doing a singular 40% GB, foggyflute are considering offering four mini-boards (JD40, JD45, Planck, Minivan), the two cases offered in previous buys (TKL [B87 or nerD compatible] and 60% [Standard and HHKB compatible]) and two brand-spankin' new offering (65% and a keypad/numpad). Orders will take place for these simultaneously using a single order form, so feel free to order any combination of cases that your heart desires.
General material specs are as follows:
~ 1.6mm matte carbon fiber
~ Frosted white/solid black acrylic midpiece
~ Switch-mount PCB
~ M3 screws/posts
~ Acrylic feet (angles will be 7 degrees for TKL, 65%, and 60% and 5 degrees for 45%, 40%, and Keypad/Numpad)
Pricing:
TKL (nerD V2/B87): $149 + shipping
65% (22mini rev-B/Tada68) $109 + shipping
60% (Standard/HHKB): $99 + shipping
45%( Minivan/Planck/JD45): $~89 + shipping
40% (JD40) $~89 + shipping
Keypad (Cospad?): $~59 + shipping

Filled in the form.
It's early, so I could just be getting confused, but doesn't "<7 degrees" mean anything smaller than 7? shouldn't it be the other way around? :))
-
Did you really mean 1.6cm and not 1.6mm?

I do not. changed :thumb:
could you wip up something for the lets split...don't know how long before mehkeys get ahold of the trrs jacks and i can't source them but i would for sure be down to grab a carbon fiber plate case/sandwich to put on the back burner
probably gonna just try and stick to the cases I have now. Just looking for major keypads to get the compatibility of

I'd say check the old GB thread for some pics, but pretty standard variety of enter and bottom row compatibility

The 60% are so popular even in this IC that if I do it, it'll probably be it's own GB after this. I'll definitely earmark it and get some stuff planned out though.

I filled out 60% in the form but if you're offering 65% I would get that instead

I would love to see this in 65% or 75%. The lack of options between 60% and TKL is kind of disappointing.

Woot on that. I'd love to build one not in the CNC case.

The plate just supports MX at the moment to my knowledge, but that is an idea. I messaged foggyflute to see if it is costar compatible. And the price does include the midpiece, only in the first CF-LX did it not :thumb:

Dope!
MX is all I would need, as someone on reddit said SKCC fits pretty well in MX plates but not Alps plates, which seems to be true. Costar would be nice so I can stabilize the spacebar, although I could probably work out a mod, if needed.

OK so I don't really how to make the question more clear on the form, but when I ask what keypad PCB compatibility you'd like to see, I was referring to keypads, not 60% (which is almost literally the only thing I've gotten so far). I'll probably just end up making them compatible with the FC210TPs and the Majetouch keypads, so standard with the 4-key on top.

Not interested in the keypad so I didn't fill it out (I like a 5x5 layout for that, personally) but the Cospad seems to be a popular one.
BTW, some people might be confused because most, as far as I know, call it a numpad.

Well, I usually just knew it as keypad distinguishing it as a seperate thing. But yea, I'll change it in the form just in case. I'll look into the Cospad too.

What boards would you all like to see compatibility for? MOQ is 5 for anything new, so if y'all are for the same board (or boards that are compatible with one another) I'll see what I can do.
-
https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=94467.0
I'm not sure what the best 65% pcb would be since there really isn't several big ones besides maybe Tada. I do like the layout options for Krelbit's MEME project.
-

For 65%, I'd recommend making the case compatible for the Sentraq65/Tada68/Winkeyless 22mini-B since all three have pretty much the same USB placement and you can buy the PCB alone.

None of those have upgraded to USB-C right? And do they do QMK? USB-C and QMK are kinda what I'm personally looking for in almost all my purchases moving forward.

They started putting ****in USB-C in boards? Man, I've fallen behind lol... The board you posted seems to have basically the same layout I've seen on most other 65% boards. So as long as they share screw and USB placements they should be fine. Even if some are micro-USB and some are USB-C, as long as the hole is large enough to accommodate C we should be fine.
-

Nope, none of them has USB-C but AFAIK all three can run QMK.
However I do remember reading something about KBDFans bringing out a PCB with USB-C, Bluetooth and TMK that fits the TADA case. Here it is (https://kbdfans.myshopify.com/blogs/news/ble-yd68v2-65-pcb-coming-soon).
-
I totally forgot about that one. Battery space would unfortunately be an issue trying to fit it into this CF case though?

Battery placed where?

I think that KBD bluetooth 65% will need to have case considerations for a battery area: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1473/3902/files/7_d3a6a939-e57c-46e8-9069-77296e1613a4.jpg?v=1521018382
I dunno how much you want to wade into specific design changes to accommodate different 65% pcb (bluetooth or not). I don't have enough detailed knowledge but it would take a bit of research to see what 65% are out there and figure out their differences in terms of USB position, bluetooth or not (and battery space case changes), etc.

