I like the idea, but not really digging the novelties. What is the ghost a reference to?
The Pac-Man ghosts, if I'm not miskaten.
I quite like the set, myself, but I can see other's points about the colours now that they mention it (but I liked them originally and still do for the most part).
In terms of mods, I'd love to see more inspired by DOS or Unix to fit the old cyperpunk aesthetic from the 80's and 90's. Maybe like a command prompt style one, or even some urban/punk styled things (maybe like spraypaint aesthetic and so on). I do agree with others that it would be nice to have some original art for the deskmat, as it may cause you a copyright issue down the road, so best to play it safe!
It's great to see that you're interested in getting feedback, and I really like the direction of the set so far. Hope to see it happen in whatever final form it takes! Good luck!

Is that black for the modifiers, or just 2 shades of green on top of each other? The black / green combo looks awesome, especially the darker shade of green you have there, so find it odd to have that contrast of lighter / darker green together (unless that is an effect from rendering which doesn't have a pure black color). Same thing with the alphas. Looking at the darker green ESC key, then next to it the lighter green is odd. Have you considered having an alternate alpha kit with black keycaps / green legends / purple sublegends?

Have you considered having an alternate alpha kit with inverted black / green colors? i.e. green letters, black keycap. Can have the purple sub-legend either way. I like the combination of the modifiers' black / green contrast, so having that with alphas as an alternate kit for variation would be awesome. Personally, I'm loving the modifier icons (not sure if anyone has asked for text modifiers, but these look awesome). What I do find a bit odd is the use of 2 shades of green. In my opinion, should be uniform (the darker green completely), but that is my take. Please provide support for 40s as well :)

Haha sorry but I heavily edited my last post while you replied. I appreciate the response though. Mind clarifying if the modifiers is green on green, or is that black on green? Since you didn't have black in the colors there, wasn't sure if you're just playing with the idea of multiple shades of green mostly, and I'm just absurdly colorblind.

Building on this, have you considered a purple key for the escape/enter key, a la the arrow keys? That may also allow you to go with a brighter green for the alphas since then they'll be a different colour altogether.

I think it would be better to keep kits in a way that you would place them on keyboard, the way these are shown right now is hard to catch what keycaps are in each kit and if there are some compability issues.

The alpha 1 set is exactly what I was thinking for the alphas. I'd totally be down with that set.
For the text mods: I'm a fan of ditching the white text altogether and just use green text on black.
I'm wondering if others would want Purple and Green mods for tab/caps/shift/control/win/alt. Not sure I'd actually buy this but I'm wondering if people want the option. I'm fairly certain I'd still go green on black for the entire set with a few mods like the keyboard/escape/enter for alt colors.
Wondering if an all purple or all green space bar could be added to the space bar pack.
Not a fan of the hands on the desk mat.

Initially the Hangul sublegends were there to serve as a template while I mocked up the other requested languages, and as my understanding of KAT MOQ works it wouldn't hurt to add Katakana and Cyrillic as well, it's why I left room in the IC form to write in the kits you wanted to see made that i hadn't already.
Also thank you everyone for your support I'm so happy you guys like what I'm making I've been talking to Keyreative and they've mentioned Glow in the Dark printing so I'm going to play around with that idea a little more as well. Still working on getting renders done. I'm a little out of my depth but I have the files and I'm learning. If anyone has any recomendations of anyone that can take commisions on rendering for KAT I'd love to work with them. Thanks!

missed the IC form, thanks for pointing out there is one. i would absolutely love multiple languages and hope enough people fill out the IC support and request hiragana, katakana and cyrillic since there's no harm indeed due to KAT MOQ's flexibility. i'd really like japanese sublegends with my laughing man novelties.

KAT Atlantis is running now (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=104912.0) and has a Hangul-only kit. I haven't seen a KAT set with a dual-legend Hangul kit, though.

I'll be updating the main post this weekend but I'll do both and then run a poll to see which is more popular as there has to be a certain point i stop adding kits haha.

Exactly this! I'd much rather design for as many people as possible, gauge interest and produce what is wanted. What makes a larger base kit preferable to you over the model of alphas + mods to cover your layout? @ref

R5 Delete, Home, End, PgUp, PgDn are missing from the numpad kit. These keys are needed to support 1800, CP, 96-key and similar layouts.

Thank you for such detailed response, I'm putting what probably will be the final kits together at the moment, theres deffintely some of what you've been asking for. I wont be adding any new colours at this point i'm pretty set of them but i'm open to adding more extras in purple as alternates but i resisted as much as possible as it takes away from the overall look i'm trying to acheive. I look forward to seeing what you think.

