A lot of what a fountain pen is will improve your handwriting, but you have to be willing to make a switch.

Oh there is nothing tying me to a normal biro or anything over a fountain pen. When I have some spare time I may read up on fountains a bit and see if it grabs enough of my attention to give a go. I already have too many hobbies

The  top to the A in kunstler,  it's supposed to be drawn towards the upper right at roughly 45* and the stem is not supposed to be straight.

It seems you're making very small letters, that's not a good way to start practicing, because you don't learn to control your arm which is what you'll need to learn for smoother transitions and flowing-like spacing..

You are currently drawing the letters with your fingers + wrist only, that's ok for ball point, but for fountain pens, you have limited angles, which require whole arm movement to complete certain shapes.

It's a Namiki Crane Tsuru Maki-e pen. I love that pen so much.

I missed today's pen show with CPT and it really affected me.

I wish you could have gone with me! It was a great time. I forgot to take any significant pictures though. Was too busy trying out every pen I could get my hands on :D. Might need to sell a keyboard or three to finance a Pelikan M605 or 140...

Yes, the purple is Mont Blanc lavender purple in the Maki e pen in top. And the bottom is the pelikan with diamine soft mint. Such flex.

I am very sure that typing has caused my handwriting to deteriorate.

See, when I was in school, my English handwriting was often praised. Teachers liked it for being strong, having a personality, yet very easy to read and understand.

My Chinese handwriting, heh, was severely criticized. It was readable but totally uncultured and lacking in refinement. (EG absolutely nothing like tp4's Chinese handwriting on the first page of this thread. I'd say TP's Chinese handwriting looks like a real Chinese person in some Jiangnan teahouse and mine like some Taoist hermit living on a mountain.)

But after two decades of typing....

My English handwriting is awful. Virtually like Chicken scratches. I wince whenever I write something. I can't even write as fast as I could when I was in school and rushing to churn out essays with maximum word count in the time limit.

But since I still hand write more Chinese than I type it, my Chinese handwriting has marginally improved. It actually looks more mature. And I can still write at the same speed, which is much faster than I can type in Chinese. (Sigh, I really show my age here!)

It will be interesting to hear what you people have to say about this.

Yup, I agree. The only reason my handwriting looks legible is because I love handwritten notes. I always take notes on paper because I retain the information better. My cursive has come a long way since I got into fountain pens. I learned Palmer in grade school but I hadn't really used it since then.

you can always interpret by the keyboard and i think it would only enhance the thread.....

While I do have two VP's, I prefer the Decimo -- sleeker and lighter I don't use them much tho -- the converter doesn't hold a days worth of ink and the carts aren't much better either unfortunately. :/
