Full Russian Keyboard
« on: Sat, 22 September 2018, 13:38:43 »
I'm playing around with the Keyboard Editor and trying different things out with a left handed layout and more prominent Cyrillic letters. I'm just starting to learn Russian and was thinking of a full keyboard in Russian text but don't really trust Google Translate and don't know Russian well enough to figure out the rest of the keys like Del, PgDn, PrtSc etc. I'm aware none of the Cyrillic boards I've seen out there have full Russian text on the whole board but figured if I'm going the custom route, why now go all the way.

Any advice on correct spellings or abbreviations ? I could phonetically do them in English with Cyrillic letters but know that would not be correct. Just wanted to do it right if doing this at all.

This is as far as I feel comfortable going before understanding the language better.
No, I'm not a designer and have no clue what I'm doing but do feel the left handed controls should be mirrored.

Wouldn't mind doing the F keys like Ф1, Ф2, Ф3 etc but am not sure on that yet.

Why do you need a full translation? Here is my version of the Cyrillic alphabet on the layout. Russian is my native language. Modifying keycaps do not translate into Russian.

for Vortex Vibe without F1... F12.

I was thinking of going the full immersion route when learning the language. Just a thought, not practical but a thought none the less. Forcing myself to understand what I'm looking at vs having a crutch to rely on.

A good project, although practical is sensible. Cyrillic is put under the headset used SP. I could not understand what the ЗГЛ on CAPS LOCK. This is ЗАГЛАВНЫЕ (CAPITALS)   :))

If you want to read through the original thread about how these keysets were designed, it's here:

https://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/russian-elvish-sets-t17319.html

The modifiers were copied from Soviet keyboards for the ЕС-7978 and ЕС-1842 systems.

Caps Lock - ЗГЛ (Short for "ЗАГЛАВНЫЕ БУКВЫ" - "CAPITAL LETTERS")

Thank you for linking to that and also linking to the original thread. Knew I couldn't be the only one looking for a full on set in Russian. Now I don't have to design one and hope to find another 149 people that would be interested.