Depending on how these samples are yes that’s the plan although it shouldn’t affect the colour Of the alphas when they aren’t charged.

This set looks really nice. If it runs late enough in the year I'll be in for sure, circumstances permitting, for Dayglow and Icon 40s/Ortho.
I want to add that the novelties kit will pretty much be a bust for most 40s users (both ortho and staggered) because it doesn't have any 1u keys in R1, R2, or R3 or 1.5u keys in R1. Some 40s boards do use a 6.25 space, that can also use 2 of the R1 novelties, but there's a lot of 40s boards out there that don't use anything bigger than 1.75u with the exception of 2u, 2.25u, and 2.75u spacebars.
Speaking of space bars, some 1.5u spacebars in the 40s kit would be nice for boards like Corne and it's many offshoots, and some other ergo boards. I know that's kind of a niche thing though.

That's great, thanks! And I understand how difficult it can be to keep track of everything needed to cover as many boards as possible. I've seen quite a few discussions for different keycap sets on the 40s discord about it.
Edit: after looking at the Novelties kit a little more, and my previous comment about it, it doesn't include any 1u novelties for row 4 either. So a couple of 1u novelties for rows 2, 3, and 4 would be great as well. If not, no worries, as it'll save me like twenty-something dollars...

for Ergo, see https://i.imgur.com/PfCcaXR.png the KAT Atlantis Ergo set. It has 1.5u R1 x2 for the outer columns. In addition to Ergodox which needs 1u. This will support boards like Sol2. Adding 1.25 R1 x2 would also help for those using 1.25u outer columns.
I used that layout he build the template for the ergo kit so hopefully everything’s covered I’ll be updating the post later today with the additional kits.

I think legends that big is not pretty

Love the subtle used of icons in the text modifiers, this is how it should be in all cases imo.
+1 on having some novelties love for compact boards
+1 on a multiple language rain fall deskmat without the horse on the side (just the text rain on it)

I had planned on doing a little extra bug key in a mixed row one for each set as an extra but glitched text would be cool instead, I'm going to have a play with the idea.

The UK ISO pack appears to only contain nightmode versions of the R4 alphas, will these contain dayglow versions too?
That was initially the plan as the Dayglow pack didn't seem sd popular but from the overwhelming popularity of the dayglow kit in the new form, i'll be including Green versions of both the UK and International kits.

Valid point, I'm gonna have a think about kitting to finialise it this week, the Joy of Keyreative is no MOQ on individual kits so the only thing stopping me making infinite kits for each layout is how vendors would feel about it, and I don't like the idea of having to play a choose your own adventure game just to get a set in your basket. It's not a complaint I've heard before but one I can certainly sympathise with. I'm just happy Keyreative kits allow me to cover my 40 without the need for a massive base kit.

Because GMK set a bad trend for this and people are just copying it.
I think for SP it's a safer bet to work towards kit MOQ, but for KAT, I agree, there's no reason. Personally I'm holding off buying more KAT until I have a set in my hands, but I'm always vocal about it when I'm interested in the set.

I'm also in this boat. There's way too many KAT sets going on sale and Keyreative don't have a proven track record of making KAT sets at this point.

Yeah, that font choice is a bit too round and it looks more dense then the hangul one.100% agree, this is why I haven't posted it to the main post yet, I did this design before making the IC to start with.

It just sucks KAT sets take forever to be produced. This would be a nice set on my upcoming EVA canoe.
I'm hoping to mitigate as much of that as possible sampling before production to ensure the fastest possible turn around. I've already got round one samples enroute.

Yep! ^[ in caret notation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caret_notation) stands for the ASCII control character ESC and the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+[, which is how Esc used to be input on old terminal systems before separate Esc keys existed. In fact, the shortcut still works today on macOS and Linux in certain programs (most notably, their terminal emulators). I think it'd be a cool little reference to have that as an Esc novelty.

