a 1.25:1 ratio

This is what I use.

Stove top, it's 2:1, alot of water boil off.

For rice cookers, it's 1:1 to 1.3:1

Keyboards / Re: Software like autohotkey + crypto software wallets = paranoia
« Last post by annyeed on Thu, 16 May 2024, 15:42:17 »
I'm not worried that the software or the scripts themselves would be malicious in terms of trying to get into wallets per se. And I say per se because being worried about literally everything is always the safest of course.

But as Im understanding in order for Karabiner to work on your Mac, you have to basically allow it to act like a keylogger.
And I think the real question is, is permitting one software to log your keyboard activity something that malware could escalate into permissions for keylogging other software in this case a software wallet? Or, would it be just as hard for malware to try and hack the wallet if you had permissions for Karabiner or not?

Personally, I use KeePass with a yubi key token for some auto login functions.    I basically open the keepass db with an auto lock after x minutes.   I have mapped alt-cntrl-? key combo to allow auto type credentials into web pages and other portals.   It works for my use cases.   I use AutoHotKey for controlling iTunes… but that is probably a different topic.  Also, I am Windows user.
That could answer my question if form what you say yubi key allows to bypass pressing keys and therefore keylogging.
AHK watches every keystroke to see if it needs to intercept and change it to something else - it could log anything.  On the other hand it's open source and very well known so if it did anything dodgy someone would have noticed.

Karabiner Elements is also open source, not as well known as it's for Mac but I'd still say it's big enough to be trustworthy.

Saving passwords into scripts (or however Karabiner works) probably means saving them in plain text somewhere on your computer - that is not a good idea.
Agreed not a good idea. I personally save passwords in bitwarden. Except my wallet stuff, I just write down. So it's not necessarily in the storing, or even Karabiner logging something it shouldn't. More the permissions for logging itself.

I was pretty set on getting QMK for the exact reason that Volny said; once you're paranoid there's no saving you. While Im still open to a suggestion that
Also, QMK is going to be enough for now I think. Just have my arrow keys as jkli and numpad around homerow would be grand. But I would love to not have to rely on QMK compatible keyboards.

Anyways Im starting to ramble. But you get my point by now I guess.

Risk is always and everywhere. You may be paranoid, but in our world you can never be too careful (check everything).

I got my Ultra Compact F104 today and WOW, what a beast! It's so heavy and well-built. Assembly (i.e., putting in the stabilizer inserts and keys) was straightforward, although I read the entire how-to guide on the Model F website several times and watched the entire setup video. I had a few stabilized keys that needed some attention and my numpad enter was spamming keystrokes until I re-seated the spring, but otherwise I didn't have any major issues.

I ended up floss-modding mine. I intended to try it out sans floss first, but from the moment I got the spacebar installed, I knew I couldn't handle it. The ping is just so intense! I don't like the pinging on my Model M, and this seems about twice as bad. However, with the floss mod, I like the sound. I don't think it's amazing sounding like some of my Alps keyboards, but the click sound is very clean and cool sounding. It definitely sounds uber-mechanical.

So far, the key feel isn't blowing me away, but I felt the same way about genuine Topre switches when I first tried them and after a few days, they became my favorite. I like the very clean tactility of the Model F keys, but the weighting is a bit light for my taste. I prefer the weight of the Model M's switches. However, I will have a more well-formed opinion after a few days typing with this keyboard.

Overall I'm kind of astonished that I was able to buy a brand-new Model F in a never before seen form factor. I think the look of the Ultra Compact F104 is awesome, and I think it's amazing that Ellipse was able to pull this all off. I always wanted to try out a Model F, and several years ago, I missed out on a good deal on an F122, but I really don't like any of the original layouts. This is a dream come true and I am seriously considering one of the Classic 104 or 122 key layouts in the future. Major, major props to Ellipse to bringing this project to fruition!

I got mine in black with grey keys. Here are some pictures:

What am I missing out on using a pot to cook my rice? Rince, 2 cups water, 1 cup rice, add salt, bring to simmer, cover for 15 min, off heat for 5 minutes, fluff and serve. What would a rice cooker change if I already enjoy the texture of my rice?

The main thing I like about mine is having access to warm rice all day. You can make some in the morning, and if you are puttering around the house all day, it keeps it moist and fluffy so you don't need to reheat. Also, just generally more automatic. Because it has internal sensors, I just fill it and walk away until I hear it play Greensleeves. No stirring, no lids, no drips, no overboil.

2:1 ratio for rice is just wrong, idk where this lie perpetuated from. WAY too much water with a 2:1
I will concede maybe a ricemaker locks in more moisture, but I did a lot of experimenting before settling on a 1.25:1 ratio, and cannot imaging 3/4 cup is evaporating away every time

This week I spent a lot of time coordinating the small details of the board. Hardware, tools, cables, and daughterboards have all been finalized and are ready to order. Hoping to have proto v2 in hand in the coming weeks! Thank you everyone for your support on this project, and especially to those who are voting and contributing ideas in Discord.
