Hello from South Africa - first build
« on: Mon, 11 April 2022, 11:49:49 »
Hi, I'm new to this hobby, but grew up on old mech keyboards as a kid (mainly IBM & Apple from the eighties).

For a long time I used a Magic Keyboard for work, and a Razer Blackwidow with green switches for a bit of gaming, but hated both.
Recently I tried a locally available Keychron K2 to try and replace the two keyboards with one. It was better, but I was quickly looking to modify it and improve the sound. I started watching keyboard content. I have now just built my first custom and can't stop typing! I just want to type all the time, it sounds and feels great.
For anyone interested I went with a D84 v2 with acrylic base from KBD fans, polycarb plate, no PE foam mod but I used switch pads. No tape mod either. Case & PCB foam. Biip 2048 M3U keycaps, Durock v2 stabs, lubed (but not filmed) Aqua Kings. Space bar foam too. I could recommend this to newcomers. My only minor complaint is the lack of a USB daughterboard. The lubing wasn't as tedious as I thought either.