At least there's some R3 1u novelties in there now. The text kits kind of get shafted on the cooler graphical novelties though, since there's no separate novelties kit.
As far as the space bars go.. people that get the regular (larger than 40s) kits now get five spacebars when they purchase an alpha kit plus a mod kit, six if getting one of the sublegend alpha kits? That seems quite excessive. At least that doesn't affect the 40s kits. Swinging that back around to 40s spacebars though, there's still no double 1.5u spacebars anywhere. Not even a single 1.5u space, including the spacebar kit. Anyone that owns a Corne/Lily58/Atreus or something similar would have to use other regular 1.5u caps for the spacebars, or use the 1u spacebars instead. Neither of which is anywhere near as comfortable.
No homing keys for the Colevrak kits is an odd choice too. Ergo kits didn't make the cut?
I was really excited about this set in the beginning because the theme and colors are something that resonate with me, but I think I'll have to bail on it. I've been on the fence about KAT Space Cadet for the last 3 weeks, but being able to cover a Corne or similar split board properly, and also being able to move it to a regular ortho board, for only $55 seems like the better choice for me personally. I really wanted to see if you could make a small Workman compat kit too, as it would be cool to have a set that actually has compat for it. That would have only been an additional 12 key kit on it's own to get with the regular alpha kit, or only a 1 extra key kit if also getting the the Colevrak kit too - a R1 'L'. Still, good luck with the group buy on this - the theme and colors are amazing!

If you take another look at the first page you should notice a few changes that address almost all of what you've mentioned. Yes this probably will end up being one of the more expensive KAT Sets I'm aware of that the project was ambitios to start with with almost doubles of every kit I've tried to include as many boards as possible, while remaining sensible with the total amount of kits, each is packaged in a seperate box and having 20 sku's per set to deal with I can only imagine is way more stress than they deserve without adding even more. I really wanted to see if you could make a small Workman compat kit too, as it would be cool to have a set that actually has compat for it. That would have only been an additional 12 key kit on it's own to get with the regular alpha kit, or only a 1 extra key kit if also getting the the Colevrak kit too - a R1 'L'. Still, good luck with the group buy on this - the theme and colors are amazing!

Wow, I could have sworn that I was looking at the first page when I was typing that out. Unless you just edited those changes in a little while ago. Maybe I wasn't though. I could have been looking at the previous page and not even realized that there were changes in the main post.
Workman layout would only add an L key to R1 on the Colevrak kit. I've seen some kits that include it labeled as Colevrak+. This is workman layout:

It's not anywhere near as popular as the main three. It uses most of the same key locations as Colemak and Dvorak though. Speaking of the Colemak kit I just remembered that I wanted to ask something. Why are there two 'M' keys on R1? There's already an M on R1 in the alphas kit, so at most you'd need one. And you'd only really need to include an M there if you were going for a complete Colevrak kit, which doesn't seem to be the case because it's missing only five keys (P, S, V, X, Z) to be a completely independent Colemak/Dvorak kit.
I've been looking at other layouts to use other than qwerty just because it's so inefficient and there's more finger movement than there needs to be. I'm either going to attempt Workman or Colemak mod-DH. Workman compat isn't a huge deal though, because I can just use blanks for the time being while learning on it. If I end up liking it and want to stick with it then KAT Explosion will have Workman compat in their Colevrak+ kit. Or I could mess with everyone that uses my PC besides me and leave qwerty alphas on it with my board set to another layout and watch the ensuing hilarity.
Well, now with pretty much everything I brought up being addressed (especially 1.5u spacebars) I'm definitely reconsidering jumping ship/getting Space Cadet. :)) This just looks too good. I guess I'll see how my wallet likes the massive kits when the time comes. If my wallet hates me when the GB comes around and I do end up going with a mashup I'll be sure to post some pictures.

Oh my i've just clocked what's gone wrong thats r1: bnm are already included in the Alpha kits I'm not sure how they reverted in the Colevrak kits, I had them copied from Atlantis. Scott from the r/MK Discord has graciously helped me out with my Japanese translations he's also helped me fix a few errors in my Katakana and Hiragana kits and (rightly) pointed out the font looked like it was for preschoolers and simultaniasly helped me find this awesome updated cyberpunk looking face. Also corrected my less than agresive japanese Wake up... bar to have better translation and translated the whole text for the deskmat so a huge shout out to Scott for making this happen <3

All keys are made of GiD plastic and I'll have kitting renders and more acurate displays of the intended GiD effects when i have my next batch of samples in hand. But anywhere white is raw GiD, Green should glow quite bright when fully charged and the purple should glow a little.

I did consider breaking up the international kit, or doing north south french to start with but I'm happy with the 20 kits i have listed now uk iso I think is the only exeption i've made and I'll be honest selfishly because i'm british. The desk mat is in Korean, but there are Japanese subs.. if the desk mat could match the keycap subs that would be nice..
The mat will come in Korean/Japanese I'm not doing a cyrillic version for multiple reasons the main one being demand. Hangul/Katakana/Hiragana all have 4/5 times as much interest as cyrillic, I'm not removing the alpha set but there's not as much demand to warrent the extras.

