My guess is that the caps are modifiable e.g. you could use the jaw piece from one keycap on another keycap.

Some part of me wistfully dreams that the tongue will be made of rubber, and it flops around any time you hit the keycap.

easier to create different keycaps since you can keep the same piece and just change one piece to make a completely new one

Lots of great guesses which are so close it burns my soul.  Most of the guesses would be like keys made by Martin of HKP.  I don't want to have anything loose or moving in this key.  Not yet anyway.

Is it so you can cast discrete pieces and assemble/cast them into the full cap while retaining clean "shots" between pieces?

Hint:  The nature of the parts helps make the key, but it doesn't give the owner of the key any more capability.

First of, I was like... Why? Then I realized how extremely clean the multishots will be! Can't wait to see the finished cap(s). Do you have any plans on how you will fuse the parts together?

You can do whatever you want with the :~$ynth, but if you're asking me to make you a keycap in those colors... your request is likely going to receive a disappointing result.  I would like to be able to make to-order custom keycaps but that is too time and resource consuming to be viable and more importantly fair to everyone interested in supporting my work.

Hey Binge, how much time would you say you've put in so far on that cap? Just in the sculpting process, and not the design phase(s) leading up to it.

I've been sculpting this for about 2 hours (not including dry time) but planning this out for the better part of a year, why?

Purely curiosity as to what goes into making a cap with that level of detail. Thanks for the insight!

You're welcome.  The fastest I ever made a keycap sculpture was the Slo-Fi at 10 minutes.

Seriously? That's amazing. The Slo-Fi has a lot of detail to have been made in 10 minutes. You creative people amaze me. I'm just hoping to make some cool blanks.  :))

Detail isn't really challenging because the challenge is in the technical execution of any given project.  There are street artists that perfect making certain kinds of art for demonstration purposes and create those pieces in staggering amounts of time.  I'd attribute slo-fi to a period of inspiration and mania.  I can't reproduce half of the details I made on that sculpture if I try again using the same tools and material.

Holy ****.  Those 10 minutes of your life were more artistically productive than my entire life.  :D

Can we call that Binge's "Savant" Era?  :3

+1 He wouldn't be as chill if he was sculpted slower
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

Would you ever live stream the sculpting process? It'd be interesting to see imo

If it's anything like mine, I can guarantee that you'd be bored.