Space between the PCB and case bottom would obviously be a problem (I'm not sure it would fit at all currently). Also, adding something to the bottom CF plate to ensure the battery doesn't slide around (though I suppose one could just tape it down).
-
Yeah, ultimately it depends on how ambitious you want to be with the 65%. The reason why I particularly like the MEME pcb is because of USB-C, QMK, and split spacebar options (I don't think any 65% has this option yet?).

Agreed. Also, I don't care about usb-c or wireless; mini usb is just fine.

Accounting for usb-c doesn't really require much change at all, if any. Probably just extending the hole by a few mm

Is it possible to order only the diffuser and black spacers? I was part of the first group buy.

My preferred 65% is probably more the FC660/Clueboard variety, but honestly I would be fine with Tada68 support.

Once foggy is finished up with finalizing all the case designs, we should be ready to get this show on the road. Considering the level of interest there was for the last round of cases, I've been surprised by the great numbers I've seen for this IC, meaning we should be able to hit MOQ on all the case styles we had originally hoped. Hopefully you all keep your word come GB time :))

Yo, hwood.
I was enjoying my TKL from the last round and I had a though/question. Do you know of a place where I could get screws for the top of the case that are just like the ones you supply but black? Love my CF board. It sounds and feels magnificent.

By the way, in case anyone is interested in increasing the light output through the diffuser in this board.
I'm using a B.87 board from winkeyless. The RGB leds on the bottom are very bright. However, this case was created to be a slim as possible, thus the RGB leds sit very close tot the bottom, not allowing all of their light to shine out.
So, here's what you do. Get some reflective tape and line the inside bottom of the case! It almost doubled the brightness. It's perfect this way. I'm not sure if it's conductive or not but I haven't had any shorts after several month's use. Either nothing is touching it, or it's not conductive. You could use white paper too, but the reflective tape was brighter in my tests. Also, the paper will have to be taped down good b/c if it wrinkles upwards at all, it will make the matter worse.
I found the tape at Lowes by the mailboxes and stuff. It's cheap and it is easily removable.

We could definitely make it USB C compatible by just making the cutout a tiny bit bigger, so I don't see why we wouldn't do both ;)

Two most popular 65% boards: go
-
Two most popular 65% boards: go
Lvl 1: Tada68 and S65-x
Lvl 2: White Fox
Lvl 3: Canoe and M65-A
Ultimate: Zephyr and Noxary 268
I personally own a TX65, Tada68, a Canoe, a M65-A, a 268 (waiting for cerakoting though), a LFK65(smk) and a LFK65 Hotswap. I'm a pretty big fan of 65% layout :)
I also own a TKL from your last round. 65% carbon fiber is going to be the balls. Can't wait.
oh snap, I forgot the winkeyless one. I do like that one because it has the switches facing the right way. I plan to use a PCB with the switches facing so that the logo is properly oriented (with the LEDs on the bottom of the switch). Honestly, that's all I care about as far as PCBs. I'm easy to please :)
-
Clueboard. Superplate all the way.
-
Ok, so a better question I see would be: which two compatibility versions would yield the most universal options that would appeal to the most people?
lol
-
Tada68-compatible PCBs are probably the easiest to find and would have the most appeal. Beyond that I'm not sure. The Whitefox is reasonably popular but can you even get the PCB on its own or do you have to get a whole kit? It's also not that different from a Tada68. I know Clueboard does sell their PCBs by themselves and the layout is a different style from the Tada68 type so that would be a reasonable second option. I do like their PCB as well, but that's just my opinion.
-

lol
I think it's a niche within a niche honestly. Most of the 65%s seem to come in kit form, so it would be the ones that really want to build a CF keyboard that would benefit. As stated above, CB does sell separate PCBs. Not sure if TADA68 or Whitefox still sell the PCB separately, so someone would really have to want to change their case in order for this to benefit them. The Sentraq S-65X does sell it separately. It's a bit different from the newest Whitefox (which uses 6U spacebars for some reason, instead of the 6.25 of the original).
-
I plan to buy a case and I would prefer to use the 22mini-B x2

Tada68 PCBs are available from kbdfans. If you order the PCB by itself with no plate, stabs, or case, it's $35. That's probably the cheapest, most readily available 65% PCB:
https://kbdfans.cn/collections/65/products/tada68-pcn?variant=3201133346829
The recent LZ CLS ms group buy offered M65 and Noxary 268 PCBs as options. Keyclack still lists M65-A PCBs in their store, but only the ps2avrgb version not the QMK, and getting jchan/keyclack to actually ship your order seems to be hit or miss. The LZ CLS ms group buy is the only time I've seen Noxary 268 PCBs sold outside of the Noxary 268 GB; I don't know if xondat is willing to sell them separately. Other people mentioned the Sentraq and Winkeyless. There's also this one from LF Keyboards:
https://www.lfkeyboards.com/lfk65-hotswap.html

YD65 has USB typeC and RGB underglow. A bit more expensive than the Tada but looks like it has the same layout.