Forgive me if i missed it, but i believe there to be an error in the Cyrillic legend. Comma should be shared with Б(CAPS) б (lower), and period should be shared with ю. Seems you have щ assigned twice. Im new to the hobby and just beginning learning Russian, so if I'm incorrect, please disregard.

Either way this seems like a possible trend setter... Maybe even new technology developed on the manufacturing side for this to be possible. I searched for previous glow sets and found GLOW SA but it looks like it never got to production. Anybody else know of previous sets like this or expertise in GID plastics or just KAT manufacturing in general?
Pro tip: Glow in the dark stuff (or any fluorescent materials) works REALLY WELL if you have any bright pure BLUE light sources. I know blacklights/UV lights work great too but blue lights are even better in my experience. I learned this from my days as an aspiring yoyo player... the best visibility for neon yellow yoyo string was in the blue light from some blue LED party bulbs i bought at home depot - it just pops the color like crazy, way brighter than UV. I'm not sure it's mentioned anywhere in the post- I understand these are glow-in-the-dark, are they made of PBT plastic like most KAT sets but with the phosphorescent compound mixed in? Not ABS I assume?
Correct, this is PBT, not ABS, as dye sublimation isn't possible on ABS, and all KAT sets are PBT.

All caps are made of a Glow in the dark plastic base and Reverse dye sublimated with either one, or 3 dyes the off white areas of the legends represent the Raw uncharged Glow in the Dark plastic.

I know that this might have been asked before, but are the sub legends on the dual language keys also glow in the dark? It will be 1.1mm of PBT plastic they're not designed as shine through but you will be able to charge the underside of the cap with inboard leds, just that i wasn't trying to show that here.This set looks pretty awesome. the GMMK is an awesome board, Glorious are an amazing company that make great products.
To cover the gmmk60% You would need any one of the (Alpha) kits, you are correct they can and are mostly used as stylised alternates you don't need to speak the language to use them. I personally don't speak any of the languages. and you will need either the Text Mods or Icon Mods depending on your preference. if you click the link to the google form in the first post you can scroll to the bottom and just add you email and hit enter and I'll send you a personalised email when i launch alternatively you can keep up on discord following the link here: https://discord.gg/jpDm8p

While explaining my suggestions just now, I noticed some problems in the UK ISO kit.Hey, thank you for the Kata tip even my tranlator friend didn't catch that one. The UK iso kit was fixed a while back, I'm still awaiting my kitting renders and pricing to update the main post properly which should hopefully be any day now! The R4 key should not be changed. There needs to be a R4 ー key in order to support JIS layouts.

The GiD is a fun little touch, but personally, I fear it might be too much on the full green alphas. I might like it more without it.
That said, I might forgo the full green caps, which I think look super awesome, but the nightmode set looks really well done too. Might have to get both just because.
I do like how the double legend ones look better though. Is there a specific reason the Nightmode caps are in white fonts instead of the green?
Just asking beforehand, does the GiD dye sub cost extra? I guess I'll know a week from now on the stores, but still... And I do have some concerns with that rubbing off / wearing out over time.
I'm also feeling kind of forced to pickup more than one set here, because the Beta for instance doesn't have green space, but only dayglow does. The renders with a green bar and non-dayglow alphas look like an awesome combination. This set like many others kind of feel like you are required to go all in with it. Which I'm probably going to, but just saying. Are there production requirements as to why the kits are like this?
Thanks for running the groupbuy, I'll be happily ordering the 1st, bar some excessive costs for the kits.

I felt it's a mistake, there are 3 1u GUI (code/super) key (where usually you have 2 in a kit), one of them is next to 1.75u shift, which is usually where the 1u FN key is

Same, was also hoping for a R3 1u pipe key in the ortho kit. It's the only key that I'm missing for a 12 column split/ortho. Putting the [{ key there just doesn't feel right if there's no closing bracket. It's probably going to be a second backspace then.

Printed = dye sublimated. And keyreative offers "reverse dye sub" which means you pick a base material, that only shows through the legends on the cap. And you sublimate a different colour over the rest of it. That is why these can be glow in the dark in the first place.
PBT is always "printed" using dye sub. Any reasonable quality ones anyway. You can pretty much this yourself using laserprinter toner and heat. It last pretty much forever, since the material is permanently stained with it. Which is why you cannot do dark caps with (very) light colours in PBT without going double shot. Unless you reverse the proces and do reverse dye sub. I learned this from Minterly's KAT eternal set which uses the same method from keyreative.
So no need to worry, these aren't 3D printed or something... (Yeah... That kind of sucks, both FDM and Resin, but metal "printed" caps can be nice)
