Title: [GB] Satisfaction 75% - GB Ended, Fulfillment Early November
Post by: upas on Sat, 27 April 2019, 17:02:14

EDIT: These are now fully sold out. Apologies if you didn't get one, but you had more than 1 week before it sold out! Options will be finalized on May 20th - I'll update the spreadsheet again tonight (15th), and again on the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ak-TL8ng2dmhJuuQSQ8STyjWctciFrhVIKanwmQ1qBE/edit?usp=sharing

The Satisfaction 75 is a 75% keyboard featuring a rotary encoder (knob), and an OLED screen. The design was inspired by Pirate Captain Henry Morgan's flagship vessel the "Satisfaction". The curve in the back of the case is supposed to be reminiscent of a pirate ship.

The keyboard has all of the following features:
OLED Screen
Real time clock
Rotary encoder with really nice knobs
VIA Configurator Support and Powered by QMK
STM32 ARM Microprocessor
South facing backlight LEDs (single color)
"Burger" o-ring top mount plate
6 degree slope
Aluminum Top and Bottom, Brass plate, Brass weight
Right side USB-C
Weights 1.7 kg / 3.75 lbs without switches, PCB, keycaps, or knob
Dimensions: 327mm x 136mm x 40mm (with default knob and cherry keycaps)

Two plates will be offered, Standard and WKL.
Standard KLE

The PCB supports ISO, but plates will not be offered in ISO. DXF files for plates will be made available once the purchasing period ends. The PCB will be a blue color.
PCB Layout Support
 (http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/#/gists/2156e0dbbaffd0f243269cdfa357e1c9)

The bottom weight has some engraved artwork.

The saber will move to the right to be close to the treasure chest in production. This will make the weight look cleaner.
Blank weights are available as extras.

Every kit comes with a top, bottom, sandblasted brass plate, and sandblasted and engraved weight. Additionally, a PCB, an OLED screen (white or blue), rotary encoder, and knob will also be provided.
Each Satisfaction75 will also come with a neoprene carrying sleeve.
The brass is raw brass, its not sealed, and as such, it can patina. You can use brasso every so often to clean off the developing patina. But this should look really good with a nice patina.

After the group buy period ends, I will release plate DXF files to the public.

Pricing for this group buy will start at a base price of $399.99. I wanted to aim for lower, but the factory I ended up going with is one of the pricier ones. In return for the added expense, they meet my quality bar.

The following colors are available:
Deep Ocean Blue (Navy Blue - Pantone 2767C)
Cloud White (E-white - Extra $20 Charge)
Stormy Gray (Dark Gray - RAL 7021)
Pirate Black (Anodized Black)

Color examples and renders:

Deep Ocean Blue w/ GMK Voyage (Render)

Deep Ocean Blue w/ GMK Calm Depths (Render)

Only 40 units of the Cloud White color will be made available.
COLOR DISCLAIMER: The prototype is not quite Pantone 2767C. The factory has not guaranteed being able to get a perfect match, but they will get as close as possible. This also applies for the RAL 7021 Dark Grey.

By default, the kit comes with the following knob:
You can choose between silver, black, and gold.

The following extras will also be available:
Extra PCB   +$45
Extra OLED   +$4
Extra Weight (Blank)   +$45
Extra Plate (Brass) Standard +$45
Extra Plate (Brass) WKL   +$45
Extra Plate (FR4 - White) Std   +$25
Extra Plate (FR4 - White) WKL   +$25
Extra Default Knob  +$7
Pearloid Knob +$13

The Pearloid Knob looks like this:
And fits best with high profile keycaps. It's also available in silver, black, and gold.

Unfortunately, due to the CITES Conservation Treaty, I will not be offering Mother of Pearl knobs. Since I can't ship them outside the US, it would add an extra layer of logistics I do not want to handle.

Finally, I'll also be offering a beautiful RAMA knob to go with the Satisfaction 75, and should pair nicely with Cherry profile keycaps. It's a Brass knob with a gold PVD finish.

There will be 200 slots for this group buy. I do not expect to hit 200 units sold, and I hope that everyone who wants one of these boards can get one, but 200 is the absolute limit of what I can handle. I'm willing to QC and fulfill so many units in an effort to prevent ridiculous flipping as soon as the GB is over. Estimated time of delivery is Late October. Shipping will be staggered, and orders will be fulfilled in the order that they are placed.

Shipping will be charged at time of purchase, based on the rates I will have to pay to ship the items.

In summary:
$399.99 Base Price - Includes top, bottom, brass plate, engraved brass weight, PCB, OLED screen, rotary encoder, knob, neoprene sleeve
200 Unit Limit, 40 Cloud White Limit
Shipping paid upfront
Estimated time of delivery is Late October

Sound Test:

Using the Knob and OLED Features:

Fn + Knob Press changes the OLED mode (3 modes - default, datetime, and off)
Fn + Knob Turn changes the Knob mode:
Here are the modes and their behaviors:
Abbreviation - Full name - Clockwise/Counterclockwise/Press
VOL - Volume - Volume Up/Down/Mute
MED - Media - Next Track/Previous Track/PlayPause
SCR - Scroll - Mouse Wheel Down/Mouse Wheel Up/Mouse Wheel Press
BRT - Brightness - Brightness Up/Brightness Down/Nothing
BKL - Backlight - Backlight Intensity Up/Down/Toggle breathing

There are also 3 custom modes that are configurable in VIA configurator.