I plan to buy a case and I would prefer to use the 22mini-B x2
https://winkeyless.kr/product/22mini-b-x2-pcb/
So it looks like these all really have the same layout and USB location, so just one version should do it for most people. Guess that's what we'll go with.

I'm trying to get it from the pictures, but can anyone with the boards actually confirm what the bottom row configuration options are for the Tada and 22mini?

YD65 has USB typeC and RGB underglow. A bit more expensive than the Tada but looks like it has the same layout.

The clueboard has a different configuration, as does the whitefox. Just FYI.

The Clueboard is the same layout as the Leopold 660, and not really the same as any of these. Those are wider boards, and not really 65% (Clueboard is advertised as a 66%). The Whitefox Vanilla layout is the same as a Tada68, though.

I'm probably the worst person to answer this, but I'm sitting here with an unbuilt Tada68 PCB, some switches, and a GMK set trying to see what I can get to work. Obviously it'll do this:
1.25,1.25,1.25,6.25,1,1,1,1,1,1
It looks like it could also do:
1.25,1.25,1.25,6.25,1.5,1.5,1,1,1
1.5,1.5,7,1,1,1,1,1,1
1.5,1.5,7,1.5,1.5,1,1,1
1.25,1.25,1.25,6.25,1.25,1.25,.5 blocker,1,1,1
I don't see any way to do 1.5,1,1.5 on the left side. If there's something else you want to try, I can lego it together and see if it works. There are probably other combinations I didn't think to try.

The most recent whitefox uses a 6u spacebar. And skully has said that he just uses 66% based off of keys, as therr is no stabdard 65% layout. As we talked about the clueboard above, I just wanted to let him know as an FYI.

This is pretty accurate. Although there is no true "standard", I would say the following are the two most popular and most compatible layouts for a 65%:
1.25,1.25,1.25,6.25,1,1 1,1,1,1 (tada68, sx-65, 22mini, M65-a)
1.25,1.25,1.25,6.25,1.25,1.25,.5 blocker,1,1,1 (canoe, noxary 268)
I personally think it's best to stick with 1.25 units for modifiers because you'll have more keysets supporting it. It's pretty easy to grab an extra 1u from the numpad in a pinch. Not many options for finding a 1.5u if you don't have one.

Kinda interested in trying carbon fiber, do you have an idea on when the GB will start? Thanks!

Alright awesome, thanks guys

I feel like this is a dumb question, but this comes with either a nerd pcb or a b87 right? Wasnt sure if that was just the compat or not.

Definitely not a dumb question, since you probably would have felt dumb when you ordered a case and realized it came with no PCB ;).

Ah gotcha, just need to find a PCB then :thumb:

Ok y'all this GB is gonna go double-time now that GH is about to be yeeted to the highest bidder any day now.

could we get an option to replace the frosted white acrylic midpiece for a clear one?

I'll look into it.

It doesn't look like there's been an update on this in a while. I just wanted to check in and see if there are still plans for this to happen.

Yep, foggyflute is just dealing with some big IRL stuff (which obviously takes precedence) but as soon as that is all cleared up, we'll be good to go. Everything else is in place :thumb:
-
So obviously this project is still in a bit of a hiatus, but I still am trying to make this happen, rest assured.
-
Going to be looking for someone else to take over the manufacturing portion of this project. After my experiences with non-knowledgeable people, I'd optimally like to find someone on here with connections to a water-jetting place or has one that they've worked with in the past. hmu y'all
-
Would love to get one for my Vortex Core so I can actually get some use out of the underglow on the Atom47 PCB.
-
So again, with foggyflute being a persona-non-grata, if anyone here has connections to a manufacturer (preferably keyboard-knowledgeable, or at least enough themselves) I would be very appreciative since this IC got over 250 responses
-
The Space65 group buy (which I think should ship soon) has a carbon fiber plate. Perhaps the person running that could point you at whoever did their carbon fiber plates (if not Airpotter, maybe Oldcat). I'm guessing Alf, but I'm not sure of that. You could also check with Originative about who did the carbon fiber for their run of Weaven cases. Sorry I don't have anything more direct to offer.

can i get a picture or something that shows this keyboard at a 65% form factor? i would love to see the design and get a price check .

I don't believe any 65% cases ever got produced.

Yeah, I've had other stuff going on so I haven't been searching super hard for anything. Reached out to a few other GB-runners here and didn't get responses so I'm really just shopping around. I do still hope to get this started eventually, though.

Ugh, i wish my lame ass ymdk96 pcb was more popular because this case would be perfect.
If you'd be willing to do a One-off please let me know!

Well, if I find someone to do, just hmu when the buy starts and I'll see about one-off prices (though I also don't know CAD or anything so the compatibility re-design would be between you and the manufacturer)

Thanks i appreciate it!!

i want one! when are yall going to be selling again?
