[LONG] Spin mop thoughts ? UPDATE 3, Grease !!
« on: Sat, 29 September 2018, 09:03:24 »
Update 3::

DO NOT grease the base of the shaft.

The rotary motion is converted by a 1way bearing, and that needs friction to function.

If there's water or grease there, the 1way bearing slips, and you lose the Spin Drive.

ONLY grease the TOP of the oring seal chamber.

After insertion, wipe clean the shaft base with alcohol, because it would've undoubtedly picked up some oil during assembly.

Took Tp4 Half hour to clean up the 1way bearing after haphazardly greasing everything..

Update 2::

Really takes Home-Mopping to the Next lvl..

The primary way Mopping works is by "Dilution and TRANSPORT"

The dirt is Diluted on the ground,  Transported to the fibers in the mop, Finally Dilu/Transpo out through the rinse water.

However, Home-mopping has always had 1 critical flaw,  the Rinse and Wringing

Hand wringing is cumbersome and exhausting,  it's also not extremely effective, because you can only do it once or twice before it's too tiring..   All the while there's still plenty of dirt in the mop-fibers between wringings.

The Spin mop Greatly improves this portion of the process, it gets rid of up to 90% of the liquids in the mop vs hand wringing a paltry 40-60% (Yes, mop was weighed)

Hand wringing is also variably dependent on how strong and how fatigued you are. Not reliable.

The Effortless transport and dilution of dirt from Mop to bucket water is KEY..

This Lvl of performance wasn't possible at home unless one purchased those giant industrial mop buckets which arn't practical to store and push around..

A regular mop is equivalent to a garbage truck that picks up garbage until it's full, then continues to drive around. Not being able to pick up more garbage, merely redistributing garbage to the next stop.

The Spin Mop bucket, is an efficient emptying cycle for the truck , THUS, greatly increasing the efficiency of the clean and the totality of dirt Disposed..

In conclusion, The Spin Mop is Thoroughly Awesome..

Update::

Zomg..  Dis' is the Best Mop EVER..... I can't believe I ever mopped without one..

Never having to wring out a mop again, AND the spin wrings it out much dryer than could be accomplished by hand.. !!

The spin dry method is also gentle on the fiber, it does not damage it as quickly as hand wringing.. so the mop-head should last significantly longer..

Tp4 ordered both the O-cedar and the Mopnado..

Def' Recommend the O-cedar..

The spin mechanism is very robust. Gears are nylon and generously THICC..

The pedal has a good amount of plastic, Overall it doesn't take alot of pressure to engage the spin,  as long as you're not going crazy this should support years and years of service..

There is a bit of grease to keep the drive shaft waterproofed against the bucket, do note to keep it fresh once in a while.

If ya'll doin Hard-wood floors, this is great as it can get dryer, so there is hardly any leftover water to seep into the wood cracks.

Def put down a bath mat under the bucket over hardwood, because the bucket doesn't have any soft feet..

The Mopnado spins faster,  but the locking mechanism in the handle is crimped steel, and it's quite thin, Overtime with a little water and rust, this part is going to fail, and you will inevitably need a new handle.

The drive gear breaking is irrelevant, You can definitely permanently bolt mod this section..

But why bother,  the O-cedar will not have this problem..

Anyone got dat Spin mop ?

Think'n bout buying 1.

Guess gekha isn't mopping much..

Looking at the mopnado, and o cedar..

THe mopnado seems like it has some complaints about the drive pinion shattering.

The o cedar seems to have similar complaints, but the spin assembly is at least reparable because it's external.

So..  Looking at this picture..  seems to be the common complaint

Now.. I can cnc an aluminum widget to connect these 2 parts.. should be indestructible, assuming the geared ring doesn't itself shatter..

So, it's an issue fixable by Tp4.. but probably few other mop enthusiasts..

But of course, the O-cedar mop doesn't have this issue.. but it doesn't seem to spin as fast as the mopnado on utube..

ORrrrrr... Orrrrr... maybe it doesn't even need a widget replacement,  if I just drill a hole in the brand new pinion, then fill with epoxy, THEN bolt it, That should be many times stronger than stock..

Of course the concept of the (Bolt Mod) also greatly appeals to Tp4 as a Gekhr..

Hrrrrmm... seems the mopnado has a lock/ unlock step ,  that would be cumbersome to use..

Guess I'm decided on ordering the o-cedar mop then..

Six hours from 'thinking of buying one' to deciding which and two alternate ways to mod it - good work!

Have to say those plastic gears don't look built for speed, you'd do better CNC'ing yourself a whole new set of innards :P

If it lasts six times as long it's worth it...

Well looking at the mechanism I don't think it needs those gears to function at all..

The gear is actually only to engage the spin on the "Wetting" portion of the process.

That isn't really essential..

Bolted, those gears won't move,  but the spin dry aspect will still work..

You need to know a female and have enough charm to get her back to your place first. I don't think you need to worry about clean floors ;)

I use this setup at home:

Bucket: https://www.amazon.com/Rubbermaid-Commercial-WaveBrake-Side-Press-FG758088YEL/dp/B00006ICOK/
Handle: https://www.amazon.com/UNISAN-Spring-Metal-Handle-609/dp/B001E6A6IU
Head: https://www.amazon.com/Rubbermaid-Commercial-Products-FGT85206GR00-Microfiber/dp/B003XYZ2TE/

It works really well. It's pretty easy to keep our place clean when there are no children or dogs, just cats. Also, people don't regularly stop by either.

I purchased the bigger yellow bucket last year..  It worked well, but I just couldn't get it up and down stairs easily enough..

It was also a bit tricky to empty, because it's quite heavy..  ended up returning it.

Buhhh if ya'll lift br0s @ the gym,  The quality of the clean is excellent with the handle compress wringer on the yellow buckets.