Fn + (Key under the knob) enters Clock set mode. It changed the knob behavior to the following:
CLK - Clock Set - Increase selected number (hour or minute)/Decrease selected number (hour or minute)/Toggle hour or minute Press the same key to leave clock set mode and save the time.
The clock can also be set in VIA.

FAQ:

Q. Where are you shipping from?
A. Rhode Island, USA. I will update the above post with shipping estimates by region later tonight.

Q. Will the RAMA cap be avail on my 6th or will it be later?
A. You will be able to buy it as an extra with the group buy

Q: What does the neoprene sleeve look like?
A. A sample is on the way, I'll post pictures when it arrives.

Q: What specific pantone/RAL is each color?
A. In general, I want to remind everyone of the color disclaimer. These are not plastic keycaps. Anodizing/e-white coating aluminum is not an exact process, the factory only guarantees that they will get close to the provided reference colors. I know a lot of you are asking for precise color codes, but it's best not to expect any precise matching.

There will be a Pirate Black, Cloud White, Deep Ocean blue, and Stormy Grey. They will be close to the reference Pantone/RAL, but they may not match exactly.

This is also why I am not posting Pantone/RAL for white/black. The white will be similar to the prototype which Jae built. I do not have the RAL/Pantone code for it, but hopefully the photos will suffice.

I will be instructing the factory to prioritize matching top/bottom case over matching a pantone. Likewise, my focus during QC will be ensuring that the top/bottom cases match, not that the delivered colors match a reference color precisely.

Wait, so the base 400 USD is without PCB? I know it doesn't make sense and is probably just a mistake, but you only mention the case parts, in 2 separate places...

Push me
And then just touch me
Till I can get my satisfaction.. 75

Hope I'm quick enough for the white. Think Ice Caps would go well with a tall golden knob.

The pearlescent knob is a little taller than an R0 SA Keycap.

Those knob options look stunning, as do the boards. I can't decide on color, so I'm going to be running for the white and the blue. Setting a reminder for myself for Monday @ 6.

Are the default knobs shorter than the pearl ones?
That would be fine since SA Ice Caps are uniform R3 anyway.

Awesome design, definite buy from me.

Do you personally have a preference on OLED color? Would you think white or blue looks overall better, or does it depend on case color?

All of those things would require extra PC-side software, which I wanted to avoid for everyday use. (VIA is just used to configure the board).

If you know how to code, you could potentially add this to the board via QMK firmware. But I do not plan on writing anything to enable this.

Personally, I like both the white and the blue. But the white will match with more keysets. The video has an example of the blue, and you can see, it's pretty bright.
For example, it'd look great with a blue or white keyset, but might clash with a green one.

Ah, figured as much. Definitely agree with the desire to not require bloatware to use the keyboard, but an optional programming interface would be really neat :)

I haven't done much with QMK internals before, I'll have to play around. Maybe I'll be able to get a version going with a programmable ui, then build a little higher level python/node.js/whatever library for people to throw together custom scripts/plugins...

I am so in for 1 of this! Quick question, is it still possible to elevate the OLED screen so that it's more even to the top case? Atm the screen regressed a bit too much into the casing which might make it hard to read the information on the screen imo.

It's not possible to raise the screen. There are pins on top of the OLED breakout that will short if they are touching aluminum. The gap needs to stay for this reason - I wanted to use an OLED breakout so its easy to replace if needed.

When you sit up ergonomically in your chair, you can see the screen.

Even if you slouch a little, you can still see it.

If you slouch a lot, you won't be able to see the screen well, unfortunately.

Surprised that the material around the LCD isn't going to be milled to raise it even a few mm, but the more disappointing thing is the lack of ISO.

I think that's me out, thanks though.

I think the PCB supports ISO but not the switch plate. Upas did mention that he will release the plate file.

FR4 is a fiberglass material typically used for PCBs. It has a good flex to it - it's one of my favorite plate materials.
For the brass plate, it's just sandblasted brass colored. No other options.

The PCB does support ISO and I am releasing the plate files once the GB closes. This information was posted in the first post of the GB thread.

@upas, can you show rendered pictures of the diff between white and blue OLED? Can. You consider bundling price for those who will be getting all 3 knobs (pearl / regular)?

I'll take photos of the blue and white OLEDs tonight. Not renders :)

No bundling prices - I'm not making a lot of profit on the knobs already, so I don't think I could offer a discount and also adequately handle risk.

