Am I seeing sectioning of that display?  As though it is 4 4x3 displays pasted together?  (because you can see the line where it might be pasted?)  I remember the horizontal lines on sony screens about 10 years ago.  Gateway swore those were supposed to be there, I couldn't fathom building a display that exposed internals ON the screen.

I like the "2000-plus pixels of gaming goodness".  =-D

Those "lines" on old trinitron monitors were required, that's how they got the screen to be flat http://computer.howstuffworks.com/question406.htm

To maintain equal spacing between the vertical wires, the aperture grill has two (one on displays 14 inches or smaller) horizontal damper wires, which hold the vertical wires in place. These wires cast a faint shadow on the phosphor layer that is not normally noticeable, but when you have an image or application with a light background displayed on your monitor, you can see them.

To get the full effect you'd probably have to sit close to this monitor.  I sit more than 2 feet away from my 20" widescreen.  NEC, BTW.

IBM also made a 2048x1536 version of the R50p...

And, Toshiba's coming out with an (inferior to the T221) 22.2" 3840x2560 panel.

The whole system needs to be overhauled before we can get decent high resolution displays. Microsoft needs to make the windows interface scalable and the W3C needs to be thrown into a lake and replaced by someone more competant (text sizes in pixels, what were they thinking!?)

Yeah, non-scalable UIs are the stumbling block.  I wonder why Apple did not take the initiative here.  Their laptops have consistently lagged in resolution.  And given OS X font rendering is supposedly the most "realistic" ie. blurry and sucky at the low DPI that typical screens are, they need all the pixels they can get to make it look good.
