Find me a new show...
« on: Thu, 03 September 2015, 13:35:56 »
I'm about to go on a very long trip involving at least 40-50 hours of flights.  I need a show to binge watch on the flights.  I know you guys can hook me up with something good.  I need something with at least 1-2 seasons.

My favorites over the last 10-15 years (no order, just what's in my head):
Jericho
The Unit
24
Alias
Mr. Robot
Firefly
Walking Dead
Numb3rs
The Last Ship
Revolution
Lost
12 Monkeys

What else is out there that you guys would recommend?  How is Homeland?  Or Covert Affairs?  Never watched either of those but someone recommended them (but she's a girl who works in my office so... :-X)
I'm back.

Ray Donovan. It is fantastic. You should watch it right now. You WILL NOT be sorry.

Homeland is good, but the "Dana Season" which I think is 3, was terrible. This latest season was great, until the final episode, which was atrocious, it wasn't even part of the overall plot. It was like a filler episode stuffed into the end. Season 1 is really, really good though.

I'd watch jericho and the unit all over again. :D

You might like Defiance from SyFy or for a more lighthearted show I liked Eureka.

If you have the means to download a copy of Narcos, the Netflix series that was released last weekend.

It's one of the best shows I've ever watched. In my top ten best ever.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Are there any really good old shows that I've missed?  I would totally recommend people to watch Lost if they've never seen it.  Are there any like that?
I'm back.

You like Firefly...have you ever seen Dollhouse? It is another Joss Whedon show (as is Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Angel, with  BtVS being the best show of all time if you only count seasons 1-5). I remember really liking the ending to that show. I'm not sure they actually aired the final episode, it might have been a download only thing. But it was pretty good.

I just started watching Halt and Catch Fire this week, and I'm hooked. So that's one. As for old shows, look up "Bored to Death". It's kind of a slow burn from HBO which got almost no publicity, but is really fun.

"Old-school" as in early 1970s? Kung Fu

The Battlestar Galactica reboot was superb for the first half and still good for the second.

6 Feet Under

"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

My recommendations would be:

Oz
The Sopranos
The West Wing
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

2nd vote for Rick and Morty.  I was also quite surprised by The Blacklist.  I figured that it was just over hyped, but I binged watched the first 2 seasons and really enjoyed the show.  Parts of it are quite predictable/cheesey, but on the whole its pretty solid.

I'm a couple episodes into my yearly Firefly fix...I never get sick of that show.

Halt and Catch fire

yes! another Halt and Catch Fire fan! This is easily one of my favorite shows ever. The second season was surprisingly amazing.

So here's my list:

The Sopranos
Halt and Catch Fire
House of Cards
Sherlock
LUTHER (sorry for the caps lock, this show is awesome)

...and moving into more zany territory...

Futurama
Come Fly With Me
Bojack Horseman (another season 2 attention-grabber)
Check it Out! With Dr. Steve Brule (spin off of Tim and Eric Awesome Show)

I've talked to a few people about this, man.. it's so strange to me that it flew so far under the radar..

At some point I'm going to gather every single scrap of data for what was going on that year: stocks, climate, natural disasters, pop music releases, ALL of it, and finally get to the bottom of why no one's seen this amazing show

OOOhhooHH!

YOu could try -

Deadwood (western! but kinda made me think of a more serious HBO version of Firefly)
Silicon Valley - TOOOO funny.
Leftovers - weird, but I feel like it's going in a Lost-ish direction
Fargo! - a great recent show
Boardwalk Empire - Like 5 seasons. Steve Buscemi. Fantastic wardrobe. Just a great show. Really. Check this one out! <<<
True Detective - Season 1! **** season 2 \
Fresh Off the Boat - Kinda family - funish but reeeeally funny
The League - All around funny without being a straight up comedy sketch show
Arrested Development - Awkward Funny but worth the cringe!
Curb Your Enthusiasm - Same ^. Awkward hilarity.
Transparent - Faaantastic show. Jeffrey Tambor is the ****.
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee - Pretty much what is says. Jerry Seinfeld in badass cars hanging out with cool people.
Also Jay Leno's Garage is good if you like cars. **
Archer - Dear god. Just watch. It's animated but it's the best.
Bob's Burgers - See above ^

as far as older shows, I liked OZ a lot. As well as Firefly! but you already have that one :/

Ummm... I feel like I have more that  relates to your list. I may edit this.

OMG, yes! Silicone Valley is so good! I also agree with The Leftovers (it is pretty heavy, but it is good) and does have that Lost vibe to it. Also agree with True Detective season 1. Season two was unmitigated garbage. Luckily each season is stand alone so you won't miss anything by just watching one season.

Fresh Off the Boat - Kinda family - funish but reeeeally funny

+1 for this as well, it was family orientated but it's still really funny. If you've ever seen Eddie Huang's videos then it kind of makes it better.
Screw it, here's a link. I really like these videos and his humor.

I'm only like 5 episodes in but Vikings is decent so far.

I told myself to never watch the last episode so that I could rewatch year after year. Then I watched the last episode and never want to see any of the show again.

Interesting idea. I am always desperate to see how something ends, but leaving it hanging would be nice, even if it was partially spoiled, by whatever means.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

lol.  Just watch the first three seasons and pretend all the writers left so they cancelled the show, like I do.

Smart.

That is what I did with Rescue Me because I had inside info.

I'm told I made the right choice.