The wavez render has a dark grey case. The knob is a planned custom knob that did not work out.
Perhaps in the future i can offer these knobs.

I'm glad you're taking this approach. Would prefer to have my keyboard look coherent than match a proto/render exactly.

Here are some knob height comparisons:

Default knob:

Pearloid knob:

RAMA knob (3d print basic mockup of geometry):

The RAMA knob sit approx. 1 to 2mm lower than the Default knob. The pearloid knob sits the highest.
We are still refining the specific geometries for the RAMA knob. We may have it sit even lower.

The PCB is solderable, not hotswap. Even if you have never soldered before, you shouldn't be afraid to solder a keyboard :)

Shameless plug, I sell a kit on my website cannonkeys.com called the Practice60. It's fairly inexpensive and when you're done putting it together, you have a 60% keyboard. It's a great way to practice soldering before doing it on a more expensive custom!

The barrel on the pearloid knob is not as deep as the standard. The difference in height is due to the mounting, but that still plays into where it ultimately sits.

As a matter of fact, the pearloid knob is 17mm tall, and the standard is 19mm tall, but because of the short barrel, the 17mm knob sits higher.

Just about every custom or mass-produced board I've worked with has had a slightly different way of installing either holtites or millmax sockets, due to size of the pcb holes. I think this will be no different. There isn't much choice aside from either 0705 or 0305 millmax sockets, or 8134 holtites, since those are the only ones that fit all switch pins.

2 questions @upas. 1) What is a FR4 plate? 2) For the default included brass plate, will there be a different color option?

FR4 is a fiberglass material typically used for PCBs. It has a good flex to it - it's one of my favorite plate materials.
For the brass plate, it's just sandblasted brass colored. No other options.

Surprised that the material around the LCD isn't going to be milled to raise it even a few mm, but the more disappointing thing is the lack of ISO.

I think that's me out, thanks though.

I think the PCB supports ISO but not the switch plate. Upas did mention that he will release the plate file.

The PCB does support ISO and I am releasing the plate files once the GB closes. This information was posted in the first post of the GB thread.

Yeah I have nowhere to get the plate cut though :'( sadface

Hello everyone,

The product page is now live on CannonKeys, stock will be released at exactly 6PM EDT on Monday.
https://cannonkeys.com/collections/satisfaction-75

After purchasing, you will receive an email with a link to a google form to select your options.

Extras for the S75 will be listed at 5PM EDT so that you can add them to your cart.

If you place separate orders for extras and the Satisfaction75, I will hold on to your extra shipping costs and refund the difference AFTER the group buy has shipped (many months from now).
To avoid this situation, If you want to buy right at 6PM, and you plan on purchasing extras, I suggest adding the extras you want to your cart ahead of time, and purchasing the Satisfaction75 itself when it goes live.

There is plenty of stock of extras, so having them in your cart should not slow down the purchasing process.

Darker colors are generally safer and match with more keysets. Gold in particular is hard to find stuff to match, and if thats your worry I'd definitely go Blue or Black.

@yohannes  In case you want them all, you can find the knobs on the china market, almost everywhere. These are going for like $5-9 for 3 knobs and comes with different pearl color so you just need to buy the right measure. In case you need just one, buying it in the GB makes sense, otherwise if you want them all, you might save $30 and just pay 2-3 bucks for each knob.

Where can we find knobs that look like the smooth ones in the renders? Or any alternate knobs too, would be cool. Is there a diameter or mounting type to search for?

I posted the exact part number above.

Guess I'm not good at searching.. Not sure I'm smart enough to search for knobs based on specs from the encoder. Got any hot leads? I understand if you'd rather we figure that out after the GB!

Hey guys,

Some updates - the Group buy will end on Monday May 20th. If stock runs out before then, you won’t be able to buy, but you can still edit your option selection until the 20th.

Everyone who purchases will receive an email to a form to select options - you can edit that as many times as you like, but on May 20th, they will be locked in.

Similarly, you have until the 20th to purchase extras.

The OLED screens works with 0305 Mill max hotswap sockets, so if you want to easily swap them, I highly recommend the sockets!

Double post so those watching the thread can get this info:

Due to the demand, I will be offering CF plates as an add on as well, during the GB.
They will be $40.

And yet another post -

For the real time clock built in to the keyboard, you will have to source a CR1025 battery.
It痴 not a hard requirement, but the battery will allow the clock to persist through power down.

I can稚 send CR1025 batteries because they are lithium ion batteries, but they are <$1 each and should last up to 10 years.

If the images on cannonkeys is the real PCB, we should be able to remove the battery even with switches soldered. It's on the underside of the PCB though

A few simple questions:
  • Is this a fully assembled keyboard? What are the default switch?
  • If not fully assembled - Which switch types are compatible?

Sorry if these were previously answered.

Thanks
1) Not assembled. It's a do it yourself kit. You'd need to solder in the switches.

2) Any MX style switches are compatible (cherry, gateron, zeal, etc.)

