I thought whale had curvy sides? And wasn't there a variation with a cute logo? Or am I dreaming? Why am I still asking questions?

I can't believe that you never tried such a combo!

I thought that is why you had both of them!  :))

Do you know where that cable comes from?  One of my boards has the same one.

That is a really good looking cable.

I think it's a little too thick, but just imo. :-X I like the matte finish though.  :thumb:

Speaking of cables though, that reminded me of my NCR. :3

I really dig the cable on this one. It was made from pretty cheap parts too. Got the cable off eBay for $14, got the connector for $25 from the UK through the help of a friend, and I got a gold USB connector set for I forget how much. It's actually using the USB connection of the Leeku PCB and not PS/2, but a board with these looks needed a PS/2 jack.

Just for that retro touch. I used a direct pin adapter to USB for it to work on my system (which doesn't have PS/2 anyway).

Yessir, it does! I thought it'd be a fun project. I don't think I've seen anyone else make an Alps build out of the Leeku 3000 Rev 1.4 PCB (Cherry + Alps PCB). I'll post a build log sometime this month. :)

It just so happens that there's an Alps keyset with Cherry profile caps and so when I saw that, I was like "yeah, gotta do this," and so the project had a concept. I was originally going to throw it in a case designed for an Alps board and call it a day, but I became inspired. :P

Not an easy find. A few boards out there have them, but they come up once in a blue moon.

The brown linear Alps I have in the board are also probably one of the two rarest switch types when it comes to Alps, with the other being tactile green.
They're very close to vintage Cherry MX Blacks; I really like them with these caps.

Thanks Jokrik,

It's definitely one of my favorite boards. I was so sure I wanted to use that switch for the build with red-colored LEDs (which I had to hand drill leg positions for just like with the Eagles and SKCL Green), that I just soldered them all in. I used little holtites for the LEDs in the indicator positions though. :) I think all of my other Alps customs are actually hot swap modded.  :))

Really happy with it! The concept was a bit of a joke to turn heads with something that looks like a Cherry board, but it is a joy to type on nonetheless. :D

After months of research and procrastination, figured out how to remap my 356mini using the original HTML GUI kindly provided by inornate of otd.kr, pretty funny process but it gets the job done very well:

Will probably write up and host the code sometime soon. I was planning to experiment with Aikon as I've heard the Mini was one of the first (only?) OTD boards to implement an Aikon schematic, but I'm not sure if I want to tackle the whole bootloader thing just yet. Plus I think I might miss out on the sweet pulsing Esc key  :p

Great work, man. The Mini is really the only OTD I'd want (probably way too rich for my blood though). I love the layout and it's got that sick brass weight. Very nice. <3

Good to see you getting the remapping down; I'm sure others with it would be pretty happy with that.

A87 uses Aikon as well, it's outdated and doesn't work in Windows 10 at least. (wouldn't waste too much time on it)
