Keyboards / Happy 45th birthday to the IBM PC and Model F/XT!
« Last post by sharktastica on Wed, 12 August 2026, 18:46:10 »
45 years ago today, on 12th August 1981, the computing landscape changed forever. IBM launched the Personal Computer, the vessel that kickstarted x86's popularity in computing at offices and homes alike. It was, of course, not a feat IBM achieved by itself - the IBM-compatible "clone" market is what helped keep the ecosystem prominent in the long run. But I like to think a big part of its success was its keyboard. Not the perfect layout as most may agree, but certainly a competent, well-built keyboard - the Model F/XT.

In just over day, I managed to scramble together something to celebrate the occasion. Barely in time for it to still be the 12th in my timezone... But nonetheless, a lot of pictures and commentry on the F/XT, where it came from, and what it became. Please enjoy!

(There are definitely things I could've added and improved on, but it will do. NEVER leave things last minute, people...)

Tp4 be eatn' soy sawz 2day during sushr.

Nnnnnd.  As it turns out, up to 50% of all sawz poured by mankind gets thrown out uneaten.

The net carbon cost to Wasted SoySawz alone, is equivalent to the emissions of 2 million cars annually.

Not askn' y'all to chug the condiments,  but at least be conscious and use less of it.

Hrrrm..

Realistically, charging at 1C is probably the max that you should do on these bats.

They discharge at 1-1.5C during flight.

Could stick it on a 30w charger, which will charge at .86C,   Hard to find a 20w charger, because they typically don't have the right 15v mode.

Tp4 running active cooling when charging, just stick it ontop the Air purifier, no dust, and high cfm.

They DO SELL a triple pack charger that will do all packs @ 1C, it uses 20v 5amp, so you need a 100w supply.

Mmmm... That's like $34 + $54,  IDK,  doesn't seem worth it,  and kinda ifffffy on 3rd party chargers, a trust issue, since the damn drone is already WAYYYyyyy overpriced due to tariffs'n'such.

Making Stuff Together! / Software for designing keycaps?
« Last post by Dr.Chipotle on Wed, 12 August 2026, 14:05:33 »
I was wondering what software people use to design their key caps? I was interested in making my own after seeing a keyboard with a specific look and wanted to purchase the key caps themselves. Sadly they don' sell the caps by themselves so I decided I would try to make my own. However googling stuff I could not find a definitive answer or a "leader" in what to use to design them.

I wonder how they gonna control/change force. Maybe it could be adjustable?! That would be something.
One day I want heavy linear, 80g, next week, light 55g ...