This is correct - you can remove it without desoldering (soldering a battery sounds... dangerous), and its on the underside of the PCB.

Yeah! Soldering a battery would be bad news.
My question was really what side of the PCB is the battery housing, and that was answered above.  It is on the other side if the pcb from the switches.

Yep - it should be an actual line item with a $20 charge.
If there is no additional $20 charge, it means you tried to get it but it sold out.

Hey everyone,

I'll be doing an audit of form submissions tonight to make sure that people who selected cloud white actually were able to add it to cart.
If you missed the cutoff, I will be emailing you for next steps / potential to cancel since you didn't get cloud white.

Also, if you missed the email for the form, please check your spam folder or promotions folder. Filling out the form is very important! And if you need to revise your selection, you can just resubmit.

I will be releasing a spreadsheet of order numbers to option selections so that everyone can double check what I have for them is correct. It will be released tonight, then updated again on Monday. As the group buy comes closer to a close, I will update more frequently.

EDIT: I will do this by tomorrow evening - tonight got taken up by some other stuff.

Why is cloud white option only limited to 40?

I posted this earlier on reddit:

The e-white finish is difficult. There are lower yields, and it costs more. Limiting the units decreases the chance that catastrophic things happen that could put the whole group buy at risk.

Trust me, if I could offer unlimited e-white spots, I would. Some group buy runners who live in China are able to do this, as they can actually go visit the factory in-person multiple times and have a tight communication loop. I’m in the US, so in order to ensure a smooth group buy, I had to limit the e white spots.

7305 and 0305 should work for switches. DMC is sending me some 7305 so I can test them on the OLED.

I don't think there are many units left in this round either, so definitely don't wait unless you really wanted white and are going to try to snap one up in the aftermarket.

Do you guys think adding hotswap sockets to this keyboard is something I first time solderer should undertake or should I just solder switches on and be done with it? I'm new to keyboard/soldering. You know what I mean  ;)

I just recently made my first hotswap board with Mill Max sockets and it's not that difficult. You just need to make sure the switches are in correctly and that you don't use too much solder.

Dark gray IMO. It'll also pair better with other sets if for some reason you were to put something else on the Satisfaction besides Metropolis.

Yeah I definitely considered the versatility of the dark gray. Now to decide on LED display... blue looks nice but again, less flexible with other sets.

I'm going with dark blue for Metropolis as well. I think they're going to look amazing together, along with that brass knob. Every keyboard has a gray option, but I find this shade of blue less common. Of course, if this is end game, maybe gray is the better choice for its versatility.

I'm going with blue, also. Planning to pair with Calm Depths, but also have Metropolis coming, so that could be an option. I like sets with blue in them, so not too worried about versatility. You can't go wrong with the gray, though. Seems like you could pair it with just about anything. I went with a blue LED, but also grabbed a white spare, just in case.

Also, if you missed the email for the form, please check your spam folder or promotions folder. Filling out the form is very important! And if you need to revise your selection, you can just resubmit.

Was this email sent out already?  I checked my spam and promotions folders and I never got it.

The email was sent about a minute after I ordered.

Also, Upas, do you know if 7305 millmax sockets will fit the PCB?

7305 and 0305 should work for switches. DMC is sending me some 7305 so I can test them on the OLED.
0305 confirmed works for the OLED.

I had a house fire and have been dealing with that recently. Everything and everyone is ok.
But as a result my form audit has been delayed. Hopefully soon!

Glad everyone is okay and the fire wasn't too bad over there.

Thanks for the info on the sockets. Also, I have one other question about the knobs and rotary encoder. Knobs meant for solid shaft pots would still fit the flat/d shaft pot of the S75 as long as they can be screwed in, right? I've found some guitar knobs that are good dimensions wise, but it says they are for solid and split shafts and I can't really find any info on their compatibility with the flat/d shaft pots.

Group Buys on /r/mechmarket.
Or search for 0305 or 0705 millmax sockets on digikey or mouser.

I think that's basically it. You might want to test the pcb first before soldering anything. Download Switch Hitter, and short each key.

Best bet is to search for them. What I've been searching for are guitar knobs with a max outer diameter of 19mm and a shaft diameter of 6mm with some sort of screw mechanism to make sure it attaches to the alps encoder shaft

I think https://xentricguitars.com/ might be a good place for knobs. They have a ton of colors and some "novelties" that could be used to match specific builds and keycaps. There's even an eyeball knob that they have for sale... It looks like they also have an ebay store with good reviews too so that's good. Only downside I can see is that they only sell knobs in sets of 3 and I don't think you can mix-n-match them.

You can see the results here:

There are a few orders that ordered cloud white that didn't buy the addon - I'll be reaching out to you shortly.
Similarly, there are some orders without any form submissions. You'll also be receiving an email from me soon!

AFAIK, A knob like that would have to be custom made. If anyone finds one in-stock somewhere, please let us know in this thread :)

Finally sat down and put together my order for extras. This'll be very exciting!

For the extra PCBs, since you have to solder the rotary encoder and the OLED screen to it, I was just wondering if that'll essentially just be like soldering switches? I have only soldered switches before and just wanted to check before I could potentially screw it up.

xentricguitars on ebay. They have plenty of other options and colors for their normal knobs. They also have some other unique ones like the eyeball, but I don't think a lot of the unique ones are going to fit the dimensions of the S75. Good thing is that all the normal colored options should fit.

I can't decide on what looks better between standard and WKL layout and the deadline for changes is approaching. Someone help hahaha. Which is generally more flexible with keysets in terms of what is included in base sets? Judging by the google docs spreadsheet standard was by far the more common choice.

i can go either way, while i like the look of WKL, there are still some keysets that don't include the right 1.5u mods and 7u spacebars (really the SP sets), most of the GMK sets seem to include them now.  but if you're not worried about keyset compat, like the look of WKL and dont need the keys then go for it.

i use MAC and prefer 3 keys to the left of space.

Oof! Will it be reopened automatically on your website or will it be communicated here in gh? Still hoping to get one as I have missed this due to my busy work schedule :(

There are 3 people who didn't fill out the form. Their orders will be refunded, and the units will be released again, today at 5PM EST. Those who purchase must fill the form and buy extras by 6PM EST. If the spots are not sold by 6PM, the group buy will close and they'll just remain unsold.

After 6 PM tonight, I will release the DXF files.

The spreadsheet has been updated with final option selections. New submissions will no longer be taken into account.

Extras are still available, but will be closed at 6 PM today along with the overall GB.

Some astute observers have noticed only 39 people selected Cloud White in the options form.

This is true - one person who purchased cloud white actually changed their selection.

I've contacted that person to make sure they wanted to do that.

If that is the case, I will be raffling off the last Cloud White spot to someone already in the GB.

Hey guys, just some quick updates:

The keyboard cases, RAMA Knobs, FR4 plates, and PCBs are all undergoing manufacturing.
OLED screens and CF plates have already finished manufacturing and are on their way.
Keep your eyes open for the SatisKracken artisan knob release, coming soon!
There are still more custom knobs being developed.

Not sure if its been mentioned yet but I worry about the durability of the knob over time. In the video showcasing it seems like it slightly wobbles.

Aside from that, this is one of the sickest boards i've seen on here. If I missed something about the durability of the knob, I would totally be down to pick up a cloud white one from someone.

Personally, i just don't trust it.  I want a cloud white kit, but I can't trust this person to change address when they don't exactly seem to be honest about why they're selling their spot in the first place.

Yeah. At the very least, include the GB runner in the transaction. All 3 should communicate. Of course, this all depends with the GB runner, if he will permit this or not.

Hey guys,

So, in the past I have allowed a transfer of a single spot. Both the seller and buyer kept me in the loop, and to the best of my knowledge, the spot was sold at the GB price.

It's come to my attention that there may be unscrupulous folks trying to sell their spots without looping me in, and also trying to make a significant profit. ($300 profit at first). This individual also claimed that they bought their spot resale, which is patently false.

For what it's worth, I don't care if people flip for profit after they receive their boards. But given that Cloud White was a limited addon, and the GB has not shipped yet, I do not agree with this sort of flipping.

It's extremely hard for me to keep track of all of these things, and it causes a significant amount of extra work and makes me assume extra risk, so from here on out, I will no longer allow transfers of GB spots. I understand that things can happen in life, and if circumstances come up where you might need the money, please send me an email with proof to support <at> cannonkeys.com and we can work something out.

The individual who was trying to flip the spot has been refunded in full, and his unit will be sold as an extra after all of the group buy participants have received their boards.

Are u serious? I told the guy that 800$ because I need the money to buy a no2. Just trying to get as much help as I could. Anyone trying to buy a no2 knows how expensive they are. There was another buyer who pm'ed before him so I told him if I cannot work out a plan with this buyer within a week then it will for him at cost. It wasn't even a week yet, and he already pmed me. However, when it was over a week and I pmd him asking if he still wants it. He didn't respond for 2 days. "I was at my best friend's wedding all weekend and my daughter was in the hospital today" lol dude u were online in those 2 days. Discord doesn't lie lol. I asked for 500 + 50 PP(who knows how PayPal fee work lol). It's only a few dollars difference. He then asked me to do F&F to save money. It is understandable, but I don't even know who is this guy why would I do F&F. I even let him know beforehand that I only do G&S. After that, I tried to tell him to look for someone's else. He insisted on buying and said, "whatev just do that". Okay, so I spent my lunch break to sent him an invoice. Somehow, he changed his mind and told me "Sorry to bother but can you edit for $499.21 then select buyer pays fees? It should automatically add them to my total when I pay it". Like there is an option for that? At this point, he just gonna waste more of my time, and I told him to look for someone's else to buy.

"For what it's worth, I don't care if people flip for profit after they receive their boards. But given that Cloud White was a limited addon, and the GB has not shipped yet, I do not agree with this sort of flipping." Okay, but I don't get your logic. It is my board/property why I cannot sell it at whatever I feel like it is worth for? 550$ wasn't reasonable? It is a few dollars difference than at cost but considering the time, inflation, etc. In my opinion, it was very reasonable. Not sure why there is such acting in a free market economy. This should only be happening in China and North Korea lol. Anyways, I don't care if you cancelled my order, however, there should be some compensation for holding my money for 2 months even the greedy bank give some back for their customers. I am not asking for one. But most keyboard designers have to go through gb and not have product available in-store is because lack of funds to support their projects. If this is how you treat the people who entrusted the money to you to do your project then it is quite disappointing.

Yikes.

It seems like a common thing that people are flipping SPOTS in a GB for profit instead of the actual end-product, nowadays.

I'm all for being able to sell group buy spots because sometimes you just need the money for something else or maybe you just changed your mind about the product. However, trying to sell a spot for a premium is just not right and it's bad for the community as a whole. The aftermarket is already bad enough as is and we don't need people charging double for a product that hasn't even come out yet. GB spots should sell for their OG price paid plus maybe 3% to cover paypal fees. Anything more than that just seems like scalping.

Sorry you lost your spot bro, but this all sounds like a you problem

Can you explain why is it on my end? I am pretty sure Amazon or Bestbuy or any other online shops wouldn't have done the same thing.

I don't understand why you aren't happy-- you got your money back in full, so now you can put it towards the No.2 as you originally intended. You were never entitled to an extra $300 at any point in the GB.

Ok, I'll play.

You are seriously comparing this transaction to something you buy at a B&M like BestBuy, or online retailer like Amazon?

In Amazon's condition of use, it has a clause that states "reserves the right to refuse service, terminate accounts, terminate your rights to use Amazon Services, remove or edit content, or cancel orders in its sole discretion."

I would argue in this case, upas has the right to refund your money and revoke your participation in the GB because you didn't abide to the rule.

Sure, the rule wasn't explicitly stated, but since this is a very close knit community, it has been frown upon to flip GB spot when the creator/designer set a price they think is reasonable.

That is why some like Keycult allocate a certain unit to do a vickrey auction.

Like upas said, things happen in life, keyboard is not the end of life.  I think if you were to sell your GB spot at the price you paid, folks would be more understandable.

I'm not aware of Amazon or Bestbuy letting you transfer pre-orders...

Also, I think it's pretty well known that if you are going to sell a GB spot and you need the GB runner's help, selling it for more than face value is going to get you a slap down.

ITT:  comparing a group buy to Amazon

We're given the opportunity to own limited runs of cool products.  Not only that, but you get to interact with the vendors, designers, manufactures etc.
Group Buys are a treat; don't muck it up for everyone else.

...and, as was previously stated, money was refunded, so win win.  Right?

Okay, but I don't get your logic. It is my board/property why I cannot sell it at whatever I feel like it is worth for?

The point is simple. You don't actually have 'property' at this point. You have a spot in the group buy while that property is manufacturered. Until such time that you have that property in your hands, the GB runner has the right to refund your money for any reason they so choose. In this case, because they don't want the additional hassle of working out the transfer to another person and they don't like your desire to flip the SPOT for more money. If you wanted to make money on the board and sell it for profit after you own it, that's up to you. But at that point you owned nothing.

Also, nobody cares what you want the money for. Glad you want a No.2. Awesome. Go buy one. That has no impact on your right to sell the GB spot. Just because you were fast enough, lucky enough, whatever... to get a spot in the S75 GB does not mean you just won $300 in profit.

The biggest L is the guy on /r/mm who was trying to corner the market on aftermarket GMK Serika. He was buying them up from everyone for $450+. People thought he was a scam artist but he paid for all of them.

And then the hype died.

Edit: Or maybe the two guys that were trying to sell their GB spots for SA Olivia and Novelkeys pulled their orders. That's got to hurt. SA Olivia is going to break the record for non-vintage keycaps.

Here's him flipping the GB spot a few weeks later: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=99655.msg2769735#msg2769735

I don't care... To me, it is not "rip off" someone as long as I don't force. What I did might not be right ethically, but legally... I am not convinced that I am wrong.
Who said anything about being wrong legally? Upas is not wrong legally either. So pipe down.

Well in this world it's not about good or bad/right or wrong but legal or not legal. Upas did not make any rules in this gb thread on what buyer can or cannot do with their order. Then later without a legitimate reason, he canceled order based on nothing. If he did not like what I did then maybe he should have set out a rule during the gb stating xyz...

So very sorry.

Okay, but I don't get your logic. It is my board/property why I cannot sell it at whatever I feel like it is worth for? 550$ wasn't reasonable? It is a few dollars difference than at cost but considering the time, inflation, etc. In my opinion, it was very reasonable.

On the real, why do you think this is your property? You have paid money to *order* something, you have not received the product.

You wanna talk real world?

Ferrari cancels orders of flippers, and also forbids limited car resale. And they won in court. Porsche also punished 911 R flippers.

Stores can fully reserve the rights to cancel your _order_, because in the end, you have not taken delivery of the product.

Ignoring the obvious concerns here (morality trumps legality every day, and frankly your statement makes you seem a bit psychopathic), you have not only broken the ToS that upas outlined in their GB description and website (detailed by other users above), but you have also broken the GH ToS by creating multiple accounts to run this GB flipping scheme you've developed

Someone with a shred of morality would have been met with a heavy dose of mercy.  Not so much the case here...

Thank you for creating such a spectacle and helping bring awareness to this.

Hey guys,

We are on track to ship by the estimated October timeframe.
You might have seen RAMA knobs teased by RAMA - they are in the process of packing and shipping them to me now. After those arrive, all we are waiting on are the cases.

I also have news about two things.
1. CYO Keycaps SatisKlacken Artisan knob raffle
2. New artisan knobs

For #1 there are a handful of SatisKlacken knobs available that TTyler Durden of CYO Keycaps. They are available in a number of different colors as shown here:
https://www.instagram.com/p/ByBvRfOHmPR/?igshid=1gds1zd8gupjb
https://www.instagram.com/p/BypfToGnSqL/?igshid=1qjlce4ust0fg

Each color is unique, only one has been made. I will be opening a raffle on SATURDAY AUGUST 24th at a random time in the morning, EDT. The form will be open for 12 hours. The artisan knobs are $40 each plus shipping, and if you win, you will receive a random color. I want to encourage trading for the colors you want, etc. invoices will go out shortly after the raffle closes. The raffle is also limited to those who purchased S75 keyboards. Unpaid invoiced will be re-raffled.

I will follow up shortly with another post about yet another type of artisan knob :)

All SatisKlacken knobs have gone out. RAMA Knobs have arrived. For those of you who just bought knobs, and not S75 keyboards, those orders should be going out over the next week or so.

The last outstanding part of the keyboard is the cases. Everything else has arrived.

Word to the wise, especially for someone new to the hobby, don't get too caught up on any single board until you know what you really like.

You're going to go broke really quickly if you buy too many boards from the secondary market.

Jokes aside, thanks for the advice. I got a WASD V2, CTRL, GMMK and a couple Realforce to see what I like. I have MX Greens, MX Blues(don't hurt me), Zealious 78s, Halo Trues, Hako Trues, Royal Hako Trues and topre's obviously. All my boards are TKL and I want brass or aluminum %75 but want the directionals to be separated. This board has all that + that amazing dial... it's just looks so beautiful and unique and afaict there's nothing like it anywhere.

I think asking for refunds during GB stage is okay, but I think whether refunds are allowed depends on the GB runner.  I would suggest rather than (or in addition to) asking for a refund, find someone who wants to buy your spot, and ask the GB runner if you can transfer your spot over to that buyer.  :)

Yes, I offered to take your spot/board. Let me know if that's what you want IF the GB runner allows it.

IIRC, Upas said wait until the board is the hands of the customers then buy it from there. He closed the 'gb spot transfers' after that drama with the guy trying to sell his for $800ish lol.

There is no noob question :)

First, screw ins are also PCB mounted. There are two kinds of stabilisers, PCB mounted and plate mounted. Get PCB mounted for the satisfaction. Now, in PCB mounted, there's again 2 kinds - Clip ins and screw ins. Clip ins have a clip that goes into the PCB and holds the stabiliser in place. Screw ins have screws in place of clips to hold the stabiliser in place. I personally prefer screw ins as they're more stable and less prone to popping out. Again IMO. There are people who like clip ins as well. Buy either of them but make sure you get cherry/GMK authentic ones. I'll suggest you get them from novelkeys.

Screw ins are definitely my preference as well.  Always great to eliminate the annoyance of stabs popping out when you remove caps.  :thumb:

One thing I rarely see mentioned regarding them (probably a sign that this has been remedied / doesn't happen anymore).  When they first started to become popular, I built a board with them and the screw caused one of the rows/columns to short out from the screw, either because of tight placement or the use of multiple layers that were now making contact.  Just something to keep in mind, in case anyone does experience weird behavior - it might be the screw in stabs.

A combination of the PCB and plate design.  In order for either type to be used, the PCB needs to have stab holes (for PCB mount) or the plate needs the appropriate notches (for plate mount).  I haven't followed the custom scene quite as close lately as I used to, so I might not be the best resource there, but I would think it'd be specified (has been the case in the past).

There are holes on the PCB for stabs. If they're missing, then that keyboard uses plate mounted stabs.

Like in this image, the two holes on the right of zeal65 text are stabiliser holes.

Also, most of the custom keyboards nowadays use PCB mounted stabs. So don't worry. If they use plate mounted stabs, the runner will explicitly mention it as that is rare.

Hey guys just wanted to provide a quick update.

After the snafu with my Brutal60 round 3 plates, I double checked the FR4 plates. The first few plates met tolerances, but they quickly deteriorated after that, and the stab cutouts are too small.

This means they'll have to be remade. It shouldn't delay the expected late October ship date, though.

The carbon fiber plates are great, I double checked those as well.

In other news, some production color full boards came in for final signoff. The rest of the boards will be ready imminently. I'll try to get some nice pictures that capture the real production colors this weekend!

Note - I didn't get a production sample of black because black is black and there's not much question about what it'll look like. But for deep ocean blue, cloudy white, and stormy grey, those pictures will go up this weekend.

will extra plates be available? i only ordered a brass plate one. Kinda want to check out something but a little more give. PC plate would be nice but I don't think these were offered in the gb. How does the fr4 compare to it in terms of flex and give?

Maybe, it'll depend on how shipping goes. FR4 is stiffer than PC but flexes more than Alu.

In other news, as promised, here are photos of the production color samples. I've approved all of them and the keyboards will start shipping by late October.
Also you might notice the sabre is still in the middle of the weight - after trying it the other way, this looks better so we went with it.

Hey guys,

Quick update - there was a slight PCB issue, so those need to get remanufactured. Given the issue, the new shipping estimate is early-mid November.

The cases have finished production and are on their way to me.

I figured it out. It seems something went wrong with my driver install the first time around. I tried to reinstall with zadig and that would just hang and crash too. So, I uninstalled the driver via device manager, then installed with zadig again. After all that, QMK worked just fine.

Hey, I ordered a second plate, PCB, OLED, and encoder hoping to basically do two builds and be able to swap between them relatively easily.  And I got all of that...but I only got one set of the little nylon spacers that keep the OLED in place.  It's a tiny thing but still enough to keep me from being able to do a second build.  Where can I even get something like that?

I didn't even think of this, but I have the same problem.

Usually you can buy parts like this from electronics suppliers like Digikey, Mouser, etc. or a parts supplier like McMaster-Carr. But getting a part number from Upas would be helpful.

Also any suggestions for debugging issues with the OLED?  I finished my first build and everything seems fine except the OLED isn't displaying anything.  All the keys plus the encoder work though.  I double checked the solder joints to the OLED and they look really good...I could try swapping it with the spare I got I guess but that doesn't tell me why this one isn't working.

I feel dumb.  I did read the guide but somehow missed that note...

But speaking of flashing is there a way to do it in just plain QMK?  I run Linux and the tools the guide recommends don't work for me.

It's called a pin header. Specifically a straight 2mm pin header.
Your location shows Philippines and a quick google game me this site.

You can also get them from Aliexpress, or even the whole OLED unit for like 2 bucks.

I've done a word search through this thread but still haven't been able to figure it out- what does the rotary encoder / knob actually do?

Hey, great keyboard I was wondering whether you would make the DXF files public as the period ended and you sold out everything :) I am really interested in maybe making one myself but also I'm a complete noob beginner. But I still love this keyboard! Only a few questions arise for me: 1. How do I print such a custom PCB 2. Those keyboard-layout-editor links differ (one has OLED slot, the other does not. Which one should I make if I want to get OLED display too because I noticed that the layout without OLED cutout seems to have the knob cutout in the right place while the other one does not?) and last but not least 3. Where do I get the OLED screen. I think getting in touch would be great, I am excited to learn and explore the horizons. Anyways kind regards hoping to get a response.

Would the rotary be able to switch between different windows 10 audio outputs - like going from headphones to desktop speakers?

Also, this board is beautiful. The 75% layout with a rotary is end-game for me. I am a day 1 buyer for R2 - please make it happen!

I have a question about the brass. For people who have had it this long, has there been a lot of signs of patina? Just curious as I have other sandblasted brass items that are also unfinished and am interested in keeping the sandblasted look without cleaning it! Thank you!

Since there seems to be a fair number of people in here already clamoring for a R2 I would also like to echo that sentiment.

No need to clamor since R2 has been confirmed for like 7 months now. It's coming at the end of the year.

Hey guys I have a problem with my OLED display. I don't think Sleep Mode is enabled because even when my Sat75 goes idle, the display remains on. Does anyone know how to fix this? I reckon I may have to fiddle with the OLED display code but I don't really know where to start haha

When will R2 occur? Will there be a hotswap option? Is it a groupbuy, raffle, or till supplies last?

Really? It fit mine just fine.....
The specs are nearly identical to the one provided by the cannonkey, except the full diameter size, which is 6mm vs 4mm. Mid diameters are both 2mm.

There probably will be, it'll just be a pretty long wait for you I'm afraid. If you really really want, I'm sure you could find someone reliable to sell you their GB spot. Although I would stress on the someone reliable bit. A friend who changed their mind, maybe!

After the first round of this, i don't think upas will allow a spot sale, so probs have to wait till they're delivered and buy one off of someone then, or buy one that is already in the aftermarket.
